I’ve been trying to entice Goldfinches into my garden for weeks to no avail. I finally did a little Googling and found they prefer Niger seeds over almost every other food and that the seeds require a special feeder. I looked through Amazon’s offerings and chose this one based on other feedback and I’m beyond thrilled. It took a couple of weeks for the finches to realise it was there and then another couple for them to come in with any regularity – only one or two at first but then, suddenly, I had a queue! Two birds on the feeder, two birds waiting! I immediately purchased a second one and now they’re both being used every day, several times a day and I have others waiting! I’m so pleased. The feeder is a pretty solid construction but shaped in such a way that the bigger birds – starlings and pigeons mainly – just can’t access it. The top requires a bit of jiggling to pull up (but that’s actually a plus in my mind) and fits flush when pushed back. It’s easy to use, easy to clean and I’ve had fab results. Unfortunately the photo isn’t particularly clear but I assure you, there are four Goldfinches happily feeding. If I can find room, I’ll definitely be looking to add another one to try and entice the Greenfinches too. Amazon mentions “value for money” I can’t remember what I paid, about a tenner I think, but honestly, I couldn’t care less because they were worth every penny for me to see these beautiful birds enjoying my garden.
This bird feeder has a quality construction and has been manufactured to a good standard using a high grade of materials. It’s nice and sturdy, even had two birds on it at the same time. So it’s a good size and pretty stable. I like how easy it is to clean, by separating the pieces all of its accessible. All on all a nice looking bit of equipment that works well because ethe birds can see their feed, a good amount of perch for them to stand on. I find it quite easy to fill up.
We feed the garden birds nyjerseed.Which can go off quickly especially with all the wet weather. We have a Jacobi Jane 4 port feeder we use but if the bird activity slows down for a while we found the seed isn’t getting used and wastes. So this 2 port feeder is ideal or if you’re just starting to feed garden birds.
This small bird feeder is made with hardened plastic for the most part, with a clear plastic tube to hold the seeds.
It has a metal hanging loop at the top, and by pulling the plastic top up you have access to fill the feeder with seed.
The two perches on either side also clip out and the bottom can be removed, this is good as it means I can give the feeder a clean between filling and get out any seeds that have got wet and gone bad.
I’ve filled it up and put it in the garden ready to help the local birds during the coming cold days.
