Needed a new laptop as my existing laptop was struggling and appeared to have problems. This model has 8 Ram and is almost instantaneous in response unlike my previous machine. What an improvement.

So purchased this after retiring and no longer had a work laptop.

I wanted a cheap ish I7 for home use (spreadsheets, creating designs, surfing etc.) I have had if a few weeks now and used it every day.

    Good points:
    – Screen size
    – Bootup speed
    – Responsive
    – feels as good as any work laptop
    – good size keyboard
    – keypad
    – light enough for travel

    Bad points
    – battery is ok but does not last as long as I am used too

Enjoying using it so far. but it feels sturdy and good quality

My old ASUS finally gave up the ghost after ten years. I decided to stick with the same make as I was impressed with my old laptop and how long it lasted. I’ve been very pleased with this new laptop as it was easy to set up and it’s fast.

Had a previous model ASUS for years. It worked so well but now slow. So stayed with a name I know.
This new one is so fast and easy to use. Perfect for what I need.

Bought for a nine year old child. Big thumbs up from them. Uses it for homework and to play games like Roblox and rocket league. Says gameplay doesn’t lag like the switch can sometimes

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersThis is a fabulous laptop for my needs, I don’t game so I can’t make any comment on it’s use for this purpose but I can say it’s ideal for reviewing, editing and writing articles, browsing the web, watching video tutorials and general internet use. The speed is impressive for such a reasonably priced laptop and functionality suits me fine. I’m definitely happy with my purchase and would recommend for anyone using it for the above functions. I was a little wary of this purchase as I replacing a very old but very expensive laptop that has served me well for 6 years, I was not disappointed, it’s fab!

The laptop spec is perfectly fine for normal use (not heavy creative graphic works) and bit of light gaming too.
However, it has got a terrible screen quality and technology (it is TN ; NOT IPS or VA) which is never mentioned anywhere in the product description or specifications !!
The viewing angle of the screen is quite narrow i.e. it only can be viewed properly at perpendicular.
As you increase the viewing angle, the color will distort and contrast will fade away.

Great laptop, very fast, good graphics for everyday use, it’s also quite good for light gaming. Very good speakers. In overall, i would strongly recommend it for everyday use.
    5 stars!!!!

I have sold 7 of these this year and my customers love them. The keyboard has a nice feel to it. You can add an extra hard drive but you have to buy the cable and it alone costs 20. Its easy to fit once you open up the laptop. I bought one for myself as my company laptop. The only negative is the battery does not last long before a recharge.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI am not a tehno but am delighted with this laptop…I was nervous but very easy to set up. Use it for basic stuff & find it very quick. Not bothered with lack of keyboard light & the keyboard is a delight to use. The screen is not extremely bright even at 100% but that saves my eyes so not complaining. For me the battery lasts as stated & the charge time is also correct. It’s robust which I love as I have no fear of breaking something so can speed up my usage. In fact it has given me confidence to use the variety of options offered…saying a lot for a non-tech! I spoke to the Asus team reregistration & got through quick for free. They were very helpful which is also a major plus. Regarding the sound it’s not perfect but I have got use to & am now very happy with the quality. If you’re looking for a laptop for basic, common usage I would highly recommend.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our Usersi bought this laptop once and i was using it for school and gaming (only valorant) and this laptop couldnt do both. Maybe it was only the one i got but when i run Word with Chrome or Edge, its fans are making a lot of noise. Also, whenever i scrolled on my document, bottom part of the laptop would start flickering in black and its disturbing as you imagine. build quality is average. screen is NOT OK. even if you look straight to the screen with proper angle, sides are getting blurry because of the screen used on this laptop.
Do not expect any good gaming experience. I tried playing Minecraft, Valorant, Roblox and bluestack for emulating mobile games. It is bad. All the settings were at lowest but still getting over 60 fps was impossible with this laptop. AS I SAID BEFORE, MAYBE THE ONE I HAD THESE ISSUES, but it was a bad experience. If your budget is not high as mine and could only afford laptops at this price, use it to get refurbished but good quality laptops, which is what i did. i hope it was helpful.

Golden Review Award: 25 From Our UsersThis is for the X1504ZA model which is i5 12th gen and 16gb ram.

