Great smart plug . Easy to set up and use. Have purchased several of these and I love setting laps etc to them to come on when I ask (with Alexa). No problemseven when a power cut.
This is what you want in a smart device. Connected straight away and both the whole unit and the individual sockets showed up immediately in Alexa.
Of note, although it is quite clear in the description, is that all four USB sockets are controlled as one. You can’t turn them on and off individually, like you can with the three pin sockets.
Works perfectly with Alexa and allows me to control various items in the house by voice command / Alexa app or via the manufacturer app. A simple click is heard when turning off and on with a led light (which can be turned off) to reassure you it’s on or off. A lot cheaper then other brands out there and works perfectly fine without compromising.
After using Alexa for the last four years and finding the app confusing and not user friendly at all I decided to move to Apple home. This purchase was my first of the new matter plugs and set up was super easy and the reaction time is excellent. I have subsequently purchased some other Meross HomeKit equipment and everything so far has been excellent. Shame they don’t appear to do a presence sensor which is next on the list to trigger two sets of lights
Arrived on time, quick to set up and easily controled from phone. Only small issue, plug is too large to fit into an outside socket so not been able to use with car charger which is what I wanted them for. have found other uses though 🙂
I got three plugs. All three were set up and running via the Meross app in less than 10 minutes. Then connected all to Alexa, renamed them for the functions, on both Alexa and Meross.
Superb, great price too.
Not the first smart plug I’ve had, but this one was for a relative who was struggling after an operation. Set up in 2 mins and they’re now able to turn on the lamp using Alexa. Timer is handy while it’s still dark in the mornings too.
All in all a great product at a great price.
There are lots of smart plugs on the market, but Meross are IMO the best, such great quality and they come with power data so you know just how much, power you are using. I love all Meross products as you know they are quality just like Anker products, you don’t need to worry look else where, or worry about customer care or quality They are the bes
I bought this to use with some lighting etc in my bedroom. I am running it on home assitant using a conbee II and it works really well. The usb slots are controlled as one switch (ie. all or nothing) which is fine.
I am replacing it in the bedroom because it has incredibly bright led light indicators which are affecting my sleep. I will use it elsewhere in the house as it is very useful functionally but this was a big negative for me.
I bought these smart plugs due to the nice slimline size. I needed them to be on an extension lead and other smart plugs are quite wide and overhang so 2 could not fit side by side but these are perfect next to each other. Hope that helps if anyone needs to use them on an extension.
They work well as smart plugs using the melrose app available in the app store for Android phones.
Took a bit of figuring out initially, but once I knew what I was doing (and connecting to the correct wifi network), all went well.
They’re handy little plugs. I can turn them on and off in multiple ways: 1) manually using the switch on the side 2) by asking Alexa 3) using the Meross app on my phone 4) Using the Meross app on my Apple Watch! Also in the iPhone app, there’s a way of setting up “Routines” which allow you turn the plug into a timer.
Recommended.
So glad I have these. Easy to set up and not bulky. I intend to buy more when on sale to replace ones that are twice the size. This brand gets great reviews and are a good price.
Reviewed Jan 2024:
We’ve 3 of these.. A 4 gang version in the shed, and a couple of the 6 gang versions that are in the house.
The shed one is connected to a motion detector and internal and external cameras, the idea being that if there are connection problems with those devices, I can reboot them from the power strip. To be fair, I’ve not yet had to do this, but I’m a little paranoid about stuff getting pinched.
In the house, one is on my desk, so PC, monitors, powered USB hub and the other one is in the bedroom, powering AppleTV, TV, soundbar, etc. I bought both of these because they were on sale around black Friday and they replaced cheap power strips that did not have individual switches per gang (yet along the ability to control them remotely).
As I’m typing this review, I’m asking myself if I really need these to be connected and remotely controlled…. Perhaps I will want to shut them down at the power source if I’m away for a long period of timne, maybe I’ll be saving a tiny amount of standby power if I was to power them down from a day to day perspective, but so far, I’ve not been motivated to do this.
Away from the use, what I can say…
Setting them up and getting them connected was really easy.. Note I’m using Apple homekit, and for me, the QR scanning code rarely works during setup, this might be as a result of my antique iPhone. But setting them up in the Meross app was relatively straight forward.
TIP: Keep the box so you know exactly what item you are setting up in the Meross app, as there are several model numbers to choose from.
