My daughter needed a laptop as she is starting her GCSE courses, we felt that an iPad was no longer suitable. This Chromebook is amazing!! Great screen quality, battery life, was easy to set up and is easy to use!
She is able to do her homework on this with great ease, it’s very fast and responsive. Would definitely recommend this over a laptop or a computer that uses Windows. Much better!
A little heavier than I expected it to be but an all round great purchase! Im very happy with it and use it daily Clear sound and a large screen, does everything i need and more. I love that it connects up with my phone and the ‘locate’ feature (which calls your phone for you) is great!
Nice little Chromebook the only thing is when looking for touchscreen this one came up. I read through all the feedback and ordered it would have been ideal if it was touchscreen but it isn’t. My husband needs touchscreen because of his eyes so had to send it back
Powers itself up as yoh open tfe lix (no wsy yo avoid).
Logs into the national VPN in the country where you are using it.
Annoying – GMAIL is always logged in, meaning that you CANNOT ever log out!
Wasn’t sure if I should get a new windows laptop or a chromebook, after a lot of research I decided on this chromebook and I am very pleased with it its super fast and the battery life is amazing compared to my previous laptop. Got it at a great price as well. I would recommend this chromebook as I can do anything that my old laptop did only quicker and with the added bonus of Google play apps.
Using this laptop to write this review. Have to say it was a good price for such a large unit but to have it on your lap while working is not comfortable. There is a bar that runs along the bottom from side to side and it has quit a sharp edge to it, digging into your leg the whole time it is sat there. I am no tech wizard so it probably does a lot more than I will ever use but for me, browsing and watching films or videos it is fine. The speakers are crap though, why put speakers on the bottom of a laptop when they get muffled by your clothing?
A very nice product for the price. I particularly like the 17 inch screen. However I was disappointed with the limited availability of basic applications. I only use half a dozen apps of which 3 I am unable to download on a Chromebook. These are FITBIT, SIGNIA (hearing aids) and HSBC UK MOBILE BANKING. If I had known this I probably would have chosen something else. For this reason I can not give it 5 stars. I had not realised that there appears to be an “app war” going on even for the most fundamental applications.
This is my second chromebook and I’m very happy with the overall quality of the unit.
This was a refurbished unit and it’s not clear from the description that a power supply is not supplied with the unit, though these are available from Amazo
Its good for surfing the net as i haven’t used the google Chromebook before it takes a bit of getting used to overall its fast and reliable and a great price
I bought this as I needed an additional laptop to work on whenever our Dell Windows laptop is being used by my family. I only need really need a browser for web apps, email, docs/sheets/drive etc. so this has everything I needed to take notes and do admin. Well it turns out to be much quicker for doing this stuff than the Dell Windows laptop and a sixth of the price!! It boots in seconds and everything is speedy. I’ve also turned on Linux in the settings, so am able to install Linux apps (from the terminal, or simply double clicking .deb files). I’ve installed Visual Studio Code which integrates with GitHub. This is superb value. I still need the windows laptop for large apps like Cubase, but I’d definitely recommend this Chromebook for students writing essays, writers, bloggers, self employed for admin, browsing, and using web apps.
Got this for 139 with payments over 6 months. 21-11-23.
I charged it straight away and you will know when it’s charged as the light goes from red to white.
2 minutes to set up and if I can set it up then anyone can set it up.
For a capital letter – press shift and your letter – easy.
For stuff you can’t find straight away – press on the time, bottom right off your screen and that will take you to where you need to go.
Camera – very good. Volume is not the best but it’s not poor either. I charged it last night and it’s still on near full capacity, 12 hours later. Granted, I wasn’t on it much but still good to know.
I won’t need to have my desktop on all day now saving on the electric bill.
I go to a caravan park twice a year with no internet access. As far as I’m aware, I can transfer my mobile data on to this laptop – perfect.
If you’re a parent and you’re not rich then as a child I would be very happy if I was opening this on Christmas Day but that’s just my opinion.
I was tempted to get an Apple laptop at 799 for my first laptop but I thought – why? I’ve had this a day and for the price, I will be shocked if something drastically goes wrong.
I must say that I’m very surprised about the laptop.
First of the laptop came in a well portable box that was with everything and it was well done wrapped in that it made me know that nobody jas used it or nobody has done anything with the settings
2nd the weight is brilliant and was heavy enough and that’s also brilliant 3rd the speed that got to me because I’m very use to laptops that is slow and likes to take time to load up but all I did was went to look it over to begin with and straight away the laptop had loaded straight up with no messing around and no slowness at all
4th the sturdiness and the screen quality as well as the Connectivity are all great they all just like what you wanted.
I can there for say that the screen is great and perfect and the sturdiness is also great and perfectly as well.
For my first chrome laptop I can easily say in caps WOW and the reason why is for this is because I have never used a chrome laptop before at all as it always been all different types but I do strongly believe in my self that I will be wanting to stay with chrome as I have had a taste of the laptop with the chrome
It’s worth the money and I’ll definitely will recommend it.
As for the screen touch I have no comments about that due to that I’m still getting use to the laptop and adjusting to know the programing and so on.
