This “S Type Bracket Holder With Bowens Mount” (Model No. CRB1) arrives in a plain looking, Neewer branded, cardboard box. Inside is the bracket itself, along with an instruction manual.

Like a lot of Neewer’s products, the bracket feels reasonably well made, with a good finish throughout. This bracket does use a lot of plastic though, so how robust it will be in the long run is hard to tell. However, an all metal design would probably end up being quite heavy and cumbersome.

The various adjusting screws work well without any issues. The bracket can be mounted either vertically or horizontally on a standard light stand receiver. The handle style locking nut allows you to rotate the bracket through 180 in order to angle your light how you would like.

A combination of two removable mounting plates and a locking screw on the top, allows you to attach a variety of different shaped flashes, speedlights and strobes to the bracket. I had no issues attaching my flashes from Godox, Sony and Neewer, and they all held pretty securely in place.

The front of the bracket is a standard Bowens S-type mount, which allows you to attach any compatible light modifier to it. This allows you access to a wide range of modifiers that would otherwise not be accessible to you using a speedlight. In practice this worked well and I had no issues with any of the softboxes or reflectors I attached.

The bracket also has a 9mm umbrella holder that allows you use an umbrella light modifier with it. This is the only slight niggle I have with the bracket. This holder just uses friction to hold the umbrella in place rather than having a locking mechanism. And whilst it does the job, personally I would prefer the ability to lock the umbrella in place, even if it is just for peace of mind.

All in all though, this is a well made S-Type bracket holder, that works well and allows you to get even more out of your various flashes.

This is the most significant update tot he s type bracket. I know for my other models I have lost all the insets so they are all now the same size. Adding the hing really increases the functionality of the bracket. All in all it’s a worthwhile upgrade.

    PROS
-holds both my rectangular and round head speedlights securely (I love how easy it is to swap between round and rectangular heads, very clever design)
-versatile, it’s good that I can mate my speedlights and s-mount modifiers so easily
-can mount to a lighting stand both vertically and horizontally
    -solid and durable plastic
-at 40.99 and a 20% voucher at the time of this review, it offers pretty good value.

    CONS
-locking mechanism for my bowens-mount modifiers is a little wiggly (it would inspire more confidence if this slid along its track more solidly)
-a little bulky, I have a similar product from another manufacturer isn’t as heavy or bulky (e.g. top knob that tightens down on a speed light: that could have been a much shorter cloverleaf shaped knob, saving space, and offering a better grip).
-I prefer my umbrellas to be held with more than just a friction mount, a little tightening bolt would be better there.

    NOTES
-I think this is a great piece of versatile kit that is solid, and well made. I’m glad I got it.

    MY STAR RATINGS:
    1* substandard, mostly cons
2** barely acceptable, cons outweigh the pros
3*** meets the basic requirements, cons balance the pros
4**** good product, pros outweigh the cons
5***** exceptional, all (or almost all) pros

This is a very versatile mounting plate for attaching lights to a lighting rig, such as an umbrella or soft box via the standard Bowens mount. I used it to fix a high wattage LED cob light onto an umbrella, but it could be used for many other things, with the swing out type extra brackets. It is extremely well-made of aluminium and feels very solid and durable to me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid, durable and very versatile mounting bracket - a nice piece of kit!

This bracket holds my speedlights (one at a time) and works just like my Godox version, except that the removable parts at the bottom of the ring swing out. That means you don’t have to keep track of them and won’t lose them, so that’s cool.

Now I can use my Bowens modifiers with one more speedlight, so it can join in on the fun with my studio flashes!

I do kinda wish the post were longer, so it’d be easy to handhold. It’s too short for that if you have any weight on it. But when I want to use a bracket setup handheld, I end up using a monopod with a spigot adapter on top, so that works okay if you’re not just using a light stand.

I have a little concern about how hardy the plastic pieces are if you’re going to throw it around, but I’m not really concerned for studio use. Fortunately, these aren’t pricey if there’s an issue.

Just like Godox, but harder to lose pieces

From the fine Neewer range, comes another excellent accessory. This is a mount for a Bowens flash head, made out of high quality alloy and engineered with fine tolerances. A top quality product, highly recommended.

