Was smaller than expected based on the photos. Ideal for me for cleaning watch parts.
I got the ZX-009 – the tray is big enough to hold a pair of glasses but not anything much bigger.
Heats up the water quite quickly and does not seem to turn off the light when the temperature is reached so you may need some other method of telling what the temperature is.
Got an email telling me that the manual is out of date and that it does not automatically turn heating off when temperature reached – turned out the manual was up to date.
Very pleased with this.
I bought this principally for cleaning bike parts.
I used a roughly 50 / 50 mix of a very strong degreaser and hot water – the cleaner does have a heater, but using a hot solution to begin with, helps. I put a chain and an 11-speed cassette in the basket and set the cleaner running for 30 minutes. The difference was night and day.
I probably overloaded the basket and maybe could have improved the mix slightly. Subsequent uses have included fewer items in the basket, and they come up almost like new.
This model has rotary dials rather than touchpads – a much more positive control, especially if your hands are wet. There’s a nice drain hose with a tap, for emptying the cleaner when done.
This is not silent, but not overly noisy or distracting.
If you want to clean anything larger than jewelry, you will need the larger capacity units, and they get quite expensive. They do, however, produce good results in far less time than I could with a brush.
I use this for cleaning parts of watches and clocks. Also good for cleaning spectacles. The device seems to be quite powerful and quickly shifts dirt and grease from metal parts. I use an ammoniated cleaning solution for watch parts, but plain water with a dash of Fairy liquid works well too. The controls are simple and intuitive to use.
The unit incorporates a heater which works surprisingly quickly. However the temperature dial is hopelessly inaccurate. Setting it to the lowest temperature of 20 degrees centigrade actually heats the water to nearly 40 degrees. Still useful as a heater, but if only a low temperature is needed then I have to switch the heater off once it has become warm enough.
Handy little cleaner.
The key word is ‘little.’
1.3L sounds like a lot or room in the basket, but the reality is that anything much larger than a chicken egg is not going to fit in the basket without poking out of the water/cleaning solution.
I will take the description of 1.3L at face value, as I can not be bothered to check, but I have the feeling it is more like 1L.
If you want to clean things like motorcycle carburettors it is too small. You can do the bits like float bowls, jets, covers, etc, but not the main body.
Probably ideal for jewellery, and small item that you can hold in two cupped hands.
Its small capacity and very noisy operation aside, it is very effective. The bits of carburettor I threw in it came out very nicely cleaned, and the water+cleaning solution went a very satisfying black. I can not fault it for not working as intended. So I bought a bigger one. Little bits and pieces go in this one, and bigger parts into the bigger one.
I should have taken a ‘before and after’ picture, but only thought of doing that after.
This cleaner is great for small parts. I picked it up for cleaning watch parts, but i’ve also used it on disassembled carb parts and some jewelry. I got one of the smaller ones 1.something Litres. It’s big enough to do a batch of watch parts or an amount of jewelery without fuss and without using a ton of power.
The cleaner has option for time and heat and are very easy to set. It’s best run with the fluid warm or hot (depending on what is being cleaned) because it is stainless it’s easy to store and clean and you can even use the fluid for multiple rounds of cleaning.
This works well, just remember to give the contents a rinse after or use a gentle fan (like a hair dryer on low) to dry it. I used it on watch parts, a disasembled carb, and a couple of rings and bracelets. Just remember this thing won’t work miracles. If there’s heavy sediment stuck to whatever you’re cleaning you’ll prob have to give it a gentle agitation with a toothbrush or pegwood to help shift the dirt quicker, otherwise it will probably need a few extra rounds of cleaning.
A great value product.
