Wer wie wir als Familie gern Campen geht oder sich im Urlaub abseits des Massentourismus bewegt, nimmt gern in Kauf, dass es an diesen Orten neben wenig Menschen auch wenig Internetempfang gibt. Doch mit dem NETGEAR Nighthawk MR6150 ist nun Schluss mit diesem Clich.
EMPFANGSQUALITT
Die kleine Box schafft es tatschlich auch in abgelegenen Gebieten eine gute Verbindung zu bekommen. In Verbindung mit einer externen Antenne ist der Empfang sogar deutlich besser als mit den Handys. Auerdem ist die Verbindung – wenn sie einmal steht – sehr stabil, insbesondere dann, wenn man den Router an Ort und Stelle stehen lsst und ihn beispielsweise nicht im Auto oder Zug mitfhrt.
MULTIKONNEKTIVITT
Ein groer Vorteil dieses Routers ist die Anschlussfhigkeit von bis zu 32 Gerte. Damit kann man ohne Probleme ein ganzes Ferienlager oder eine Ferienwohnung mit mehreren Familien versorgen.
REICHWEITE
Die Reichweite hngt davon ab, ob man den Router im Akkubetrieb oder mit direkter Stromversorgung laufen lsst. Mit einem Akku sind es 45 QM, was nicht viel, aber durchaus ausreichend im Outdoor-Bereich ist. Im Stromnetz angeschlossen sind es sogar 90 QM, womit ein Campingplatz oder eine FeWo auf jeden Fall abgedeckt werden knnen.
AKKULAUFZEIT
Die Akkulaufzeit betrgt 13 Stunden +/-. Hier empfiehlt sich die Kombi mit einem Solarpanel, um die Laufzeit zu verlngern. 13 Stunden sind ok, 24 Stunden wren aber besser.
FAZIT:
NETGEAR steht fr eine zuverlssige Qualitt in Sachen Datenverbindung und das spiegelt sich in diesem Router wider. Die Qualitt hinsichtlich Geschwindigkeit, Stabilitt und Bandbreite stehen auer Konkurrenz. Die Einrichtung ist ein Kinderspiel und mit diesem Router stehen einem ganz neue Mglichkeiten in Sachen Workation oder Remote-Arbeiten zur Verfgung. Klar – der Preis ist happig und man muss es eher als eine Investition in die eigene Flexibilitt ansehen. Aber fr den Preis hat man letztlich auch erstmal keine Sorgen in Sachen Netzversorgung. Unterm Strich also 5 Sterne und eine klare Kaufempfehlung.

Der grte Nachteil des Netgear Nighthawk M6 ist allerdings sein Preis. In Anbetracht der gebotenen Leistung und Funktionen scheint das Preis-Leistungs-Verhltnis nicht optimal zu sein.
Fazit: Trotz des hohen Preises bietet der Netgear Nighthawk M6 5G Router eine beeindruckende Performance und Flexibilitt fr Anwender, die auf der Suche nach einer leistungsstarken, mobilen Internetlsung sind. Die hohen Kosten knnten jedoch fr manche potenzielle Kufer ein Hindernis darstellen.

Wir testeten den 5G Router, Nighthawk M6 (MR6150), der Marke NETGEAR.
Zwei Grnde veranlaten uns zu diesem Test. Zum einen unsere Liebe zum Camping und zum anderen die sehr schlechte Internetanbindung bei uns auf dem Land.
Als Zugang nutzte ich die SIM aus einem laufenden Datenvertrag, mit der wir zuvor einen lteren mobilen 4G- Router betrieben haben.
Zuvor testete ich smtliche Bandbreiten der Gerte in unserem Zuhause.
Der Festanschluss bot 15 kb Download ber DSL und unsere Mobilgerte empfingen zwischen EDGE und gar nichts, weil die Sendemasten nicht bis in Grenznhe ausgebaut sind.
An dieser Situation konnten wir in der Vergangenheit nur etwas nderung bewirken, wenn wir zustzlich den alten 4G Router nutzten.
Daher waren wir sehr auf das Ergebnis des Testes, mit dem Nighthawk M6 gespannt.

Aber genug der nchternen Daten.
Vor der Nutzung steht die Installation. An dieser Stelle ein Hinweis. Unter dem Akku befindet sich der Aufkleber mit allen wichtigen Informationen, inkl. dem Passwort des Administrators.
