Having placed a Creme Brulee under the grill recently to caramelise the sugar on top – and melted the lot – then a few quid for one of these seems a good investment. Very easy to use, a nice wide base to stand it on, and a very effective hot flame which looks more like a fighter jet’s afterburner…. Highly recommended; don’t forget that you will also need a canister of butane gas/lighter refill to fuel it up first.
After watching the reviews, I don’t have a high expectation. But when I received and opened the box, I found the gun is stylish and fully functional without any troubles. The flames is steady and hot in blue. Although I’ve put in one injection, it can last longer than my expectation. So I give a thumb up for this purchase.
An economical but good looking purchase. Fills from a standard butane fuel can as used for lighters. So far I have only used it to ignite the brandy on the Christmas pudding – it did not disappoint!!
Compact, adjustable “flame” control and easy to operate.
Butane refill much easier than buying screw in “canisters”.
It’s also useful for other applications as well so multiple uses.
For the money it’s very good value.
Good things. It works perfectly every time. It’s relatively stable standing on the base. Easy to fill. Doesn’t seem to use a lot of gas. Hot, single flame, sufficient to do some small silver soldering. Great for lighting fireworks with too. Didn’t fail in wind and rain!
The not quite so good things are that the small almost needle flame is difficult to brle with.
The flame adjustment is almost non existent. Full or not quite so full.
Depends what your use is. For me. Very good.
Can’t comment on durability as I haven’t had it long. But see no reason so far, that it will let me down.
I’ve always wanted one of these but never truly needed one but being as i cook on electric, it’s often hard to get those lovely little charred bits on things like chicken and ribs.
This arrived yesterday and I have to say, pleasantly surprised by the quality, I was expecting something flimsy but this is actually a weighty item, and feels quality. Easy to operate with a single push of the thumb and highly manoeuvrable!
The trigger can be locked by simply sliding the switch on the top to stop those pesky kids burning down your kitchen or melting their face off. The flame is adjustable with the 3 setting slide switch and actually does make a difference. The torch uses butane and can be bought here on Amazon or any shop that sells cigarette lighters and is filled easily on the bottom. It even includes a pack of nozzles just in case the butane can you buy doesn’t have the right nozzle.
So, does it work? Yes in a word or the long answer, like a dream. I immediately set to making tandoori chicken legs and delighted in burning the yogurt/spice marinade to a lovely charred finish, not only looking more authentic but just adds to the flavour. I would have posted a pic but was to busy eating it to be honest 😛
Well worth the money.
