Good quality wooden box – very sturdy.
The instructions are very vague and appear to be generic – covering different versions of camera
It appears to be a collection of sub-components thrown together as a bundle. As a consequence, you receive lots of cables, chargers, leads and adapters that you don’t require.
We set the equipment up reasonably well but you do need a good WFI signal to do this. The bird box wouldn’t work in our original intended position because the WIFI isn’t strong enough at that end of the garden. Working OK now it’s closer to the house. Nothing has moved in yet. I’m considering adding a small perch in front of the entry hole to encourage some more interest.
This was bought as a Christmas gift for my husband. Time constraints and inclement weather have prevented it’s installation thus far, therefore I am unable to give a more comprehensive review at this time. All parts appear to be substantial and good quality and we are looking forward to seeing it working.
All the parts appear to be of good quality and well made, the bird box is of very solid construction and should last well. Camera was easy to set up with the app (The mobile app producing a QR-Code for the camera to scan to connect to wifi is a great touch) and the picture quality is good. Slightly odd that it shows in app as a security camera, but I guess it’s repurposed technology and the name doesn’t make any difference.
However while each part appears to be good on it’s own the package as a whole has issues The box is designed for a side mounted camera and has pre drilled holes for the supplied fixing bolt. The camera has a side mounting thread to take said bolt and it should be as simple as screwing it in place Except the usb-c socket for the power in to the camera sits next to the thread and if you screw the camera into place the side of it sits flush with the inside of the bird box and completely block the usb-c port There is no way at all you can use the power cable (A must have) and the side fixing mount at the same time.
*Edit: Ok, so it turns out the bigger issue is with the instructions, while one set shows to use the side mount to fix the camera there is a second set of instructions and an L bracket in the kit, the bracket bolts to the side and then the camera to the bracket… It’s actually a pretty good solution to the issue and the bracket even has spurs on the back to make sure it doesn’t twist once screwed into place by the single bolt. I should probably have realised it sooner, but given that there’s a fair amount of extra parts (Mains line power cable for the camera and several extensions/adaptors that aren’t needed) the bracket got lost with the other “unlisted” extras. It feels very much like a collection of parts rather than a unified product, but the end result appears to be pretty good.
