I give my husband a Rokr kit every Christmas. He has previously completed, and loved, the merry-go-round and the marble run. Today he finished the clock and is over the moon! The instructions have to be followed extremely accurately and there is plenty of challenge but in a way that adds interest, not causes frustration. Now it is done he cannot keep his eyes off it! Which kit will it be next Christmas, I wonder?
Had fun putting the model together. I’d not made any before, found the instructions easy to follow, all the pieces were cut accurately. It was very satisfying to have a working clock at the end.
Bought for my daughters christmas, so dissapointed it never came packaged of any sort, just handed the actual item with a sticker on. And as it was handed to the daughter in question then it is no longer a surprise, gutted.
I like it but very difficult small pieces easy break thin wood I’m lot breaking wood difficult inside put altogether part woods so when you put Part wood altogether very carefully Very easy break it and very hard not easy make film altogether.
Bought for my brother in laws birthday, he has boundless patience with puzzles and I’m sure he’ll enjoy doing it. Arrived promptly and pleased to say with no extra useless packaging!
Haven’t even finished creating the model yet but already looks great on my mantle piece ! It’s very fun to build and is tricky at some points which makes it a challenge. Highly recommend!
I buy my grandad these, keeps his brain ticking over, he said this 1 was more tricky then the owl boat etc, which for me is a good thing as he’s pretty good at building.
Overall, 1 of the more tricky 1s which can be good or bad depends what you wa
Bought this for a gift for my parent, loved it! Not only was it challenging it was a fun and exciting for family members to view. great for people who have great attention to detail and love making things from scratch. Great quality! And was shocked that it projected so well!
I am 65 years old and, naturally, my eyesight isn’t what it was. I had to photograph some of the instructions and enlarge the images to see the detail.
The instructional videos are helpful.
Once made it is a thing of beauty.
Bought to keep my husband busy, trouble is he enjoyed it so much he did it in a day! Looks good, he needs to tinker with it to make the pendulum going but he will do it.
This is the second kit I have tried from ROKR and the quality is awesome. Well designed and easy to assemble. This one doesn’t require glue or batteries and took around 3hrs to assemble. I will definitely be buying more.
This is great fun to put together, really good quality, but a part without spares has broken. A few more spares in the box would be handy. Can I have a replacement piece sent to me?
I buy my father one of these construction sets every birthday & christmas & he loves them. He sets aside time & works on it for a day or so. He loves them & has them displayed at home!
Taking some of the wooden pieces out of the main frame snapped them because the laser hadn’t cut right through in some areas so after taking them out and gluing them I managed to assemble it and it works pretty well
Beautiful puzzle. Works really well. Bought 2 as birthday gifts for adults in their 30s. Great puzzle for adults and older children. Would recommend. Great to have and see it working.
Following the clear instructions very carefully, it took me approximately 8 hours to assemble. Pay special attention to the positions of the plastic shaft collars as mistakes can require extensive disassembly to correct errors.
After some “tuning” of gear positions and collar spacings, the clock ran well initially and freed up with time, achieving a consistent run eventually for 6 hours between winds. Although waxing the escapement several times helped it to run well, spraying the whole thing lightly with dry silicone really helped it run freely.
I bought this as a present for my very bored son in law during covid19 lockdown.
So far he has opened the box, and very happy with what he sees, and looking forward to starting..
I will update when he shows me the finished product.
Finished piece all in working order, happy son in law. Thank you
This was bought for Christmas for father in law who likes to do projects and jigsaw puzzles. The question regarding the ease of this was not really appropriate for this item. The whole idea of this puzzle was for the difficulty factor, so to give the right info, this puzzle is numbered on each part but that does not make it easy in any way what so ever and that was the whole point. Arrived in time undamaged and great value for money and entertainment value too. Highly recommend for those that don’t get too stressed out lol
It was a gift for my son, he loved it, kept him occupied for a good number of hours. It does work as a clock but the spring winding mechanism does not keep it going very long, maybe only 3 to 4 hours. If your thinking of using it as a clock then don’t bothe, a good kit to put together and a nice ornamental talking point. Gave my son plenty of pleasure and satisfaction.
Some hints, so you don’t go postal (and the instructions don;t say it…)
1. The metals axis holding the gears can turn, if you don’t apply enough pressure while putting the yellow rings in place. Those are the very imprtant parts of the assembly. The position of the yellow plastic rings and the pressure will hold the gears in the right place and won;t let the rotate separately form the axis. Don’t even think about lubricating the metal parts!!!
2. I recommend starting with assembling the jigs. These are parts are named like T1-1 and 2, T2-1 up to T2-8 and T3.
3. At the end, be sure the escapament wheel is aligned. In my case is wasn’t and the gear train stucked. After slight adjustment it worker perfectly.
4. I applied some grease on the gears. Less friction, less noise. Especially those, which spin fast.
5. Is something does not work, remove the pendulum. At his moment, the gear train starts to accelerate and turn fast. If this does not happen, something is misaligned. Maybe the axles got out of the holes.
6. The top of the assembly with the wood rods is trash. Also, if tyou tighten too much, it will apply extra force on the gears and the gears may stop spinning. Took me a while to figure out. Look at the frame from the top and the sides, it should be parallel / perpendicular.
7. Don’t buy it for little kids. This is not LEGO. For me it took about 4-5 hours to assemble, but I am an engineer. For others it may took longer. If you are a pro DYI guy, you can finish it in 2-3 hours.
I enjoyed this a lot, would do it again.
The pictures really don’t do this justice, it’s beautiful and incredibly intricate. I bought it for my partner’s dad who said it was great fun to build and all fit together very well without problems. It’s even been allowed on the mantelpiece it looks so good!
13 year old made this without any problem. Dad kept an eye on him to make sure cog spacing etc was correct and the result is a beautiful fully working clock which he is very proud of. Learns them that accuracy is important to get the clock working. Take time and you’ll get the right result. May buy more similar items.
“the models are outlined with a laser cutter on a plywood board.Hand crafted by the finest master craftsmen using only time-honored traditional methods and techniques ”
That would be a traditional laser cutter, then?
Despite that howler, it is an excellent kit, too bad it doesn’t fly