This S type bracket holder offers stability, precision, and flexibility when positioning your speedlite.

Its design allows for the attachment of various studio light modifiers and accessories via the Bowens mount, enabling you to customize and improve the quality of light for your photography needs.

Featuring two movable mounting plates controlled by a top locking knob, this holder accommodates different types of speedlites, including both square and round head flashes. This flexibility allows for horizontal or vertical mounting, catering to diverse shooting angles or setups.

One of its standout features is the stepless tilt and secure mount. This functionality permits smooth and continuous tilting adjustments, ensuring you can precisely direct and control the angle of the light. Additionally, the secure mount feature provides stability, preventing sudden shifts or movements during use.

Overall, the S bracket holder is a great addition to a photographer’s toolkit.

This is typical of Neewer quality. It’s well made and feels like a solid product.

It’s easy to use and everything clamps in securely. I have Godox V860ii flashes and they fit snugly.

The type of diffuser/reflector etc. that you use on the front will control the light, obviously, but even a fairly generous sized one is held securely. I have a 36″ octabox that fits on securely. Recommended and well worth 5 stars.

I’ve recently been adding lighting to my studio kit as I’m doing more indoor video and photography. This being the case, I picked up this Bowens mount bracket holder so that I could use my Canon speedlight with a diffuser. This item works perfectly. Upon opening the package I was quite impressed with the solid feel and weight of the bracket. The Bowens mount fit my softbox very well and locked into place firmly. It also mounted on my light stand well. It was super easy to open the bracket and fit my speedlight into it and it all worked like a charm. I’m very happy I picked up this item and expect to be using it quite a bit.

The good is this does work with multiple different lights and I used it with an old Nikon speedlight. It worked fine and held the light securely on a light stand. So it does what it says it will do and thats great. My bad is that its very plastic and 3/4 of the parts are made of plastic. So if you need this for a light that is in a small studio that is not going to be packed a lot for location shoots then this will probably work for quite a while but from experience with so much plastic this will not last me long being thrown into a location kit and getting banged around a lot. If you are one of those photographers that has a padded compartment for every item in your kit (I secretly hate you) then you will be fine but I’m the guy that throws his gear in his kit at the end of the shoot to get out asap and I know from experience this thing is not going to last too long. As for the functioning as I said before this thing is great and totally worth it if you need a way to put lights that normally can’t connect to a softbox of umbrella.

I have maybe a half dozen different S brackets in my lighting bin. Some of them work with my round head strobes, some don’t, some of them work with my Neewer Q3 strobes (similar to Godox ad200) some don’t.
I tried this one out with all my different strobes and it worked with each of them. It’s also built better than most of the S brackets I have. The tightening knob is solid and easy to grip. The mounting knob tightens down well on the stand, and the angle adjustment has a good feel as well. This bracket has two spacers that can be opened up out of the way when not needed. With both spacers out of the way, this could fit a very large round-head strobe. The spacers stay attached, so you’re not going to lose them.
I attached a bowens mount soft box and it engaged and disengaged simply fine.
If you have several different types of strobes you need to use with S brackets, I think you can’t go wrong with this one from Neewer.

A better designed S Type Bracke

It’s well made and really is robust for square and round head flashes. It’s lightweight and portable, easy to carry, not saying in pockets, but could be easily put inside a bag.

High quality and the material is amazing, I can feel the weight and quality, not heavy but high quality. 180 front and back adjustment is done with the enlarged metal handle, precisely at desired angles.

    It’s versatile, to say compatible with with Godox V1 V860II V860III TT685II TT600 TT350 AD200 Pro NEEWER Z2 Z1 Z760 NW760 NW700 NW620 NW600 NW635II NW645II NW420 TT560 Q3 Q200, etc.

    I recommend it.

I’ve come to love the NEEWER brand photography products.
I got this to fit on light posts to secure either a godox 860ii speedlight, or a godox ad200 unit. Both secure tightly without any concern.

I am unable to check to see what other type of lights may or may not fit, as I am still starting off in photography and experimenting in battery powered portable flash.

This mount also was able to fit my existing godox softbox. Can’t wait to get out there and get shooting!

    Strong, durable Bracke
