Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersTitle: UMIDIGI G1 Tab – A Media Marvel with Budget Brilliance

I recently got my hands on the UMIDIGI G1 Tab, and it’s been an intriguing journey through the highs and lows of budget-friendly tablets. Let’s dive into the details.

    Design and Build:
The G1 Tab boasts a solid plastic body with a satisfying heft, giving it a feel of sturdiness. The 10.1-inch display, though not the most high-resolution, offers acceptable brightness, making it a decent canvas for media consumption. The inclusion of a pre-installed screen protector and a silicone case in the packaging is a thoughtful touch, saving users the hassle of separate purchases.

    Performance and Everyday Use:
Running on Android 13, the G1 Tab impresses with its zippy performance in casual use. Browsing, streaming, and light gaming work like a charm. However, the Rockchip RK3562 SOC and 4GB RAM, while respectable at this price point, reveal their limitations when pushed with demanding tasks. It’s not a powerhouse, but it does the job for day-to-day activities.

    Media Experience: 4/5
The tablet truly shines in the realm of media consumption. The display, while not groundbreaking, delivers vivid colors and acceptable sharpness. The stereo speakers, although not perfectly positioned for landscape use, offer clear and immersive sound. Whether you’re into YouTube, Netflix, or light gaming, the G1 Tab provides an enjoyable experience.

    Battery Life:
One of the pleasant surprises is the G1 Tab’s battery life. With idle power consumption impressively low and a decent capacity, it easily lasts a day with regular use. Fast charging adds to the convenience, ensuring you spend more time enjoying content than waiting for the tablet to juice up.

    Value for Money:
Perhaps the strongest suit of the G1 Tab is its affordability. Priced in the low $100 range, it manages to offer a well-rounded package, including features like Wi-Fi 6 support, expandable storage, and a headphone jack—a rarity in today’s market. For the price, it’s hard to complain.

Verdict: – Recommended for Budget Enthusiasts
In conclusion, the UMIDIGI G1 Tab positions itself as a commendable choice for those on a budget seeking a reliable media consumption device. It might not replace your high-end workstation, but if you’re looking for an affordable tablet that covers the basics with a few pleasant surprises, the G1 Tab deserves a spot on your consideration list.

UMIDIGI’s G2 Tablet 10.1 Inch, Android 13 Tablet was supplied in a fairly bland but certainly functional blue coloured and branded cardboard box, which contained the tablet, a USB charging cable and a 10 watt charger with the obligatory instruction booklet in 6 languages. I took the time to charge the tablet first so that I would have some idea of the charging time and the location of hardware features etc. If we consider the orientation as portrait, this has an 8MP camera at the front and back which also has an LED flash, speakers are at the bottom, on/off and volume up/down are at the top of the right hand side, and the USB charging port, TF Card slot, 3.5mm headphone jack and mic are at the top edge. The tablet weighs in at 560g and the tablets dimensions are 242 x 160mm though the fairly thick bezels reduce screen area to 216 X 136MM, the screen is a 1280x800FHD display panel.

In terms of build quality I would say this is pretty good, it isn’t in the Rolls Royce of tablets category but it feels well put together and solid so likely a durable unit. The 6000mAh battery charges fairly briskly, and I have had a lot of streaming, music, browsing and movie action from a single charge — just over 6 hours in fact which is quite good for a unit at this price point. It does have some foibles, when booting it took 1minute 4 seconds to get beyond the splash screen, then a further 33 seconds to have the icons etc displayed and ready for use so it isn’t the fastest of units. I have also noticed that when starting multiple apps it can choke a little and even changing from portrait to landscape mode takes a second or so — it isn’t instantaneous. Of course there is no fingerprint sensor on board and the screen can be a little dull in daylight even at 100% brightness, but this is not a deal breaker if you just want something that you can take with you when travelling and want to watch something or play a low hardware requirements game — this is not a gaming tablet for the latest video intensive games. One other thing, when playing media in landscape mode both speakers are on one side — the right if you have the power button up top, this means that the sound from speakers is not balanced — you can fix this with headphones of course. Connectivity to and from the device is fine I could connect Bluetooth devices with no issues, the TF card works a treat, and all of the 2.4 and 5Ghz wireless networks I tried were fine, whilst wireless connection speeds were good.

Overall then this is not a performance monster, but if all you need is web browsing, video, music and some streaming with perhaps a little light document work — it’s a well priced tablet.

Golden Review Award: 52 From Our UsersThe UMIDIGI G1 Tab came well packaged, and included a USB-A to USB-C cable and a power adapter. A screen protector is pre-installed. The tablet itself has a plastic body, but there’s a good heft to it and it feels solid.

Android 13 came pre-installed and has a fairly stock skin. There isn’t any bloatware except Google apps. After initial setup, it downloaded a system update from October 10, 2023 with an August 5, 2023 Android security update. 17GB of storage was used by the operating system, pre-installed apps, and updates.

The screen is not very high resolution at only 1280×800, but it’s fairly bright and is acceptable for the price point. An oddity is that the ambient light sensor is on the left bezel right where my thumb would rest when I’m holding the tablet in landscape orientation. There are stereo speakers, but they are positioned on the right side when holding the device in landscape orientation, so the stereo effect doesn’t really work. In portrait, they are oriented correctly and do work.

Battery life appears to be quite good, only draining about 10% with the initial setup and installing updates for both pre-installed apps and the operating system. Idle power consumption while sitting on my desk for 24 hours was about 5%.