Sicherlich etwas, dass man spter ndern mchte. Aber zunchst ist es nicht ausgeschlossen, dass man whrend der Installation doch erst einmal eine Rckstellung auf den Auslieferungszustand wnscht und dann natrlich auch das ursprngliche Adminpasswort bentigt. Daher rate ich dazu, sich einmal ein Foto von diesem Informationsschild zu machen, dass man nach erfolgreicher Installation wieder lschen kann.
Ansonsten geht es Ihnen mglicherweise wie mir, dass sie die Stromversorgung trennen mssen. Das Gert herunterfahren, den Deckel ffnen und den Akku entnehmen, um an das bentigte Passwort zu kommen.;)
Jetzt klingt es, als sei die Installation schwierig.
Nein, sie ist sehr einfach. Aber meine groben Fingerspitzen sind einfach nicht fr kleine Buchstaben auf einem Touchscreen geschaffen und bei mir knnen Sie jede Wette halten, dass ich bestimmt bei sehr langen und komplexen Kombinationen mindestens einen Buchstaben falsch erwische. So auch hier, bei der SIM Kennung.
Folge, keine Verbindung. Letztlich stellte ich das Gert auf Werkseinstellungen und gab alles erneut unter Beobachtung” meiner Frau ein. Diesmal funktionierte es und ich konnte es kaum glauben, welche Erweiterung an Bandbreite es mit sich brachte.
Seit wir hier wohnen, leben wir mit einer Unterversorgung der Bandbreite.
Ich kann nicht sagen, woher der Nighthawk die Verbindung hernimmt, aber wir hatten von einem Augenblick auf den anderen eine Versorgung, als befnden wir uns in der Innenstadt eines groen Ortes.
Am liebsten mchte ich das Gert gar nicht mehr ausschalten. Aber leider haben wir nur monatliche 50 GB Datenvolumen auf der SIM und da mchten wir sicher sein, dass wir wenigstens im Notfall eine Verbindung in die weite Welt” haben.
ABSOLUTE CAMPEREMPFEHLUNG
Ja, werden jetzt einige Camperfreunde sagen, die auch ausgiebige Wanderungen ohne jede Stromversorgung unternehmen, nur 13 Stunden Akkulaufzeit hilft uns aber nichts in der Wildnis.
Hier darf ich vielleicht meine Erfahrung mit Solartechnik und Akkuversorgung weitergeben.
Der Stromversorgung liegt zwar ein Netzstecker bei, ber den man das USB-A auf USB-C Kabel mit Strom speist, aber diese Speisung erfolgt laut Stecker mit max. 9.0 Volt bei 1.8 Ampere.
Leistung, die viele kleine solarversorgte Akkus ebenfalls leisten.
Somit kann man die Nutzung nahezu unendlich ausdehnen, wenn man den Akku ber ein Ladegert mit Solarversorgung zustzlich speist.
Mit unserem Wohnwagen knnen wir tagelang autark stehen und alle wichtigen Gerte mit ausreichend Strom versorgen.
Wer am Landstrom angeschlossen ist, der macht sich hierber ohnehin wenig Gedanken.
Aus meinem Blickwinkel sind 13 Stunden unabhngige Akkulaufzeit gute Werte, bei einem Gert, dessen Leistungsdurchsatz nicht unterschtzt werden darf.
An dieser Stelle mein zweiter Hinweis. Wenn Si sich fr diesen mobilen Router entscheiden, sollten sie direkt den Kauf der passenden Antenne in Betracht ziehen. Denn nach unserer Erfahrung kommen wir Camper immer wieder in Gebiete, die nur sehr schwache Anbindungen bieten.
Zur Verwaltung des Routers gibt es neben dem Display, auch eine App. Als moderner Mensch, mit sehr viel Smart Home” Technik habe ich mir eine gewisse Hornhaut angewhnt, wenn es um die Datensensibilitt meines aktuellen Standortes geht.
Aber, die App ist natrlich auch erst dann hilfreich, wenn der Router bereits installiert ist und eine Verbindung ermglicht.
Wenn ich mir etwas an diesem Router wnschte, dann wre es ein Datenstift” mit dem ich auf dem Display etwas gezielter” manvrieren knnte, als mit meinen groben Fingern.
Aber dies ist bereits Jammern auf hohem Niveau, da es ja in der Regel eine einmalige Sache ist und danach nur noch Freude ber die sehr gute Leistung des mobilen Routers herrscht.
Ach ja, man sieht brigens in App und Display, die Anzahl der Gerte, die sich gerade in dem eigenen Netz befinden ;). Da ist es dann auch eine schne Funktion, dass man Gastzugnge verwalten kann, um einem lieben Nachbarn auch einmal den Gru in die Heimat zu ermglichen.