Nice and compact, seem to be of good quality. Fairly straightforward to set up. Using three to control Christmas lights and two of the plugs have needed a few resets but seem to be calming down now. So very useful and nice not to be sliding on my belly to get to the tree lights so worth the pond reset; Id buy again.
Had some trouble getting this to link either with apple homekit method or with the Miross app. Eventually figured out that it didn’t like my 2.4Ghz/5Ghz access point, had to disable the 5Ghz temporarily for it to connect. Think there is a mention of this in the troubleshooting steps, but a bit strange you have to do this. Also found that if you power it off eg. to move it, you have to disable 5Ghz again otherwise stays in the fast flashing mode and doesn’t reconnect to Wi-Fi . I’ve used it with Alexa to schedule on/off routines as I don’t have an Apple Homepod for the HomeKit route, seems to be working fine.
Operationally the unit appears to be fully functional and I found it easy to set up. Concerned about possible longer term failure of the 6 plug sockets. At first I thought I had a dodgy 13 Amp plug, but I tried several and all were difficult to insert and remove; to the extent that I was expecting to see broken plastic. Bottom line is – OK so far. Should not really need to plug and unplug with remote control of switching function.
I bought a twin pack. I have an Echo Studio acting as my hub. The plugs seemed to register fine via the QR codes, Bluetooth and my WiFi. However I found one stopped responding. Trying to reset and register it again failed as it kept asking for my WiFi password unlike the first time. I then discovered when it did work one plug kept replacing the other. After contacting support they solved the problem saying there was an issue between the plugs and the Echo Studio. Their very clear illustrated solution sent by email worked perfectly. Repeating the reset operation on both plugs including unplugging them in between and resetting my echo studio was the nub of the solution. Great support.
Have only had this set up for a few days thus far. Setup was easy enough, my only issue was concerning Alexa integration (I had one of the plugs hooked up to the TV, which I named TV the in Meross app + HomeKit — except Alexa was confusing the smart switch TV socket with actual TV’s, which are added to Alexa if you have a FireStick hooked up to them and go through the equipment control process, long story short had to delete those first to get this to work – not the fault of Meross, only adding this on the off chance someone has a similar issue).
Connectivity is good (although I can’t judge for certain because mine is next-door to my Eero), though some might struggle setting it up if they’re not splitting their WiFi bands or if they don’t know how to temporarily pause 5Ghz — it might still work without doing so, but it’s a hell of a lot easier to ensure that 5Ghz is paused beforehand. The only issue with these sometimes is that through the Meross app sometimes it doesn’t “update” it’s correct status, though it’s not really an issue for me as I’ll only be using this via Siri (via HomeKit) and Alexa.
I’ll update this review if I run into any further issues etc.
I bought these for our CCTV cameras that have a habit of disconnecting from our wireless network. A quick reboot and everything’s fully functional again. Each camera does this, on average, every one to two days.
As we’re going away for a few days over Xmas, I wanted a way to reboot the cameras over t’internet. Did sa bit of research and found this set of 4 for a reasonable price. The big thing is that they don’t need a smart hub (Alexa, Google etc.).
Received them yesterday and set them up today. After downloading the app, it was simple to hook them up to our home wifi and then distribute them around the camera power supplies. It took literally 2 minutes to set up each plug, update the firmware and rename it with the camera locations.
I am now able to be confident that the app will reboot the cameras every day (by scheduling in the app) and ensure that all cameras are recording (virtually) 24/7.
I’m OK with technology, but found these simple enough to set up by anybody. I haven’t explored the app fully, but there may be more useful features lurking in it. If you have difficulty setting them up, as long as the plugs aren’t faulty, it may well be your wifi strength, or something like that, as the whole set of 4 were done in way under 10 minutes and that was including renaming and putting them where they needed to be used.
No hesitation in giving 5 stars, as they caused me much less grief than I was expcting i.e. none at all!!!
Some IoT devices come with awful apps. Not here. These smart plugs have a great and easy install process. Download the Meross app and follow the steps for a quick 60 second deployment.
For Alexa users, there is 1-click integration. Ditto for Google.
The app remembers your Wi-Fi details making further plug setup a breeze. These plugs remember their settings when unplugged and used elsewhere.
My only criticism is the Wi-Fi isn’t super strong on these. Despite one awkwardly placed plug saying it’s at 50% signal strength I’ve had no issue with it.
I would buy more if I had more devices that needed remote control.