I snatched this for under 400 as a warehouse deal – at this price this laptop can be really great value because it’s so hard to find many affordable options with 16gb ram. However, you need to be aware there’s no magic pricing here – significant corners were cut which may or not matter to you.

    1. Screen: the specs say “IPS-level” but I wonder if this is actually a glorified TN panel? The viewing angles are incredibly poor, using this laptop on the couch is very complicated since you have to be facing the screen at a perfect angle. The colours are mediocre as with most budget laptops but OK but surfing the web etc. The brightness is quite low, lower than the MSI Modern 15 and an HP 14s-dq2502na, probably very difficult to use on a sunny day (but those don’t come all that often eh?)

    2. Battery life: appalling. You can get 4.5hs of light use if you’re lucky. (I profiled it extensively) This was the same as the 1 year old HP 14, and 1-1.5 hours less than the MSI Modern 15 with Ryzen 7730U with a marginally smaller battery (39Wh vs 41Wh). The vivobook draws on average on idle 1.5W more than the MSI Modern which is almost to be expected as the i5 can’t beat the ryzen in power consumption. This, paired with a small battery and probably low quality components that are very power inefficient (and a larger screen) means you just can’t get much battery life. People claiming it’s great are likely coming from ancient dusty laptops that can barely hold a charge.

    3. Ports: so outdated. The USB-C port does not support charging nor video out. The poor battery life could be compensated by easy charging via USB-C but no, you have to carry the (albeit small) proprietary barrel charger everywhere which is highly impractical if you move around the house or generally use this on your lap… Also because of this, you can only ever support 1 external monitor so OK but not ideal for say, working.

If you don’t care about any of the above then the laptop is actually very good value depending on the price you get it for. The build is really good for the price, I really enjoyed the keyboard (minus the unusual bottom row of the numpad). The touchpad was very good even if the mouse did skip a few times. The bezels are small and the whole unit feels solid for a plastic build and actually looks sleek if you don’t look too hard at it. As a last negative, I’m personally not a fan of the 16:9 aspect ratio, the 15.6″ screen seems too wide and short – I find the newer 16:10 to be far more practical and enjoyable but you can’t have it all at a budget level, just consider this as well. Lastly, as you’d expect the performance with the recent 12th gen i5 and 16gb of ram (and a decent NVMe SSD) is actually excellent for a budget laptop, super speedy.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI got the 500gb with i7 and 8 gb ram. So far so good. I’ve only used it for writing on obsidian and youtube so haven’t done any heavy work. Battery life with multiple applications(2 for this example) is 3-4 hrs which is a lot better than my last laptop. If you’re looking for a laptop for daily use either at work or at school this one is ideal with more than enoug storage. My only concern with this level of usage is how easily it smudges and how quickly it heats up. I’ve started disconnecting it when battery is fully charged to minimise long term battery or hardware damage and have been using the laptop on a portable bed table to avoid clogging up the fan from day 1 but unless only one app is open it still heats up fast. I’m hoping I’m just overreacting and this is a normal temperature for the laptop.

I’m not sure how good it is for gaming as I mainly game on my phone or ipad so I’ll update this review later if I notice anything.

I briefly tested the camera and I’d say its adequate for work meetings, nothing bad or exemplary about it.

Overall its a good laptop, would recommend if a friend is looking for one in this price range

4.0 out of 5 stars Sturdy equipment, good for price

Golden Review Award: 106 From Our UsersWhen purchasing any tech product one always has to take into account whether the product represents good value. At this price-point the ASUS X515 is very good value for the following reasons: –

BUILD QUALITY. Excellent. The product looks and feels well-built. One has the impression that with reasonable care, this laptop will last a long time.

PERFORMANCE. Surprisingly Good. Considering the spec, I was not expecting the laptop to be particularly fast, especially when multitasking. But I have been pleasantly surprised, for everyday computing tasks it is more than able to do the job. The storage medium is superfast – impressive.

MONITOR (SCREEN). Good enough. At first I was disappointed with the screen, the factory settings were bland and uninspiring. But once you have setup the screen the results are very acceptable and the matt finish is excellent as it does not detract from brightness but removes all reflections – very good.

