In fact both my children. 6 and 8 love this, very educational , with quizzes and games about what they have learnt. They also love the feature of looking at your own things under microscope, like insects and leaves, coins ,anything that fits in the slide!
Bought this for our kid when they turned 5, the included “smart” slides are great, there’s a bunch of really cool stuff here. The microscope itself is reasonably good, I wish there was a bit more fine control on the focus, perhaps another gear ratio meaning more turns but finer control. I’ve watched my kid overshoot the focus several times and had to tell him to back.
I’d have loved a couple more real slides included, I guess you can buy your own real ones, but some extra in the box would have been nice.
We’ve looked at some pretty interesting things with it – a penny, some wool, kinetic sand, etc. All very interesting under the microscope.
One thing to note, this isn’t powerful enough to see bacteria etc. For that you’ll need a much much more powerful microscope.
Lovely toy for ealry scientist kid. There is 3 E’s in this toy Educational, Exploring and Entertaining to play with. The quality was great knowing that it is made by leap frog. This toy is battery operated needs 4 AA batteries. Highly recommended.

Great toy for curious minds. My son is very curious about how things work and what they are made of. This is used as more of a novely toy than an actual microscope however it’s still very educational and encourages a whole lot of exploring and promts many other questions and ideas.
Great you for kids, something a little different and also very educational.
A little pricey however would recommend.
Another great quality toy from leap frog. Comes well presented in a colourful cardboard with a cut out front so the microscope is on full display. It requires 4 aa batteries which are included, so it can be played with straight away upon opening. 9 smart slides are included in the box. Theres also 2 reusable slides, for you to add your own samples and specimens and view it up close. The microscope itself is of a really good size, not too small at all. Easy for children to use with a reasonably good size 2.4 inch colourful screen for viewing and interaction. Accessible buttons to use and navigate. A large twist dial to zoom in and out your slides and objects, with up to 200x magnification. Theres a flat part on the base to put bigger objects on and get a good look at them. The microscope has built in games to play, videos to watch, fun facts and challenges to keep children engaged and occupied, rather than just look at an object and that’s the end of it. You’re able to take pictures, like a screen shot, of what you’re looking at on the screen and can be stored in its built in memory. You can insert a microsd card to expand its storage, which you can then hold 100s of images. A great toy/learning aid to teach children about the world around them, learning something new and interesting, feeding inquisitive minds. We really like this, fun and engaging with alot to do, more than just games to play and slides to view, the reusable slides are great, so they can find their own things that interest them and see it up close to find out more. Perfect for children with curious minds, they will definitely get alot of enjoyment out of it.
Our youngest son (5) is insect and bug mad. Everywhere we go he always goes out searching for a mini-beast of some description. We got this little microscope for him to explore his love all things natural; and it didn’t disappoint. Packed with features ready to go out of the box, including games and curated video content. The smart slides are a cool feature, allowing him the opportunity to quickly flit between topics as kids that age often do. The screen is of decent quality, good for interaction with the core topics of the toy, but as an actual microscope the magnification is good, but is a little let down by the resolution of the image on the screen.
Battery life is OK, he got a couple of days out of the ones shipped, we fitted with rechargeables in the end to ensure continued play. Great for our five year old, a little pricey at the time of review (80) but he keeps going back to it with ‘samples’ he’s found in the garden. If you have a budding David Attenborough in your family, this item is sure not to disappoint.