Fazit:
Absolute Camperempfehlung. Extrem leistungsstarker, mobiler Router

Sinon, ce NETGEAR M6 fonctionne bien, rglages de routeur trs complets, et rapide (5G et Wi-Fi 6). Bref tout comme annonc.
L’administration par l’application sur smartphone est ok, mais c’est plus complet par l’interface web du routeur.
The battery was a different issue, I removed the memory card which I suspect drained the battery, this improved the life but it still the battery got HOT HOT HOT.
So I now leave it sat on the screen and the battery in the air. No more issues, no more the device telling me it needs a cooling period as it got a bit hot (yes this did happen) when on charge and in use. Works as one would expect.
I bought this for the aerial connection as I knew I would have reception issues and got lucky on the second attempt at ordering an aerial.
Should have mentioned I required adapter leads for the aerial. Search for: EWC533-1GE

(It is a bit like shopping for water containers with a tap. There is a lot of negative feedback from those, with complaints of ” the tap is useless”which you should read: they didn’t loosen the lid to allow air in. User error, or faulty item ?
But, I ‘m delighted to say, I have a 3 x improvement, both in Upload and Downloud, using the same SIM card, same static location, than I had before. And I have done about 30 tests, at different times, before and after.
I bought this from Amazon direct, but from Warehouse, used like new. ( it was like new, still sealed).
Although it seems a huge outlay, if it is important to you in getting connected with better results , I suggest Buy one! ( you can always return it if it doesn’t live up to your expectations! That’s Amazon, a great return policy.
I will add, remember to set up your SIM card to get that communicating with the router. You will find that in the software, under Advanced Setting, Cellular. Click Add. Then you need the info of your SIM provider, APN etc it may be already on your phone if you look hard enough, and just add it to the list.

The battery lasts about 8 hours, but you can run it with the battery removed, as long as you have a 12v power supply.
And I will add; I wasn’t paid to say this, and the item I paid full price for.
Let’s not forget I can take it away with me when on holiday.
At one point I was paying over 200 per month for TV, landline and internet + mobile. I now pay 18 per month which covers internet and TV streaming. The router that came with the 18 mobile deal was awful. This router solved the problem. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Battery if you do not use it with 1 or 2 bar signal too much will last 24 hours.
If you are in a zone with poor signal that time can half.
I managed to get 60mbps speeds on EE in city areas and 2-10mbps on areas with 1 bar signal.
The modem has many useful features but is not perfect.
I own few other models and this one seems to perform best from 4G+ portable class.
Firstly, the Netgear MR5200 5g mifi box replaces a highly rated huawei 4g mifi device.
The old box achieved a download of ~20-25 mbps. The MR5200 achieves a standard 250-330 mbps download.
I’ve linked the MR5200 box to a Netgear Orbi Pro wifi-6 mini router using a cat 8 ethernet cable, and the range extends throughout our 3 bedroom apartment.
This is an exceptional mifi router, given its ease of use, dependability and connectivity of mobiles, laptops, printers, speakers, etc., typical of a family property.
An observation I made however is, in one area, where LTE B20 has a better signal, it keeps trying to lock to LTE B3. In fact, I never once saw it connect to B20, despite the modem reporting it in its list of bands from the terminal.
All the other features work as one would expect and the data offloading feature looks very handy indeed. I gave it four stars due to the incredibly high cost, but you get what you pay for in this case.
TBH not worth the money I was expecting to do amazing things. I’m using In my house for faster 5G Internet via external anntena managed to pull 200 MBS from it and 60 upload but still need time to set it up I find the wireless range not good. So I plan on using the LAN port to my gaming router with lots of range to solve the issue. Snap dragon is good but the idea of dumping my slow land line has gone out the window for now.
Great router, works very well, Its our main Internet access at home and we take it away in our caravan and its never failed. Easy to install, and configure. I would have preferred SMA connectors as opposed to the ts9, as the cables can drop out, but a minor grip. A lot of money, but a lot of router!
Plugged in EE simcard, set-up took about 3 minutes and it is up and flying. On average 4 bars gives us 50 mbps on Wednesday afternoon (I guess this is when network got throttled at its hardest), so will let it play for week or two and see how it is, if not – I will add external antennas, not a big deal.
Solid unit, easy to setup, plenty of settings inside and nice design.
Update after 2 weeks of use.
I went for external antenna, – getting ~120 mbps depending on weather. Because we use it to connect around 10 devices it was overheating a bit, so after quick Google for solution we took the battery out and sorted more powerful power source for it. End of the story, it does the job behind the computer screen and never been seen again, uptime 1 week and counting.
