Love these lights. They are perfect for my studio to light up the things I’m working on. Love all the different lighting options they have. They feel very high quality and worth every penny.
This review is for the Edge LED desk lamp by LitONES (Model F-618). The lamp’s headline feature is that it produces bright, diffuse light, which means light is evenly emitted from the panel’s entire surface instead of coming from a point source. Diffuse light is more even than traditional sources and helps reduce glare and shadows, making it easier on the eyes. The light has a softening effect which is beneficial for video calls, product photography, etc. The lamp also has a high CRI rating (>95), meaning color rendition should be excellent, though they don’t specify at what color temperature. I suspect it’s at 3000K since it’s harder to achieve 97+ CRI at 5000K at this price point.
The lamp has a touch-sensitive interface near the base for switching between three pre-determined color temperatures, stepped brightness adjustment, and a self-timer function. In terms of installation, the LitONES lamp uses a clamp that opens up to ~2.25 inches. The swingarm features a modern, minimalistic design. While the joints are smooth but stiff, I didn’t see an obvious way to adjust them should they loosen down the road.
The lamp is practical, versatile, and suits my WFH and product photography needs. It’s probably going to be small for drafting purposes (not enough reach) if you have a large desk. In terms of value, at the time of review, the price was nearly $100, which is too much. The current ~$60 price is more reasonable.
Notes:
1) Several details in the item’s description need to be corrected. The lamp does not have any USB-related capabilities. The power input is a regular DC jack (24V @ 0.75A) with no USB charger outputs. The plug is a wall-wart type.
2) Compared to other 15W lamps, the light output of the LitONES lamp is a bit lower. This is expected, however, since having a high CRI tends to make LED lamps less efficient.
I work a lot of the time from home and I am on a lot of Zoom meetings. My office space is sometimes a little darker and this is great for the extra lighting I need on my calls. The light is soft and not too bright. I did, however, have a hard time attaching it to my desk, but this is because of the setup of my desk. I have shelves on both sides so did a workaround. The brightness is adjustable. It does have an adapter that plugs into the wall, so make sure you never lose that. Might be hard to find a replacement (only real complaint).
I love this lamp! It is very bright, and the tones can be changed to your preference. There are 5 controls on the light, on, up & down to change brightness level, color, & timer. There are 3 different temperature tones and the light has 10 brightness settings from very dim to very bright. The clamp is great for a basic table. Keep in mind that there is not much space within the clamp, so if you do not have just a basic desk/table without any siding or skirting, this will not clamp on to it. I love the amount of maneuverability, it reminds me of a light at the dentist office with how easy it flips and moves around.
Here’s a great, modern LED desk lamp with an articulating arm that allows you to position the light pretty much anywhere you need it. You can easily clamp it to the edge of your desk with its padded clamp, and it stays put. This is a great lamp for working on things at your desk, like taking things apart and/or taking photos of them. I often repair computer stuff and various household gadgets, so this light is perfect for that. It produces a soft, bright light, and with its articulating arm stays out of my way.
The lamp has “soft touch” controls, so no physical buttons. You adjust the brightness using the “+” and “-” controls. There’s a total of 10 brightness settings. It does a nice brightness ramp up and down when it’s powered on or off. A nice feature is the power button is illuminated while it’s off so you can see it in the dark. It also has an auto shutoff feature that will turn the lamp off after either 30 or 60 minutes (selectable).
The color temperature (the warmness or coolness of the color) is variable in 3 settings: 3000K, 4500K and 6500K, which means the lamp is using two separate banks of LEDs and powering them at different intensities to mix the color for the 4500K setting. This is a typical feature of LED desk lamps, although I usually just stick to the lowest (3000K, warm white) setting.
The included manual states the lamp uses 84 individual LEDs, half of which will be 3000K and the other half 6500K.
The lamp draws 15W, which for LED lighting is pretty bright. If it really does draw 15W (I wasn’t able to test it), then that’s bright even with the color mixing it’s doing between banks of LEDs. The power adapter is 24V instead of the more common 12V. So, don’t mistakenly plug the included power adapter into one of your desktop hard drives by mistake.
This is a nice, versatile lamp and I really like it! Highly recommended!
