Having tried roll-up jigsaw tubes before and been unimpressed I was keen to give this board a go.
After trying it out I can honestly say I’m impressed and will be using it for every jigsaw from now on to keep the coffee table free (when normally it’s taken up until the jigsaw is finished).
The board is sized well for most standard 1000-piece jigsaws (and below) and comes with 6 sorting trays that are poppered together flat pieces of felt – a bit niche and I’m not sure I’ll be using them too much but a nice little addition nonetheless.
The board is sturdy enough and the felt is obviously stickier that just using a table – which has it’s pros and cons – keeps pieces in place if you’ve got the board off vertical slightly (tilted) but is also harder to move pieces around on the surface compared to a hard, flat surface like a table.
The cover portion could be a bit more secure – a few pegs may be useful too if you’ve got some to hand to make sure as the velcro (rtm) isn’t that great but it does it’s job and if you keep the board relatively flat your pieces should remain intact.
Pleased with the new board overall. The item I received is not currently available for sale but there is an equivalent selling for 29.99 with an 8% voucher too and at that price it’s recommended from me.
If you’re partial to trying to solve a large jigsaw puzzle, this is going to be a must have. It provides a flat and stable surface to assemble the pieces and comes with a protective cover to keep everything I place should you not be able to finish.
The material is rigid and durable and being flat is easy to store under chairs, on cupboards, anywhere you need to keep it out of sight.
The felt (?) piece holders are good to seperate out different pieces but also make for fantastic dice rolling containers for dnd sessions.
This is a good puzzle board for doing jigsaws, easily fitting up to 1000 piece puzzles. The felt material stops pieces from sliding around, although this is best stored flat, as I found that lifted vertically some pieces will fall. I really like that this has lines to make out each size of jigsaw, including round jigsaw puzzles. The included trays are really great – they can be stored flat, and the little poppers allow you to turn these into secure trays to hold pieces. I like that each is a different colour so you can remember which pieces are in which tray, or colour code them to people if you’re working together on a puzzle.
The cover keeps everything clean and safe, and stops pieces from getting lost when not in use. This slides easily underneath my sofa so it’s out of the way when not in use, and it’s light enough to easily move to any area of the house if you’re having to carry it over to a table. Really good board for keen jigsaw puzzlers!
What I liked
There’s markings on the board so you know where to line your edge pieces based on jigsaw size – this is great as a guide
Tidy sturdy feeling board
The slip on cover fits with ease and protects the jigsaw when you move it (keeping it flat)and sleeps everything today
The see through cover lets you see your work in progress and tempt you back
There’s small piece of felt you can clip together to hold pieces
What didn’t work for me
The jigsaw piece holders are great but there’s not enough surface area for all the pieces of a large jigsaw (1000 piece in my photos) if you’re like me and like to see them all laid out.
While I’m confident moving it flat the cover is slightly loose so I would t feel safe tilting it much, but that’s the same with any jigsaw board.
All in all it’s a really tidy way to protect a jigsaw, it’s good quality and the line feature is good for a guidence, although a little out size wise with my 1000 piece it’d depend on the make and size of the pieces as some are bigger than others Boards that fit inside and can be stored on top (like those I have) would be better than the felt cards.
If you do a lot of jigsaws withs certainly worth getting a board and this is a good one, especially for the price
Having received two new puzzles for Christmas I was keen to see how well this Jigsaw Board and cover would perform. I decided to do a 1000 piece puzzle first to check for fit on the board. As can be seen from my photos, it only just fits with little space around the edges. Nevertheless it holds the pieces in place quite well and is rigid enough to move it from one surface to another without disturbing it – great if you’re using a dining table and need to free up the space.
I particularly like the felt trays that are easily assembled with press studs and are perfect for sorting different areas of the puzzle. They would also be useful when the family is working jointly on a puzzle and each person wants to keep their own little store of pieces for the area they are working on. But as others have remarked, when the package arrives these felt trays create little bumps in the clear plastic cover which rather spoil the product so some thought needs to be given about packaging them differently.
