Easy to connect to the Tapo H100 hub with the Tapo app then in turn add to Apple HomeKit via Matter supported on the hub despite not actually stating it will work with Apple HomeKit. Also works with Alexa and Google home.

Simple to add new switches and sponsors etc and connects straight to connected Apple HomeKit, Alexa and Google Home

I wanted a TP Link smart switch and needed this Hub in order to connect the switch to WiFi.
The Hub installed easily, I did that first before I set up the Switch.
I am now considering getting a motion sensor to turn on the light automatically when I go into my garage. The sensor will also need the Hub in order to connect.
Apparently the Hub will also work as a chime, but I don’t need that function at the moment, so I turned the volume to minimum.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersTapo are really on top of their game with this system. All you need to change your home is this cheap little box. You can then add sensors for temperature and humidity, motion sensors and add buttons to create events, add light switches that make your bulbs smart, etc, etc. Took me a while to find the right way to make a smart home but this is another great product from Tapo that uses long lasting cheap batteries in tiny sensors that relay back to this hub and into your wifi and Alexa.
All shows in one Tapo app along with your cameras and plugs and other Tapo products.
I trigger lights when we walk-in, monitor temperatures around the house (can set alerts if they go too high), switch off unused lights and many more functions. Adding Alexa means you can set up silly things like make Alexa say someone is in your hall or has opened a cupboard. The possibilities are endless.
What I also love is that Tapo have been around a while and will hopefully not leave us all in the lurch one day. They are very active with updating their apps and improving performance. (I have no shares in Tapo :). Love it!

Doorbell is very good but ringer is tied to the hub. Although this is classed as a hub, it can be allocated as a repeat ringer. So you can put it anywhere in the house, so long as it has a WiFi connection. Brilliant and cheap.

I have this installed, and it allows me to view the Tapo temperature and humidity sensors on my phone. I’m effectively using these as thermostats and to control my dehumidifiers, so reliability is crucial.

It’s been a few months since installing and I have had no connections issues at all.

Installation was super simple via the app.

For the price as well it’s very good.

Works well with many automation options for Tapo devices. Price is very reasonable when on offer. I have two to extend the device area covered but it is possible to automate actions on the other hub even though It is not possible to connect devices to two hubs simultaneously.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersPlease note these will not work with CCTV, as they require the H200, but for general Lights door sensors etc they work fine. Nive little sound when doors are open etc. great value if your venturing in to home automation with Tapo.

Functionally this is very capable, my minor gripe is the user interface for setting up automation tasks, which seems to offer several ways to configure the same functions, but not all work or provide all available features. The support team were easy to contact and the advice was very helpful, so I’m very happy with what we purchased overall.

I purchased this Tapo Smart Hub as I needed the hub to interface with my Tapo Remote Smart Dimmer Switches. It generates its own network to communicate with the Remote Smart Dimmer. I was not interested in the Chime function. If you follow the Tapo instructions it is very easy to set up and the remote dimmer switches worked well.

Unfortunately I have not used some of the additionally features such as the chime however I purchased this as a hub for my Tapo smart switches and for that it works perfectly. Great purchase and worth the money

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersUsed alongside a Tapo light switch and smart button to replace one in an inconvenient location. The switch replaced the old dumb light switch and works perfectly. With the button now activating the switch from a much more convenient location it has saved me a job of relocating the original light switch. Very easy to set up and use.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersThis device works very well. Very easy to set up and rock solid in stability. But it’s 2023 we live in the era of IP6, it shouldn’t be necessary to use hubs of any sort now. I may be a bit bias, I bought a TP-Link temperature and humidity sensor. Only to discover I need this hub after it arrived. I didn’t read the description properly. Totally my own fault, but I wouldn’t have bothered with the sensor if I had realised I needed a hub.

Still it works very well is easy to use. Just shouldn’t be necessary.

