As a first-time photographer, I was unfamiliar with using a flash. This works with Nikon for TTL right out of the box. Using flash will make a change to your photos that you did not know was needed even in direct sunlight. I would buy this again.

I have a long history with Neewer lights. I accumulated a few Neewer speedlites over the years, starting with two TT560 manual flashes years ago, my first off camera flash. I had to use it in S mode and keep walking around changing the settings but I learned a lot with those flashes and still have them. I got two NW-625 speedlites as an upgrade to the TT560, even though the only real upgrade was a higher GN and being able to adjust the power in 1/3 increments. I then got two Neewer q-600n studio lights that are very powerful and I still have them, but they also need to be adjusted individually and require an on camera trigger to use remotely. Recently I made a big upgrade to the Neewer Q4 lights and the Q-n trigger. That was a game changer. And the NW-655n is almost a game changer for me too, seeming too good to be true with being able to be used as an on camera flash with TTL, able to be used with the Q-n trigger, and also can function as a master trigger for other flashes in the Q system.

ALMOST too good to be true, because on my Nikon z7ii the TTL does not work. When it’s on camera it can only be used in manual mode, and that is the biggest dissapointment because that was the one function that was a huge upgrade for me vs the other speedlites I have from Neewer. The manual says you can download firmware for it, but there are no updates available (yet?) on the Neewer website. Now the TTL DOES work with my old Nikon D200, so I can at leadt use that function once in a while with my old camera.

Where it shines and does add value for me is in working well with the wireless Q system. It functions well with the Q-n trigger, and TTL does work when it’s off camera and being used through the trigger.

It also works as a master flash when it’s on camera, but only in manual mode for BOTH the flash itself and the up to 3 flashes connected through it. I do like the convenience of being able to adjust the Q4 flashes from one place like with the Q-n trigger, but if you put the other flash in TTL it just fires on full always. The manual mode works well in 1/3 stop increments for this flash and any connected to it, but only from 1/1 to 1/128 (while the Q4 stops down to 1/256). So it’s nice for that in general, but not when you’re still stuck in manual for everything when I’m using my Z7ii.

HSS works when on camera and through the Q-n trigger, but it’s not something I would use often.

Things I did not test are rear-curtain synch, and the S1/2 modes. I don’t use rear-currtain synch pretty much ever, and the S1/2 has worked on every speedlite from Neewer, plus I don’t need it anymore now that I have the Q-n trigger (I would just use this for the main off-xcamera flash and put the TT560s and NW-625s in S mode).

In the end, this is an EXCELLENT flash for Nikon DSLR cameras, and an OKAY manual flash for the Nikon mirrorless line of cameras. If a firmware update comes that makes TTL work both on camera and with flashes connected to it wirelessly I would give it 5 stars, but for me it’s been a huge disappointment that TTL doesn’t work with my main camera.

Amazing powerful flash with more than enough flash in the majority of situations you are likely to need flash. I bought two of these along with the Neewer Q-pro flash trigger. Bought a couple of softboxes and stands and have a decent set up. Wouldn’t hesitate to buy this flash if you not sure.

Powerful and fast, very well manufactured and that it is HSS is super. I can take photos above 200 in shutter speed which allows me to take sharper photos with faster shutters. The battery life in these cases will depend on the quality. The manufacturer’s batteries have very good materials, I love them and their prices are very good.

This flash is so powerful and has many advanced features like TTL and HSS, which you usually only see on more expensive hardware… very compact, and it’s not a power hunger.

Pretty good alternative to the Sony flashes. I’ve been using it with my A7III and it works really well. Complete with TTL, manual and multi modes, I’ve tested it mainly as a master flash and I’m really satisfied with its performance. Great quality.

This flash speedlite is a photographer’s dream. Its powerful and versatile features bring out the best in every shot. The battery efficiency and fast recycling time ensure I never miss a moment.

