I purchased this because my 4k portable screen uses the type C connector that is on the right side of my laptop, and the cord therefore gets in the way of my mouse. This right angle connector was the perfect solution to route strait back after leaving the computer.
No detectable changes in image quality, and the unit itself feels solid. Will likely purchase more.
The angled USB-C adapters are very well made. And they lived up to the promise of passing data at high speed. I use these between my PC and my high-performance docking station to drive two 4K monitors and a gigabit Ethernet connection. These work flawlessly.
They seem to work correctly even when connected in between my laptop and a TB4 dock. Technically a passive adapter with a USB-C female connector is not allowed per USB-C spec so YMMV.
They’re very useful to get the a large USB-C connector head out of the way. The only gripe I have is that the metal is very smooth and sometimes hard to grip to disconnect. It would have been great if the body was ribbed to provide a bit more grip.
These are relatively more expensive than some of the others but I think they are worth it. Cable Matters is a good brand. So, I did not hesitate to buy them.
TLDR;
Tactile feel : Metal. Very nice
Port fit : Just right
Compatibility observed: Up to thunderbolt 3 (40Gbps)
Build quality : Solid
Details:
I use one of these with a phone to angle the charging cable. The phone serves as a digital clock. Charging is no problem.
I use the other one with my Caldigit TS3 Plus dock and a HP Zbook Fury. The cable is thunderbolt 3. The adapter works the same as when I connect the cable directly to the laptop. I give it at least a passing grade here.
These are sturdy and make a solid connection. Keeps from bending cords at the receiving point. Lots of my cords wear out at the juncture where they plug in. Good value
I just installed this right-angle thunderbolt adapter, and it is doing exactly what I wanted.
It looks so much sleeker than the USB-C power cable sticking horizontally out of the side of my Dell XPS 15. The downward force of the cable is no longer creating that twisting tension inside the port, meaning it will last longer.
There is no loss of charging power (i.e. no low-power warnings), and I’m still getting about 320Mbps data speed from my LAN, which is what it is supposed to be. I’m very glad I purchased this little device.
I’ve been using this for a couple months now to link a Thunderbolt 4 cable from my MacBook Pro to a 4K monitor. Charges fine, no problems transmitting data even though it’s not certified Thunderbolt 4. Haven’t had any issues. I’ll edit this review if I do.
Exzellent and they work as advertised. I can now use the USB C hub I bought from Amazon due to the fact the USB plug is a little too short to connect with a protective case on the iPad. All of the functions work and high speed charging speed and up and downloading is excellent. I highly recommend these connectors.
Using this to connect to my Thunderbolt 3 and 4 laptops (Lenovo and Apple). Have experienced no issues with data transfer nor power transfer. Build quality feels great, and the connection to the laptop feels secure. They could maybe be a bit smaller and round out the sharp edges, but really nit picking. I wouldn’t call these a bargain, but wouldn’t hesitate to purchase again due to the consistent performance.
Consistency in quality of their product is a hallmark of this manufacturer. Have come to trust there designs and construction and use of materials.
Make sure you understand the “orientation” of the adapter – L or R, up or dow
Works great for charging devices and I have an LG 4K display connected from a Macbook Pro via a one of these as well. Takes the stress off the cable nicely in tight spaces.
These do what they claim. There’s a number of other options out there but these were the smallest/sleekest, especially for the sideways one, so I gave them a try.
They plug in really tight, both on the male end going into your device, and the female end accepting a cable/device. This can be really nice since you don’t want adapters like this to be loose or flimsy. On the other hand they can be tough to remove. The female side is a bit more forgiving, so I imagine if you accidentally snagged a cable, it would pull out cleanly on that end.
I don’t really have anything that can push the power and data rates to the max, but did confirm they work up to 10Gbps and ~35W. No reason to believe they’d have any issues reaching the advertised rates of 40Gbps/240W. I don’t have any USB-C displays, so couldn’t test that.
I used an external USB-C NVMe drive/enclosure to test the data throughput. I had a lot of problems getting the drive to show up when using either adapter. It would detect the drive but sometimes throw errors (a device which does not exist was specified) when trying to access it. Ultimately it did show up and speeds were the same both with and without the adapter, but it was concerning that it took so long to get it to work. Had the problem on two different computers, and always worked fine without the adapter. Maybe it was something else, but it didn’t seem that way. I don’t plan on using these for any type of external drive so it doesn’t concern me, but figured it was worth mentioning.
All other devices I tried this with – power input for laptop and a phone, mouse/keyboard/headset, simple thumb drives, etc – worked just fine. Same goes for a USB-C hub with other devices then plugged into that.
Overall I’m pleased with these. Besides the issues with the external NVME drive, they did everything else I expected, exactly as advertised. They’re compact and look good. They’re also very snug for a secure connection.