BATTERY LIFE. Sufficient. Don’t expect to run the laptop all day on a single charge. It is not that type of machine. But the battery will last long enough for most purposes. Battery and weight work in opposite directions, a bigger battery means longer battery life but also means a heavier laptop. I think ASUS have got the balance between battery life and weight just about right.

WEIGHT. A 15″ laptop is never going to be a lightweight option. However I am impressed with the balance that ASUS have achieved between Size; Build Quality; Battery and Weight. Just about perfect.

KEYBOARD. Outstanding. I love the keyboard. I touch-type at around 60wpm, so the keyboard is an essential item for me. I have found that I make far fewer mistakes on this keyboard. The size of keys, the spacing and the key-travel are absolutely perfect. 10 out of 10 to ASUS. Possibly the best keyboard that I have ever used.

TRACKPAD. Very good. Well worth the time spent getting to know all the actions that this trackpad can perform.

USER GUIDE. Excellent. Well written. Covers everything.

RECOMMEND. Yes. I would buy again.

Golden Review Award: 100 From Our UsersI have an old Packard Bell TJ65 that’s done me 10 years plus, I have to remove the keyboard (Stuck with velcro) then use a screwdriver to short a power up as the power button failed and a real pain to replace but it still works and for an old girl it is fine for me, BUT not for the rest of the family! The old TJ65 has an amazing shiny crystal clear screen as competed with the old Sony cinema laptops, but it is so flippin noisy it drives me mad and I installed a fan control software to quieten it down.

So I waited for Black Friday as I do my TV and Mobile requirements and this Asus laptop popped up very early on on Amazon before the sales started and I snapped it for 329. I bought a Crucial RAM 8GB DDR4 3200MHz in the sale for 20 which simply slots in, apart from undoing some screws on back of laptop it was simples, just plug and play, re-screw and done, upgraded Ram to 16GB. I am not a nerd or a techy, I don’t even know if I have done any good, but I feckin hate newspaper websites that kill my laptops and this has done the trick.

The Asus is really fast, very very quick starting, I have 3 profiles for family and it’s bullet fast. The screen is not as good as my old TJ65 but you getz what you pay for and it’s fine for what it has to do. If you need a seriously good screen then you need to dig deep right. It is light to carry, the hinges are not looking to be the strongest so will be careful and not take the Michael. But what I really love about it is it is silent, so silent I worry something is not right, I have a 1900 HP work laptop 3 months old and is noisy compared to this Asus! The battery is fine, it lasts for hours and I have never yet had to run for a charger, it is absolutely reliable and suspect that’s because it does not have an energy thirsty fan panging away..

The only downside is a real cheap keyboard, my HP is back-lit and posh, this is button press, twang and noisy as you type, but actually, for an old fart like me, it actually helps as I don’t mistype as much!

So I am sorry for the wordy review, I don’t do many, but it’s a definite yes from me and I would buy another, if I got some amazingly well paid job that meant i needed another, but I guess I have 3 laptops now so by default have a great job, unfortunately not in the pay scale department!!

Golden Review Award: 33 From Our UsersASUS Vivobook 15 X515JA 15.6″ Full HD Laptop

This comes with windows 11 home S so if you need to run application that not in the windows store then you can opt out of the windows S mode and it will revert to the usual windows home 11.
This can be done in the windows store to switch version or even upgrade to Pro if needed too.

The laptop itself isn’t half bad, for the price you pay its pretty good value its snappy while being responsive and should be able to run most applications and deal with their needs rather well.
Its not a gaming laptop nor a system that can be used to run heavy applications, so if you need a system for anything else this is perfectly suitable.
Wouldn’t be a bad laptop if your needing something for school, college etc.

The battery is probably the only thing that i felt within the price range could have been better it still last around 3 – 4 hrs however, this will also depends on the settings and application used so will vary from person to person.

Has most connectivity that one needs so one USB-C, three USB-A one of which is a USB 3.2 a HDMI and micro SD card slot which personally could have been a normal SD card slot.

Overall is a quick, snappy laptop that prefect for school or college needs. Will run all windows application perfectly fine.
Only criticism is the battery life which i felt if aimed at the student could have been a little better.
Build quality is as expected within the price range, its still a nice simple yet sleek design from ASUS.