I’ve also provided a photo of the partially completed puzzle with its cover on for temporary storage. I have to admit I found it quite fiddly trying to slip the cover on (there are corner tabs and Velcro strips along each side) without disturbing the pieces on the puzzle. A corner piece came away . I think this is a two-person job. That said, the cover is brilliant if you have cats that think a new jigsaw puzzle is the perfect place for a prolonged nap!
When not in use the board itself is quite sizeable so you need to think about where it can be stored. Obviously it can be stood on its end so a built-in cupboard or wardrobe is probably the best place – under the sofa or bed is all very well except we all know how dust and fluff accumulates in such places! Mine will go into the wardrobe when not in use.
Price-wise it’s not cheap, but I think any dedicated jigsaw buff would appreciate such a present for the little touches like the felt boxes and the cover. Mine will see plenty of use.
I think most people who do jigsaws must be familiar with the common scenario of getting to a vital part in the puzle and then having to move everything because the table you’re using is needed . I’ve had a roll-up jigsaw board in the past for this purpose which struggled to find somewhere safe to put it as it was bulky, so ended up abandoning jigsaws for a while, but when I saw this it looked perfect to slip underneath the sofa or to stand vertically out of the way.
At 32″ by 22, this board is fairly sturdy with a felt covering and markings to show the layout for different sized jigsaws, (it takes up to 1000 piece puzzles). There are 6 jigsaw sorting containers included, which are squares of felt which form into baskets by corner poppers – these you can assemble/dissemble to suit and are a really good idea to make it easier to sort your pieces.
The board has a removable transparent vinyl cover which is waterproof and will keep the dust off when your puzzle is being stored. It has corner pieces that fit over the corners of the board and velcro sides to hold the cover taut against your puzzle. These are supposed to stick to the underside of the board, but I can’t get them to stick very well at the moment.
The piece sorters were also inside the cover, which left indentations in the vinyl and has also stretched it a little in places and I’m not sure yet whether this will affect its ability to keep the puzzle safe if stored vertically.
The jigsaw pieces stick well to the felt and its fine stored flat, but I’m unsure whether if I can’t get the velcro sides to stick down properlynhow well this will work if stored upright. I haven’t done enough of the jigsaw to properly test that yet, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it will work.
I like the idea of this board’s design but I’m just not sure as to the fitting of the cover and how detrimental this will be to its effectiveness.
There are so many reasons for a 5* review. The board is lightweight, so easy to move.
The felt mat keeps the jigsaw pieces in place, even when moving. I held it vertically and the majority of pieces stayed place. Had the jigsaw been more complete I should imagine it would have been even more secure.
The white dotted guide lines are really useful.
The dust cover is robust, with braided corners and strong Velcro fastenings, making it easy to slip it over the board and securely fastened it down on the reverse. (The cover was a little static when I first used it and a couple of loose pieces stuck to it, but the completed jigsaw was fine)
The puzzle sorting trays, which clip together are really handy, for constructing parts of the jigsaw as well as sorting. They can also be stored flat underneath the cover when not in use or stacked.
It slides easily underneath our low level settee, on a carpeted floor, so there is no risk of mislaying pieces because of the dust cover.
In our excitement to use the mat, and because we received a jigsaw at Christmas, it was only when we started to put the jigsaw together did we realise the board wasn’t big enough! although it is 1000 piece jigsaw, it’s obviously bigger than we thought and I should have checked before we started! It wouldn’t be an issue with a standard size 500/1000 piece jigsaw.
On reviewing my photographs, I noticed imprints from the sorting mats had been left on the dust cover. I don’t think it will be an issue and may smooth out in time. I only noticed them on the photographs and isn’t an issue for me.
Comparing it to other jigsaw boards, I would say it is good value for money.
I’m glad the jigsaw isn’t as big as the box it arrived in though!! It was huge, with lots of empty space. Perhaps this is something which should be considered in the future.
Good size, not floppy easily slides under sofa when not being worked on. Also has a cover to keep all prices in place. One criticism be prepared for huge packaging, the box I received was twice the length of the mat and you could have got at least a dozen mats in the box.
