Hard to set up at full speed Mac studio- M1 Max read as usb but after a lot of googling, cable swapping and reboots works as pci-e express. Read /write speeds near 2800mb/s no drop outs like my cheaper eBay product which was useless and went for a refund (unbranded).

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersTook 2 minutes to install a 4Tb WD Black SN850X NVME drive. Plugged it into the Thunderbolt 4 drive of my Mac Studio M2 Max and formatted to APFS. Reading at 3.1 Gb/s immediately. Instantaneous data transfer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning speed and so easy to set up

A solid well made and constructed product. Fast speeds, no over heating the fan is literally quite with out using the silence switch. I certainly recommend. I’m very happy to say the least!

Golden Review Award: 4 From Our UsersFairly easy to setup. The thermal pads supplied are very thin and not suitable for a non-heatsinked Samsung 990 drive. 2x seperately purchased 1.5mm thick thermal pads, doubled up to 3mm, were required instead. This allows contact with the metal enclosure, but still allows the case to close securely. You may require different thicknesses depending on the drive you install.

Transfer speeds are excellent and haven’t had any issues so far with the two I purchased. Allows me to actively edit and playback 6K ProRes footage on my Macbook Pro with no problems at all.

Worth getting the fan version IMO – the enclosure will get hot when you’re actively working with it or doing lots of data transfer. It’s about the same volume and pitch as a generic laptop fan on medium speed – not too intrusive. Shame you can’t tweak the fan speed slightly, as the default speed keeps it plenty cold enough. Maybe there’s a way of modding it?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great first impressions. Get the thermal pads right first time.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersNeeded some extra hard drive space without paying the Apple Tax on SSD so after researching wnet for this along with a 4TB Crucial P3 stick of SSD. I’m getting about 1400MB/s write and 2100MB/s read, and I was hoping for more in the region of just over 2000MB/s write, consdering the set up and via Thunderbolt 4. However, it may well be due to it being plugged into a Caldigit TS4 dock and also having a Thunderbolt 3 monitor attached as well as numorous other hardware attached to it, which is bound to reduce the bandwith, but that still appears to be slow. Strangely when I look at the system report, it is connecting at Thunderbolt 3 speeds. I am going to change things around to see if I can improve those speeds by plugging direct into the MacBook, which I have tried before, but still not getting the speeds I expected. As for putting it together, that was a breeze. From unboxing to up and running was 5 – 10 minutes max and I have had no issues withoverheating, with the fan being on most of the time, you dont really notice that much noise. It was stilll a cost effective way to add SSD to the Mac and in farness, even the speeds I am geting now is fine for what I am using it for, mainly for FCP and theres been no issues yet, but be good to improve them. Price for the enclosure was also good, on offer at the time, which often happens, look for those vouchers and the build is good, nice and sturdy, though it can possibly be a bit to eay for the top to become loose, but I dont plan on using it as a portable drive but more of a permenant fixture with the dock. I’m 75% happy with it, though if I was building anoter one, which i probably will, I’d probably try a different brand just for comparision of speed.

I bought the nvme version last month and my 4TB Samsung 990 PRO arrived yesterday.
Installation, partitioning (I set up a 1 TB and a 3TB for legacy reasons). Formatting went smoothly.
Then I did a disk speed test(average of 5). Read speeds are impressive but write speeds are about much slower. Testing was repeated with and without a Thunderbolt hub, the result the same. Other older drives (different enclosures not thunderbolt) do not have the same discrepency using the same USB port. Any ideas? The specs for all the components indicate a much smaller difference

    4.0 out of 5 stars I have a questio

I bought the Acasis 40Gbps enclosure after seeing online video reviews. It is an excellent product, robust and well made. It is very easy to install NVME M2 SSDs and I used a Samsung 980pro SSD. The speed of the device is in line with reviews and I get around 2.8-3.1 GB/s speeds – pretty much as good as the internal SSD on my MacBook M2 Pro.
The only issue I had is that it is very difficult to ascertain if the heat pads supplied are in contact with the case when they are applied to the SSD. Using the 1mm pad was not enough and adding the 0.5mm on top, I was still not certain. I purchased 3mm pads, but that was a bit too much – I think that with my components, a 2mm pad is about right …… if that helps others.

I inserted a 4TB Crucial P3 Plus SSD into this and it was fairly simple to set up. It is very solidly build and has a premium feeling weight to it.

The included fan can be useful for large transfers and it is very quiet, barely audible more than 2 meters away. The speeds are great too, often time averaging around 2GB per second. One thing to note is that this enclosure is more aimed at a static setup where you don’t want to be swapping drives too often as it only includes two thermal pads which are needed for optimal performance but tricky to take off once installed.

Overall, I recommend it and am happy with the purchase.