Very nice desk mounted LED soft light.
This light produces a very nice, even, soft light.
The desk mounted adjustable arm has a nice sleek design that has lots of flexibility.
The quality of this light and adjustable arm seems to be better than most LED desk lights I’ve used.
The LED light does not seem to flicker, some LED lights cause the camera on my smartphone to go crazy, this light doesn’t.
The light comes packaged well in a nice, reusable box with adequate protection.
The light is adjustable with 10 steps from dim to very bright and has 3 color temperature modes.
It would be nice if the adjustments had a more gradual transition for easier brightness and color matching.
The controls for the light are located near the base of the adjustable arm.
The power button is lit when the light is off.
Unfortunately, none of the other buttons light up and the power button light goes off when the main light is on.
Once the main light is turned on, it’s very hard to see the buttons, depending on the brightness or angle of the light and buttons.
A remote control would be nice to have, not just because the buttons can be hard to see, but also depending on the way your desk may be set-up or the way the lamp is mounted, the buttons on the arm may not be easy to reach.
I noticed that the included power adapter seems to be 24 volt, so this light is not USB nor is it a more standard 12 volt.
If you lose or need to replace the adapter, it might be a little more difficult than normal to located the correct one.
Just some things to be aware of and plan for.
Overall I like this light.
Despite some of the limitations I mentioned, I think it’s well built, functions well, provides a good quality nonflickering light that is very useful for many tasks, hobbies, reading and for use with Zoom or streaming online.
Depending on your needs, there may be less expensive options, but for those who want a quality LED desk light with some higher-end styling, this light might be for you.
The light and adjustable arm are well-made and durable. The light has a diffuse cover which spreads the light about nicely and can be adjusted in 10 different steps to reach the right level of illumination needed for the task. Additionally, there are three color temperatures that can be set as well. There is also a two setting timer on the unit that allows the light to be automatically turned off in 30 or 60 minutes. While having the controls mounted on the base of the arm itself can be desirable as it makes the unit very self-contained, if you are very far away that is further than the reach of your arm and using it for video filming, chances are you are going to have to move around somewhat to reach the base of the unit to make adjustments. My only other substantive area of slight dissatisfaction is that it requires a dedicated charger and plug. Perhaps I have become spoiled with how many of these types of items out there can utilize an existing US B-C type attachment and existing cables. Having a number of dedicated charging units around seems cumbersome when so many items are moving towards a standard plug.
This is a good, large metal desk lamp that has swivels at every joint so you have a wide range of positioning possibilities.
I happened to have a Zoom meeting scheduled for later in the afternoon of the day it arrived, so I started playing with the light immediately.
My first challenge: the clamp didn’t fit on the edge of my desk. It’s got a rather large clamp mechanism, and the designer apparently assumed it would go on the edge of a table with no skirt, or a desk with a skirt that’s set back far from the edge. My desk has a wide skirt that’s close to the edge, which leaves a narrow edge on which to accommodate a clamp. So the lamp just flopped over as I tried to adjust it. I solved this immediate problem by swiveling the bottom so that the clamp was perpendicular to the desk, and set it on the desk top on the side of the metal bracket that holds the clamp. But since the lamp wasn’t designed to sit that way, it was top heavy and still wanted to tip over. I stuck a couple of ankle weights on the clamp mechanism to hold it steady. Problem solved.
Next, since I had some time before my meeting, I fiddled with the positioning. I found that the light was most flattering if positioned behind my screen, so it wouldn’t cast shadows. It was also more flattering if pointed right at my face, but then I wouldn’t be able to see anything clearly other than the light, so I tilted it down almost but not quite parallel to the desktop, angled ever so slightly toward my face.
Next, I played with the controls. For my skin tone, I liked the middle degree of warmth and the middle range of brightness best. Ready to Zoom!
While it’s a fine lamp overall, it loses a star for a clamping mechanism that’s not going to be compatible with a wide enough range of desks, and for having no way to position the lamp without using the clamp mechanism (and, in my case, some ankle weights). But if your desk edge can accommodate it, you’ll like the lamp for more than just Zooming. It’s got a range of options that make it very useful.