Golden Review Award: 14 From Our UsersUpdate 31/01/24:

TP-Link have recently made some great software/firmware updates to much of the Tapo product line.

Firstly some degree of local automation is now available, when an automation is created in the Tapo app it will be identified whether or not it will continue to function without an internet connection.

Even better news for some, Matter compatibility is now available on the H100 Smart Hub allowing most of the sub-devices to be connected to a Matter controller. This function is still in beta however I have found it to be working well through Home Assistant (where Matter is also still in beta). For those HA users who have been using the Tapo HACS integration I strongly recommend switching to Matter as the polling lag experienced by the Tapo HACS integration does not exist using Matter and it also works entirely locally with no need to connect to TP-Link’s servers. As Matter is still rather new buttons and the water leak sensor currently aren’t supported, but I suspect this is only a matter of time.

    Original review:

The Tapo H100 smart hub is required if you wish to use any Tapo sensors/buttons/switches as these battery powered devices communicate over a ~868MHz connection not WiFi (2.4/5GHz). It is not required if you only have Tapo WiFi plugs, bulbs, cameras etc. The H100 is cheaper (at 15) than many hubs/bridges/gateways but as you would expect from TP-Link is a quality item and easy to setup via the Tapo app.

Whether this hub and associated devices will work for you will really depend on what you’re trying to achieve. Automation options in the Tapo app are somewhat limited and are certainly less customisable than other ecosystems. For instance phone notifications cannot be setup for all sub-devices; sensors yes, buttons no.

For those using Alexa once the Tapo skill has been installed the sub devices connected become available as triggers which opens up far more possibilities and the capability to control devices across other ecosystems. I tested using the motion sensor (T100) and smart button (S200B) to control some Philips Hue lights and both worked fine, albeit with occasionally a little delay.

For those using Home Assistant the Tapo integration currently cannot access any sub devices connected to this hub.

Unlike most systems that utilise a hub/bridge/gateway, any buttons or sensors connected to the Smart Hub will entirely cease to function if the internet connection is lost. There is no good reason for this and in my opinion is a very poor decision by TP-Link, local functionality is an absolute necessity for a reliable smart home. Light switches or security sensors not functioning because of a lost internet connection is a really dumb problem to introduce.

Curiously this device fails badly with two of the main advertised features; smart doorbell and burglar alarm/deterrent. At the loudest setting the doorbell chime cannot be heard through more than two closed doors in silence, let alone with any background noise. Additionally the smart button does not permit phone notifications meaning you can’t be alerted that way either (this can be achieved via Alexa). The idea of using this in conjunction with some sensors as a burglar alarm is also sadly farcical. It is not loud enough to scare off anyone plus can be easily unplugged by a burglar.

It is tricky to rate the H100, if the available sub-devices and automations meet your requirements then this is a good quality and well priced device. However if you were to rate it against some of the headline advertised features it would rate quite low. I’ve been generous as I mostly wanted this as a stand alone system in conjunction with a motion sensor (T100) to notify me by phone and keep a log, which it does well enough.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good quality but limited functionality

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersYou need this to have the other Tapo sensors. Fair enough. The main function is the setup and connect the sensors and this is easy enough. However, it also acts as a doorbell chime, which is handy if you get the button switch, but the sound is not good and the choice of chimes is not great. A bit of novelty. It would be great if the chimes were actually more useful and sounded good.

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersUnlike other smart home hubs I have tried the Tp-Link Tapo Hub connected simply without out any issues. My Tapo light switches were found and work perfectly with it and connecting to Alexa via the Tapo Android app worked perfectly allowing home automation by voice control and remote but also triggering by PIR sensors.
All the Tp-Link devices I have in my home including routers, power line networking, cameras, Kasa and Tapo switches and plugs have never given me an issues or problems setting up and using, this on stark contrast to generic ZigBee devices.
Only slight negative is the instructions supplied with Tapo devices is a little sparse but much better than the almost zero documentation supplied with generic ZigBee devices.