But I’m very happy about this laptop big time I think I might be getting another one for back up but not sure as yet but let me advise you if you looking for a great laptop than this is the one for you
I thought it wasn’t going to be up to much when I saw the price of it. But I thought I would give it a try knowing I could return it with the Amazon guarantee.
I was disappointed at first with it due to only using my finger on the pad. It wasn’t very responsive, probably due to the fact that I have very long nails.
I was ready to pack it up and return after one day.
I decided to give it a try with the mouse from my other pc.
And WOW!! What a difference it made.
There is a part of the keyboard that is blank that I use for the mouse and it’s enough. Im guessing this is why the space was left.
The keyboard is very easy to use and the numbers block on the right hand side is handy.
This laptop does not run off Windows it runs off Linux but behaves exactly like a laptop. I was confused by the lack of icons on the screen. Apparently they don’t sit there, they sit in the ‘tray’ below the screen or the side or the top. Wherever you want to put it. At first I didn’t like it but now I’ve got used to it I really do. And it leaves the screen clear.
This system runs on apps, just like my phone.. or it can still run off of websites too.
It connects to your phone and shows up any WhatsApp messages or texts etc, which I find very handy to have.
The sound quality is quite good. Doesn’t sound tinny, like a lot of them do.
Superfast boot up. Seconds. Impressive.
It has a micro memory slot which is very handy indeed. I put a 512gb in there and it read it, no problem
Battery life is excellent.
It’s quite heavy and very sturdy.
Couple of downsides, which are not too bothersome.
Only 2 usb slots.
No HDMI slot either, which would have been nice.
All in all the positives out weigh the negatives.
Get one! But get a mouse!!
I’d never owned a Chromebook before and at this price I thought there wasn’t much to lose so I took the plunge. In all honesty I’m absolutely blown away and amazed. I totally now understand why Chrome OS has recently overtook Apple as the second most used operating system.
Boots up in about 6 seconds and is online immediately. Everything is fast including Youtube. It’s sort of comparable in speed to an I7 quad core Windows machine and even then it does some things quicker still. It doesn’t have to load and deal with all the legacy APIs that Windows has to nor does it need any sub-systems. It’s an optimised and extremely lean operating system. So even though it’s only a Celeron N4500 with 4GB of ram it absolutely flies. You also don’t have to worry about updates or viruses and when it does update its seamless and unobtrusive. Everything is nice and super simple. Once you get it you really do appreciate how much of a slow burden Windows was on your computer. Other nice touches are total integration with your Android phone. If your phone is nearby you’ll see your Whatsapp messages come on the laptop screen and if anyone sends you a picture on Whatsapp you’ll see that too and you can download it to the laptop immediately.
The disadvantage of course is that it can’t run Windows software. But I’d say that that is probably irrelevant for about 9 out of 10 people these days as most users are doing everything online now and this trend is accelerating at a rapid pace. Ultimately everything will be internet and cloud based in the end anyway. Also remember that if a computer is used for work purposes then this will usually be provided by the employer. But if you are reliant on specialist Windows applications such as music making software or CAD software then this machine might not be suitable (but even that is changing rapidly too due to online tools).
Google Docs is excellent and for me at least it has totally dispelled the need for Microsoft Office and it’s also a lot better than Microsoft’s Office 365 online version. With Chrome OS being online based it has forced me to look for online browser versions of the things that I use a computer for. And everything is there, even Solitaire!
The machine itself is a dream come true. Most importantly for me (yes most importantly), it is a very stylish and elegant design and itches all cravings for a Macbook Pro with flying colours. It’s very well built and the chassis has military grade certification and is tested. There is a small amount of keyboard flex but I think this is irrelevant at this price point and it doesn’t move when typing. The computer is also nice and up to date and has USB C charging from both the left and right side of the computer. Nice touch.
So it’s a complete winner and a game changer for me and I can’t see myself ever buying a Windows based laptop again. As mentioned in the title I am a computer geek. I’ve used them all right from the ZX Spectrum days and I’ll guarantee you that you won’t regret this. The Chromebook is a winner.
Needed a laptop quickly whilst mine was being repaired and saw this, saw the price and reviews and bought it.
Now I’m very happy with the laptop in general, the screen is clear and it’s heavy but not so you can’t carry it comfortably in a laptop case/bag, the layout is simple but nice and the start up speed you can’t complain about at all.
However what is so annoying to me is you don’t know if you’ve got capitals unless you type and then it took me to google just to find out how to type in capitals without holding the capitals key down continuously.
There is no back light on the keypad either which is annoying and would of been cheap enough to add that feature.
Finally .. and I don’t understand why but the screen measured diagonally corner to corner of the screen display (measured how they do in store) it comes to 16.4″ not 17″ as advertised and this I’m completely flummoxed over as this is a top brand and no matter what tape measure I used or who measured it for me it still came to 16.4″ (my son made it 16.5) but nonetheless it isn’t 17″ close enough not to complain or return though.
All in all I’m happy to use this as a comfortable spare that’s easy to navigate and has all the basic functionality you need.