Increase speed on mobile from 1.6 to 20mb in pretty poor signal area connected to external aerial and more in good signal area, i have had 60mb without aerial IE portable and do believe more to be had. can be Little tricky to set up but anyone could do it and once set up very simple you just connect as with any other WI-FI connection. Even has Ethernet connection. Portable as well and can plug in without using battery which is handy. Overall would recommend this product. Only downside it is a little pricey for what it is and haven’t rated tech support as not used as ye
It works, and it would do the job for most people. I can get between 100 to 300Mbps depending on the time of day and weather, i.e. decent 5G speeds, in London. This router’s probably the best if you need the absolute maximum speeds as its internal antennae are great.
The bad:
– 5GHz WiFi band has an even smaller range than a typical router.
– User interface is rubbish, even a BT HomeHub page looks better.
– Device can’t forward texts to another number, so whilst the SIM can be set up to forward calls to another number, texts won’t be. This is should be an easy software feature, but NETGEAR haven’t implemented it.
– Router interface lacks many software features, e.g. a built-in speedtest.
This router seems like one designed to be used by connecting to another router to do the work for it.
Update 10-01-2022: After using this for a few months, my internet connection stopped working. I found out that key APN settings such as MCC are locked so the router could not find my EE signal, and kept defaulting to 3 UK. Additionally the SIM card is now quite bent, which isn’t a big issue if you’re able to get a free replacement easily.
I’ve sent in a return request and I’ve purchased a Huawei 5G CPE Pro 2 for half the price of this Netgear M5 router.
Update 08-03-2022: Returned to this device after trying 3 other well known 5G routers which all performed significantly worse than this router.
Firstly, Build quality and feel in the hand are very good. The M1 is a nice looking piece of equipment.
Secondly, Ease of set up is very good. The manual is adequate and the steps can be followed with relative ease.
Thirdly and most importantly, Performance. Early days to have any real information on this aspect of the router really. I am running my the router with an O2 Data Only sim supplied by “Govivo” (Excellent Service) and with a Poynting Antenna, I had good results in a previously very intermittent data download area.
In summary, nice quality, so far good performance But quite a high price tag (260) when you compare with some other routers on the market bearing in mind it is a 4G only route
This is one honest review from a guy who travels a lot and always ends up in the worst dead spots with work ARMY ! . I needed to put an end to no signal with any smart phone, after watching several videos online I began to notice a pattern with the devices people chose, and they all recommended The Netgear Nighthawk M1. So I went ahead and purchased one just last week. I was sceptical as I couldn’t even get 4G on my phone without going outside 20- 30 meters or so , and then it was intermittent. So it arrived and I plugged it in and downloaded the Netgear app and followed the instructions and booooooom I got 4G in my room ! Then it sed 4G+ ? I did a quick speed test on my phone and it was far better than my broadband at home !!!!!! I know this is a bit of a read but hopefully Iv helped someone with there issues of no signal dead spot, I have taken this home and tested it against my internet provider which was around 65MBS NETGEAR – 100MBS !! I have now cancelled my broadband ! Thank you Netgear I don’t know how you don it but your devices are epic and I could talk to my family and steam movies in a dead spot for over 3 months deployment!!!!
I found it very easy to set up and get it running. The software upgrade was very simple to do. VERY impressed with the speeds achieved and with its connectivity. At the moment I use it in the car, but when allowed I hope to use it for holidays both here and abroad. No complaints about the functionality of the unit.
There are two annoying things that take a star off.
The first is the battery capacity. I find that with just my phone connected I can only get about 6 hours before it needs charging. I feel that for a supposedly high end bit of kit, and being advertised as lasting all day, this is not acceptable.
The other thing is charging. Using the supplied cable and charger it never achieves full charge when operating. If I turn it off and charge the battery I do get a full charge, but sometimes it switches itself on and Doesn’t fully charge. Also the battery gets very warm.
In conclusion, the MR1100 is a really nice unit sadly let down by battery issues. If those were fixed five stars across the board.
Update: I got 2.5-meter mast for antenna and signal level and speed improved. So I got now 90 – 320Mbps with (3-4 bars Fair or Good signal levels). The web interface on modem provides numeric value/signal level, that you can use to adjust / point antenna close to cell direction. I got an omnidirectional antenna, and my cell not very close to the house and I don’t get a direct view to it. With the directional antenna, you can get better results (not tested, but I believe so). Used it in daily camping outside the city. Kind of nice experience to take the internet with you. Very happy with the purchase.
