SMALLRIG V Mount Battery VB99 Pro 6700mAh 99Wh 14.8V V-Mount Battery Support 100W PD USB-C Fast Charger, with D-TAP, Dual USB-C, Dual DC Port, USB-A, for Camera, Camcorder, Monitor, Filmmaker – 4292
Good battery, very well made and good quality. This is my first mount battery it lasted all weekend using it with my Nikon D3300. Its easy to charge and basically plug and play. A bit expensive but it make the difference. Thank you
I have a few V-mounts which I mostly usenfor powering COB lights. They are big and need things like Dtap cables. I was excited ti try a more modern option.
The battery itself is pretty small for a V-mount. There is an LED screen in the outside to see the remaining percentage but also things like how long is remaining until the battery dies, which is handy. And it’s dynamic- if you plug in different items, it adjusts.
Speaking if which, there are different ports (Dtap, 12V DC out, 8V DC out, USB-A, and 2x USB-C ports, one of which is bi-directional).
You can have multiple items plugged in at once, and you also seem to be able to charge it whilst also drawing power from it it which is handy to squeeze even more out of it.
Note, you only get a single USB-C to USB-C cable in the box. It’s a nice braided one but you don’t get any other cables at all.
Overall its a nice small battery that stands out because of its versatility of voltages and ports which still remaining portable. Its not super cheap but easy to recommend
Versatile connectivity on a V mount battery pack makes this a mainstay for my camera kit bag.
When shooting video this can be mounted on a video light, and provide power with no worry for a shoot. It can also help if a gimbal needs a little extra hit of power.
It’s really nicely made, and isn’t too heavy, sits on the various v mount holders on my lights, and tripod mounts with no problems.
Not the cheapest, but it is quality.
The Smallrig VB99 vmount battery is a versatile V-Mount battery with 6700mAh of capacity. It weights in just under 700grams. It’s a flexible battery offering multiple charging options including dtap or usb-c. The VB99 takes advantage of high-power USB-C power sources, charging up at 16v/ 5a from my power bank for 80w of charging. I think this is a great advantage over older dtap only batteries — if you are around a high power dtap charger use it — but a good USB-C wall charger can potentially charge two batteries at once; and is much more compact than my dtap power brick. Using USB-C also needs less kit in my bag’ I always carry a few USB-C cables and most of my other kit charges up from usb-c too.
Regardless of the charging source the screen shows a clear display of the state of the battery charge and lets you know which of the various outputs are discharging when its charged. When charging there is an accurate time estimate to charging being complete. When using a high-power source, the battery does get warm whilst charging.
Power output the flexibility continues; you can run use the vmount port and the BP ports will power your device happily. I have used it in a loop for the last few days running a large LED fill light for the last few days. The screen on the battery shows the drain as 69Watts (the panel of the light says it’s a 70w light, so the meter is accurate.) I found the VB99 lasted about 2 1/4 hours constant running on that light. One thing that was a little worrying is I let it drain (forgot to turn it off at lunch) and when I came back the light was off but every minute or two it lit back up for a few seconds. The battery doesn’t have a good low power cut off so keep an eye out for it being completely flat to save its longevity. The light runtime is on the higher end for my vmount– if you are shooting off grid this will keep a low power camera rig going for a long while.
If the battery is flat when you need it, you can use the light in an adhoc UPS mode charging and running at the same time; just make sure your input power is greater than the output. Running the light and charging from the same wall adaptor; it added an hour to the charge time which is a good compromise.
Besides the vmount port the battery gives you an 8- and 12-volt DC connector; a pair of USB-C’s and a usb-a. Total output is limited to 100watts; I could run the light and power a camera via a usb-c cable at the same time. The batteries usb sockets all sit behind a weather flap.
When in use the screen is usually off; there is a button on the side that will let you check the status. The manual says the screen face is scratch resistant; time will tell on that. That and the low power cut off are my only real concerns; that aside it’s a robust well-made battery. Its priced on the high end; but part of the price is paying for the connector flexibility and the rest for the high power 100w max output.

Quality product and user ability options
This is a very expensive power bank however it has pro level features which make it ideal for a high end video recording setup.
The d-tap output works very well with dummy camera batteries for high end DSLR and mirrorless cameras. The usb c PD provides fast charging of the battery as well as being able to power a range of devices such as gimbals and monitors. The additional usb outputs mean it can also power several additional devices such as wireless transmitters and microphones.
The v mount is very versatile for mounting on tripods and provides a very secure mount. The battery is heavy but this is to be expected for the capacity.
The capacity is enough for nearly all day shooting with a mirrorless camera and means no anxiety about running out of battery mid shoot.