Soft velvety dust cover and no ubiquitous diffuser immediately let you know this is a budget option. Nothing is cheap feeling although I do think a quick lock versus the long twist (budget one) should be there. It all works. I already have the Q Pro trigger and this works flawlessly with that but if you don’t need that you will need to check that the cheaper triggers work. For on-camera usage, this seems to also pair flawlessly with my EOS200D and EOSRP. TTL I find plain handy and even HSS has its place on these for me. Throw in a wide zoom. No TCM (TTL-Manual button) but that’s not a realistic expectation even close to this value point. Travelling I am usually happier using Manual/FEL anyway and I can use a light meter. It takes AA batts and that’s just fine for my travel light requirement. The head adjusts over a wide range and is not flimsy. If it ever got lost I can move on quickly. In ”My World” this meets all my requirements – YMMV

I like this flash! It’s a bargain for a reasonably powerful on-camera TTL flash. I use it with a Canon EOS R10 and a Canon EOS R7. I have found it to be consistent with exposure and it has worked well with the rechargeable Lithium Ion AA batteries I’ve been using with it. (The Lithium Ion AA batteries I have are rated at 1.5V, unlike the rechargeable NiMH AA batteries I have had that are rated at 1.2V. I haven’t tested them with the NiMH batteries.)

There are a couple of places that Neewer cut corners to reduce the cost of the flash. First, the build quality is good but the battery compartment door seems like it might be a bit less durable that my other flash units (Godox brand). Second, this is the first flash I’ve owned (and I’ve been doing photography for 40+ years) that doesn’t have a battery level indicator. It will only let you know when the battery level is low. Until that point, you get no indication of how much battery life is left. This is something to be aware of when you are shooting an event. The last area they reduced cost with is there isn’t the typical padded case for it. Instead, there is a velveteen cloth bag. It will keep the flash from getting scratched up but it won’t provide any protection for it.

These minor quibbles aside, this is an excellent flash for the money. It will serve me well.

A Nice Bargain Flash Without A Lot of Frills

If you want to expand your DSLR photo capabilities, dramatically, a dedicated flash, mounted on the hotshoe or a setup as a “slave” off camera, this piece of equipment (or equivalent) is a complete game changer.

If you want to travel this road but don’t have the budget for a brand name Nikon, Canon or Sony etc… THIS is a GREAT place to start. This Neewer NW600 has all the basics that are needed (diffuser, softbox, satellite stand etc..) and it provides them at less than half the price of the big brand names. I have the Canon 600 EX RT flash and although there are a few differences, generally speaking, the Neewer holds up well against the OEM Canon. Controls, modes and settings are easily set and used with clear instructions in the owners manual.

With 3 flash seperate flash modes and 8 different levels of flash output, this flash provides plenty of adjustability.

The flash head has a tilt range of -7 to up 120 and pans from -180 to 180. This is what you need to “bounce” your flash effectively.

There is a built in reflector and diffuser that can easily be extended or retracted back into the flash head. This is a handy feature.

As well as working straight off of your DSLR’s hotshoe, this flash also works well as a “slave” or “satellite” unit when used with a “master” capable.

Despite being a very capable flash, it has a simple set of controls and a very shallow learning curve. Not only is this flash price accessible but it is a fantastic starting point for people that want to expand or rediscover the infinitely superior world or DSLR photography. Phones are good but there is no comparison. Adding a dedicated flash is one of the biggest upgrades that you can make without spending a massive wad of cash. The Neewer NW600 makes that move, even easier to afford.

Well featured, easy to use, well appointed with accessories, broadly capable and well made at a price that defies all of the above, this is a solid buy in my opinion.

    Another great Neewer product.

    Definitely recommended.

I Ordered this without carefully reading the description as it was late. I have had many Neewer products and have nearly always found them to be good products, so when I saw the words Speedlite Compatible I assumed it was compatible with a Canon Speedlite.

On arrival, I relised I should spend more time reading, and less on impulse, as it was compatible with Sony cameras. So, I cannot comment on how well it works, but on the assumed functionality.