I use smartthings and have been using home automation devices for years. This was perhaps the easiest smart device I’ve ever setup. It took two minutes out of the box, open the Smartthings app, scan a QR code and a minute later it was all working.
I have removed a star though as despite the description and promoting this as a matter first device the power monitoring is NOT supported over matter you have to use the Meross app for this feature. This isn’t really Meross’ fault as it is not yet supported by matter however you would never know that from the product description.
Just bought 10 of these to replace my Kasa sockets that tp-link have decided not to support, their loss as I will never buy anything from tp-link as they could have OTA updated their sockets but decided not to.
Reading the reviews, many good folk are making hard work of pairing these meross sockets as all you need to do is scan the QR code on the side of the meross socket (each one has its own sticker) then watch as it pairs automatically. All the main players (SmartThings, Google assistant, HomeKit etc..) are able to scan a QR code to add a matter device, there is no need to for any extra steps that some folk are adding probaly out of habit from the old way of adding devices. Just scan & wait – thats it.
So I added mine via the SmartThings app, I dont want the meross app, all works brilliantly without the meross app. I added a matter device, scanned the code and waited 30 secs for the pairing to complete.
But I want voice commands via Google Assistant, so now that you have your socket added in SmartThings you can drill down into the socket, click the three dots and select `Share with other services` which will connect the device to G-assistant (or other services you have connected with). You have to give the socket its name again, It would have been nice to import the name from SmartThings but its a minor annoyance, then your socket will appear in G-Assistant under devices & you can voice control it with the name you gave it!
Meross are first to market with these sockets, I paid ~ 15 each and they have power moitoring so im happy with that but we can expect the price to fall.
The whole process was simple and effortless, please dont feel the need to add extra steps from the days of old, just add matter -> scan the qr code and wait.
I recommend these sockets, they work locally and are responsive (I can see the speed difference when using smart buttons to toggle them) my older kasa cloud sockets have to do an internet roundtrip to toggle, these little beuts are local & super fast.
Meross, well done for getting there first, im a fan & will be buying more.
This is another well made and reliable Meross product that I am very happy with but it won’t suit everyone!
I would have preferred a single row of 6 sockets than this configuration but Meross don’t make one like that. Consequently, I had to make up a mounting board to accept the 4 mounting points on the rear of this extension then bolt this under my desk where I wanted it.
My criteria is to have a single mains lead connected to the wall socket so that my desk can be moved for maintenance and cleaning (without pulling anything off my desk or having to unplug six items). The supplied (fixed) lead is long enough for this.
Socket spacing is just enough for my plugs and adapters but they are very close. Also, if you have an adapter that faces the opposite way to the one shown in my first image it’s going to block one of the outlets.
I had no problem adding this to HomeKit, Alexa and the Meross app. My WiFi router is on the other side of a solid wall and this extension is under my desk so I am pleased with the 78% signal strength as shown in the Meross app image.
Everything works as it should and I would therefore rate it as 5 stars but YMMV.
INITIAL EXPERIENCE: I spent 90 minutes with Amazon Alexa customer support but could not connect to Alexa. Tried all 4 plugs.
Will send them back immediately. Alexa support was pretty useless too.
UPDATE: Couldn’t access a printer for the return label, but in the interval I googled Alexa-Meross issues. I found an entry that said when in Alexa to go to ‘Skills and Games’ (in the ‘More’ command at bottom). Type in ‘Meross skills’ and then select Disable Skill.
WARNING: It will disable all of your existing Meross items and they will need setting up again from scratch. But I was prepared to do this and then my 4 new plugs linked to Alexa very easily and trouble free. Only one had an issue but I rebooted that in Meross and then Alexa found it.
So, now that Meross has been relinked, they are working fine and I have upgraded my one star to 4 stars. But the customer service at Alexa still gets one star as they should have told me to do this simple step in the 90 mins I spent on the phone.
Good, works and had plenty of plugs. The app is well lade out, has all the basic features one would expect, and other than 2 problems mentioned below works well. Setting up Google home worked quickly and easily.
Now the downsides:
The initial setup failed about 5 times before eventually working (the device was about a foot away from me and about 5 feet from the wifi access point so none of those are reasons why.
There is no way to individually turn the plugs on and off other than the app or a voice assistant. Only a switch to turn them all off or on. Other smart power stripes I’ve used have a button for each plug.
If it loses WiFi then it needs to be reset and reconfigured (with the very buggy process to do that.)