The Rockchip RK3562 SOC and 4GB RAM are fairly low end, but they’re expected for the price point. Having 4GB RAM is respectable since some cheap Android tablets have less. The tablet is definitely not fast, but works fine for general Internet browsing and watching YouTube videos. It’s not powerful enough to run Call of Duty: Mobile, but more basic games should be ok.

The tablet supports Wi-Fi 6. On a TELUS gigabit connection and a TP-Link Omada Wi-Fi 6 access point, I managed to get 344Mbps down/306Mbps up — not bad for a cheap tablet. For comparison, I got about 500Mbps down/up on a Samsung Galaxy S10e.

Overall, the G1 Tab is decent. Don’t expect a performance monster for something that’s priced in the low $100-ish price range. For simple tasks such as web browsing, checking e-mails, and watching videos, it’s perfectly adequate. The price is right for what it’s capable of delivering.

Cheap tablet at an affordable price

Golden Review Award: 11 From Our UsersThe tablet arrived, it was used for a few weeks & charged a few times. C usb charging socket was connecting with some difficulties and was pretty tight. It appeared to have broken off with some wiring being damaged after a few charging sessions.
I have tried to contact UMIDIGI and check if it is possible to repair it. They are ready to repair software issues. It is virtually impossible to repair any hardware issue; Amazon is also not helpful in sending me back to the producer’s website. Not a chance to repair and pay for it, not a chance to do anything under the warranty.
I have contacted an international producer via his website – also no joy.
BEWARE – in case of any hardware issues you are on your own.

    UPDATED REVIEW.
The seller contacted me with the solution: refund, repair or a new tablet. Positive surprise.
After exchanging a few emails my problem is now solved! Thank you

If you’re looking for a tablet to play the latest fast-paced games on, this isn’t likely to be top of your list, as although it does play most games I’ve tried on it, they aren’t going to be as playable as they would be on an octa-core tablet. That said, you aren’t as likely to get a faster tablet for this price unless you are prepared to compromise on other areas.

So although it’s okay to play games at a push, if you really need the larger screen estate compared to a phone, this isn’t going to be its primary function for me. Instead, I’ll be mostly using this to stream TV/films. And here, it does very well – the screen isn’t amazing, but is certainly up to scratch in my opinion. TV/films stream well with no glitching/buffering etc. to annoy you during playback; sound quality is good, but I would always recommend connecting to a good pair of headphones instead.

Battery life is good, streaming for 3-4 hours still leaves me with over half the battery, and with the supplied quick charger you’ll be back to full charge in no time at all.

Overall, a very nice tablet, for a great price.

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersFirstly, it should be mentioned that the presentation of Umidigi products (and many other suppliers at this budget price point) is exceptional, the 10.1 inch tablet is boxed on top of the relevant paperwork but also underneath neatly packed in is the charger and cable – for 79.99 that’s pretty impressive when you think the big boys (Samsung, Apple) have omitted these for several years now…
So tablet itself is sturdy, well built and solid to hold, the soft textured finish on the back would make a case less of an urgent need and likewise Umidigi have included a pre fitted screen protector which is a nice touch. Having put in my details and loaded up various different apps to see how it would perform in real world conditions (I always take spec sheets with a pinch of salt). The screen is bright enough, quite vibrant and watching youtube is more than acceptable, there are 2 speakers weirdly placed on the same side which detracts from a possible stereo effect however they are loud enough for said content. Moving onto the streaming services again perfectly acceptable unless watching a full on film where the speakers may not quite ne up to it but again Umidigi have provided a 3.5mm headphone jack so you’re covered! Moving onto games the basics will run and I even got some of the more demanding to but often glitchy to the point I wouldn’t recommend. But then this tablet isn’t for your Iphone owning enthusiast that upgrades everything for the sake of upgrading, it’s for the kids to enjoy in the back of the car or an older person that just enjoys internet or even reading books etc. So far the battery life has been fine, it has a 6000 mAh battery, runs android 13 and has the newer usb-c charging port and I’ve had no issues connecting to the internet. Ultimately it’s an up to date 10′ android tablet for 80 (at time of review) of course if you side by side it to a Galaxy tab or similar the corners cut will be more than evident but for everyday use as tool to either watch content or scroll the web there’s very little reason to spend 100’s more. At this price point it would be very hard not to recommend.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersAssolutamente un Best Buy!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersDelivered in its own branded box

Inside the box sits the 10.1inch tablet a red usb charging lead and a usb plug , there’s also an instruction manual.

This tablet is easy to set up ( I’m a major technophobe but if I can manage it anyone can )

Firstly turn the tablet on and connect to your WiFi , once that’s done the tablet takes a few minutes to set up , then sign into your Google account , here you can choose to copy all of your apps etc to the tablet .

Choose your language and browser from the lists available and press confirm another few minutes and the tablet is set up ready to go .. if you’ve ever set up an android mobile it’s exactly the same .

Operating is fast using Google Chrome browser , I was surprised by the quality of the camera I took a photo of my dog in a darkened room and the picture was really clear .

Using streaming services like Amazon prime video there’s no lagging and the picture quality is fantastic .

The sound isnt surround sound there are two speakers located next to eachother on the bottom of the tablet , however I think it’s good enough for what I want to use it for .

This tablet has been well constructed it is a little heavier than some brands but delivers the same results . This is priced at 79.99 which is more than reasonable considering its running Android 13 which is currently the latest version

    I’m happily recommending