The build quality is impressive, this seems easily as well made as my Canon Speedlite flash. The functionality list is impressive to me, but then I am an amateur photographer so whether this would suit a professional I cannot say. I liked that it has the built in 2.4G Wireless Q System, as I would imagine that could be a bonus.

It is a shame that it doesn’t use rechargeable batteries, but it isn’t a game changer, my Canon Speedlite uses 4 AA batteries, and that has never caused a problem. Overall, for the money, 95.99, it seems a pretty robust item.

It works really well and the build quality is great. Responds perfectly in TTL mode. Recycle time is very quick except at full power, but that’s to be expected. Nice clear screen and simple enough controls if you’ve used flashes before.

Compared to the cost of a Nikon branded unit this looks like a bargain.

It allows to easily increase the brightness of my shots.
This flash is powerful and has an intuitive mode dial that makes it easy to use and set up.
The vertical and horizontal adjustment capability ensures brilliant and bright results in different environments.
Allows me to illuminate the subject in a creative way by reflecting the light on walls/ceilings, or by shooting remotely.
I felt very comfortable using it.

The Neewer NW655 Speedlite is a good performing and budget friendly speedlite for Sony cameras. The build quality is good and even though my Sony RX1 full-frame mirrorless camera is not listed as a compatible model, the NW655 appears to be work fine. Securing the Multi Interface Shoe to camera involves screwing down the clamp, instead of a quick slide lock. While this was fine, it came awfully close to the mode dial on my RX1. The NW655 is quite powerful speedlite with a guide number of 60. It provides TTL support but can support manual, multi-flash modes, using as a slave and support for Wireless Q system. The flash head can be tilted to 90 degrees and panned between 0 and 270 degrees for bouncing flash in portrait. The NW655 takes 4 AA batteries (not included) and is rated to deliver 230 flashes using 2500mAh NiMH batteries. The control is fairly intuitive and easy to use and the green backlight is useful in lower light situations.

I found in TTL mode with my RX1, my looked natural and it was easy to adjust the flash compensation as needed. Powering on only took a couple of seconds before speedlite was ready for use. Recycling time was quite good as well. Compared to my Sony HVL-43M speedlite, the NW665 is larger in dimensions and is more powerful (GN60 vs GN43). The build quality of the NW655 can’t match the Sony’s and the quick release hot shoe mount is much easier to use on Sony. The NW655 delivers a colour temperature of 5600K, which is similar to the Sony’s. Overall, the Neewer NW655 is a good quality and much cheaper option for a speedlite for your Sony Camera. Recommended for those who don’t want to speed a premium for an official Sony speedlite.

I am new to advanced photography & have just started classes, I have a Nikon D5200. This flash covers all the features you will need, Nikon TTL (Through The Lens) automatic metering so the camera controls the flash unit, manual and multi. It has a built in diffuser and reflector and it automatically detects when you pull them out and adjusts automatically. In TTL you can still adjust the output if you want. It can wirelessly trigger 2 additional flashes, a feature I was not able to test, but I did test slave mode where it is triggered by the cameras built in flash. I have just started my photography journey, but just toying around with it with what little knowledge I have has resulted in some fantastic pictures over the built in flash.

This flash has so many features it’s going to take me a while to learn how to use it to it’s fullest, but…
You won’t get a whole lot of help from the manual. It is translated so poorly and has so many omissions that will will be left laughing and scratching your head, but with a little experimentation it starts to make sense. What is that USB port for???? My best guess is a firmware update.

I have a few other Neewer items and was happy with them, but this flash really impresses me. A similar Nikon flash is 3-5x the price of this unit, I doubt you could find a used one at this price.

Overall an excellent flash unit at an amazing price, build quality is excellent.
I am extremely happy with with this unit.

