I love these wooden toys as they look so great and last forever. This is no exception a lovely looking and very colourful little set. Even if the youngster is to young to play with the wooden set at the moment it looks great in their room. Excellent.
A really well made wooden car.
It’s well illustrated with field and pond scenes around the edge and on the roof which fits in well to the farm theme.
Around the sides are cut out shapes for the wooden animals to slot through. The animals are colourful with cute faces and both sides of the animal are painted.
The top part acts as a lid for storage as well as having cut out holes which vary in diameter. There are vegetables with cute faces that fit into their appropriate hole as well as circles for the little worms around the edge. The worms have little magnets on the top of them. The wooden kingfisher also has a magnet on its beak to pick the worms with – my 2 year old spends ages playing with the kingfisher and the worms – such a simple but fun activity.
This would make a great gift and I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND
This is a gorgeous, chunky wooden toy for little hands and fingers to play with and explore. Everything is made of solid, chunky wood, painted in colourful, cute, characterful decoration.
The toy consists of a cart on wheels, so you can push or pull it along, though to pull it you’d have to tie a string to it, I guess.
The lid lifts off the cart and all the various pieces are stored inside. The lid is painted to look like a field with a pond at one end and has a number of different-sized holes in it. The sides of the car has different-shaped cutouts in all four sides.
The pieces inside, all shaped and colourfully painted blocks of wood, fall into two categories. Some are shaped like a variety of farm animals, there’s also a tractor with a farmer in, and each of these has a corresponding cutout in the sides of the cart, so little one can match them up and push the animal through the hole into the cart. Matching the shapes is a bit trickier than doing it with geometric shapes like in a lot of other push-through, shape-sorting toys, so the toddler might need some support with this, to start with. But they’re always just fun little animal characters to play with.
The other category of pieces are the ones that fit like pegs into the holes in the lid of the box. There’s two frogs that fit into the holes in the pond and a variety of vegetables (including a peanut and what I think must be a bamboo) that fit into the larger holes in the field. The vegetable pieces have leaves of green felt set into the wood.
There are also six little worms that fit into the small holes down both sides of the field. These worms have smiley faces and a little metal cap on their heads/noses. One of the animal characters among the other pieces is a woodpecker which has a small magnet set into the end of its beak. So the child can ‘fly’ the woodpecker down into the field and use the magnet on its beak to pick up the worms and pull them out of the holes. Very cute; like the fishing games I remember from when I was a kid.
As you can see in my video, I discovered that when the worms are in place, it’s harder to push the animals through the holes because the worms partially block these holes! So you’ll have to do one thing or the other at time.
But this lovely cart has so many different things for little ones to play with, discover and enjoy, it will give hours of fun. And I always think wooden toys have that extra touch of class, don’t you? It’s really charming, well-made and fun.
And, when you’ve finished playing with it, all the little pieces fit back into the cart, with the lid on, for compact and tidy storage.
