This is a lovely crisp, tasty gin that is a little out of the ordinary.
I hadn’t been planning to buy it. I was aware of its existence, always thought it looked interesting- but then it was in the Prime Day sale for a really decent price. Did not regret my decision,
We paired it with very plain tonic water and lemon, so as no to drown it out and frankly, it was delicious. Like hangover-the-next-day delicious. Oops. Drink responsibly, folks!
Roku is my favourite gin – and I have owned and tasted about 30 different brands. This though, this might take that title. It is citrusy, but not overpowering so, certainly unlike flavoured gin like Tanquray Sevilla. It’s a nice rounded profile, with that hint of citrus coming through slightly at the beginning and sort of builds. It’s quite a smooth gin and very easy drinking. I wouldn’t pair this with any strong flavoured tonic, I have tried elderflower and it gives it a bit more sweetness which some might like.
The bottle design is generic Asian, and would not look out of place in a fancy ramen place or bar. Overall, if you like Japanese gin I think this is a good choice for you.
Bought this on a deal as I’ve enjoyed most Japanese spirits I’ve tried.
Found it to be very tasty, really well balanced and good quality. Definitely not the punchiest gin on the market, but I find that Japanese spirits are more about the balance of flavour and complexity than they are about a big slap in the face- and I like that fact.
This gin makes a very good gin and tonic (I went with Fevertree light tonic and grapefruit), and really shines in cocktails. Made a fantastic Last Word cocktail, and also makes a delicious Gin Fizz.
I’ll definitely buy again!
Nice bottle too, the girlfriend has her eye on it when it’s finished.