This Speedlite impresses with its sturdy build and versatile functionality. Compatible with my Canon EOS RP, it produces decent results. However, it faces challenges in achieving even light spread while bouncing off a popcorn ceiling in ETTL mode. Overall, a valuable addition to my photography gear with reliable performance and quality construction.

The NEEWER NW655-C TTL Flash Speedlite has become an essential companion for my Canon DSLR photography, elevating my lighting game to new heights. This speedlite is a testament to NEEWER’s commitment to quality, offering a range of features that cater to both amateur enthusiasts and seasoned professionals.

The TTL compatibility with Canon DSLRs is a key highlight. The seamless integration ensures accurate and automatic flash exposure, allowing for consistent and well-exposed shots. This feature is a game-changer for those who prefer to focus on composition rather than intricate flash settings.

With a Guide Number (GN) of 60, the NW655-C delivers powerful and balanced lighting. Whether shooting portraits, events, or creative setups, the flash’s output is more than capable of meeting various lighting demands. The High-Speed Sync (HSS) capability up to 1/8000s allows for creative control, especially in challenging lighting conditions.

The flash recycling time of 0.1-2.6 seconds ensures that you never miss a crucial moment. The quick recycle time is invaluable, particularly in fast-paced shooting scenarios. It strikes a balance between rapid-fire shooting and maintaining consistent flash output.

The ability to deliver 230 full-power flashes on a single set of AA batteries is impressive. This not only reduces the need for frequent battery changes but also makes the NW655-C a reliable companion for extended photo sessions. The convenience of AA batteries, which are widely available, adds to the flash’s practicality.

The 2.4G wireless transmission technology opens up possibilities for off-camera flash setups. The ability to control multiple speedlites remotely provides creative flexibility, allowing you to experiment with various lighting setups and angles.

The build quality is sturdy, and the interface is user-friendly. The control layout is intuitive, making it accessible for photographers of all levels. The rotating head and bounce functionality further enhance the versatility of the flash, enabling you to sculpt light according to your creative vision.

In conclusion, the NEEWER NW655-C TTL Flash Speedlite is a powerhouse of features that delivers exceptional performance for Canon DSLR users. Whether you’re a hobbyist exploring flash photography or a professional seeking reliable and versatile lighting, this speedlite is an investment that pays off in the quality of your images. Highly recommended for anyone looking to master the art of lighting in photography!

This is a powerful flash, and it allows an easy introduction into the 2.4G wirless control.

The flash functionality is generally intuitive, and you get it to operate it easily. It is even easier from the camera menus as it is integrated perfectly. The camera menu looks to be generic, so some options may show, but do nothing, there are 23 C.Fn, but only 6 on the flash, similar for the 2.4Ghz option, groups D and E shows, but always stay disabled, while a Qpro would work with these groups.

Where the menu gets less intuitive is for the wireless setup. The Z1 and the 665 all have a dedicated button to activate wireless. The (now obsolete) 420 uses the long press sync, but there is an icon for that under the button, and this is all that is needed. This flash uses the long press mode button to change to wireless mode, which is different from the other Neewer flash I own. Having different menu operations is one thing, but having people to remember that this specific model uses the mode button while another one uses a different button is a nonsense in terms of usability, and a simple logo would have done the job. When I opened the flash, I thought there was an error, as I could not even identify the flash as being wireless. Little detail, but big impact, I’ll create a small label and affix in case I forget.

I did test the GN, around 64@100mm and 52@20. It is not clear if the crop factor is considered, but with my M50 I can shoot with the flash at longer focal length than the lens and get decent results. In automatic mode, the flash follows the zoom lens. The crop factor is something that I have seen on Godox flash for Olympus, but not on Neewer models, at least for Canon, I’m not sure there would be a big gain, maybe 1/3 stop maximum.

As a general note, this is a good flash, not too expensive, with enough power. As all battery operated flashes, the recycle time is longer than a flash with Li-On, but it comes with a high voltage input. This is a good choice overall, and as i’m a fan of the wireless trigger and wireless control, I strongly recommend this as a good starter.