The app sometimes fails to correctly read the on/off status of an indivual plug if it has been changed buy a different app or device or by schedules within the meroos app and this works fine but the app won’t recognise the change. For example I have a the app scheduled to turn my electric heater for my work room off after 20 mins, and this works correctly, but the app will still show the plug is on even after closing the app, a refresh button that works would be nice.
I was waiting for this 6-outlet power strip for a while, as Meross is the only company that produces power strips with HomeKit integration for the UK market. In summary, works as expected, with easy integration with HomeKit.
Positive points:
Installation was dead easy, you just scan the HomeKit code with a HomeKit compatible device (e.g an iPhone) and you are ready to go. You don’t really need the Meross app, apart from updating the firmware of the strip, or if you want also to install the strip with another home automation system (e.g Alexa).
You can control through the Home App on iPhone or the Meross App, each outlet individually, and the 4 USB ports as a group. Also, the size of the strip was smaller than I’ve anticipated, it looks larger in the photos.
Also, what I’ve liked is that the power strip comes back to power immediately, after a power cut, and you don’t have to go looking for the power button, as it happens with other power strips.
So far works flawlessly and I’m pretty happy about it.
Negative points,
Two reasons why I’m giving it 4-stars:
1. the WiFi reception of the strip is somehow anemic, affecting sometimes the response of the strip on the WiFi commands. Ideally, you need to have a wifi repeater pretty close to the strip, in order to maximize its efficiency. Evidently, it doesn’t help the fact that usually power strips are hidden behind desks, or inside cable-tidy boxes, etc, but this should have been anticipated.
2. The second issue, and more important, is that the outlets are very close to each other, with limited clearance between them. That means if you have a power plug that is a bit odd-shaped or one of these power plugs that are also a power supply, you may have a bit of trouble fitting them in. Even normal plugs are touching when are fitted next to each other. Finally, the sockets are quite tight, you need to apply some force to fully sit a plug. This may be a safety feature, but it is not mentioned in the manual or somewhere.
Overall, pretty happy with the power strip, works as advertised, and it is great for desk use. Maybe in the future consider controlling each USB independently and add power consumption monitoring.
This is the first HomeKit power strip to come the UK and it doesn’t disappoint!
Other companies have made strips for the US and EU and left the UK out! Yet again Meross has beat them to market and made a far superior product that costs considerably less. Other brands are producing home kit power strips that are twice the price and are not even available in the UK. Well done Meross for finding this spot in the market.
I was looking for something to smart control three sets of garden lights though Apple HomeKit. My lights are currently powered through to my garage on independent switches and are not smart. I wanted to smart control them via Apple Home and Siri without the need to buy three independent bulky and expensive home kit plugs.
The extra plug that this extension has will be an added bonus when I put up Christmas decorations.
With this single extension I have freed up precious wall plugs and gained the ability to set independent timers on each of my garden lights. An added benefit to security with the ability to control the strip remotely.
The strip sets up in minutes through Apple Home via a 2.4ghz Wifi connection and is controlled effortlessly with Siri on my iPhone and Apple Watch. There is no hub or extra devices to purchase to get this device to work.
The power strip also has a long high quality 6ft power cord and has overload protection.
The strip is big but not bulky and it has four nicely spaced plugs on the strip which can be controlled individually on the app or via voice commands via Siri, Google Home and Alexa. There are also 4 USB ports which are controllable together as one again though Siri, Google Home and Alexa. I can see this being useful for some USB fairly lights in the future.
The single button switch located on the strip controls all the plugs on or off. Some may say this is a downfall of the strip as it prevents independent control but I would argue that you are mainly going to be controlling this strip through Siri and this is a precautionary measure to turn off all your devices in case of an emergency.
One thing that this power strip does no have that many new strips are starting to get is Wifi Energy monitoring. For my intended purpose this is not really necessary but would be a cool feature to add to the next generation of this power strip – I would have no hesitation buying an Meross energy monitoring version of this power strip if it came ever came to the market.
This strip is pricey but when you consider the value proposition and the home kit support it a real bargain.
It is essentially 4 home kit plugs all combined on a nice high quality power strip with the added bonus of having 4 USB plugs that are controllable via HomeKit as well.
I would highly recommend this item to anyone looking for a home kit strip and to anyone looking at buying independent plugs – by paying the extra now you may save buying lots of plugs in the future.
