This watch is many in a collection but has not been taken off since it’s been brought tracks everything you could think off and everything you didn’t even know you could track. This has really helped with my lifestyle and fitness goals to stay on track along with a ridiculous battery life which lasts for weeks.

Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI just received this watch, so it’s a bit early for a full review of it.

However, having explicitly chosen a “New” product from “Amazon” as the vendor, foolishly thinking this was the reputable option, I was surprised that the device received did not immediately enter Pairing Mode. Instead I had to manually do so, at which point I got the attached screen showing that the device has actually been used previously.

Customer service did offer assistance to address this, but the fact that Amazon itself is actively selling used items as “New” is very disappointing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Watch seems reliable; Amazon... not so much

Been using this for a few months now and it’s absolutely fantastic. Upgraded from a Fenix 6 Solar, which served me well for a good number of years but I was only getting 5-6 days battery life with sleep tracking. In fact sleep tracking was draining the battery by about 4-5% per night and the solar aspect was a bit of a gimmick and didn’t really do much. This watch I get over 2 weeks on a single charge and still have a good 25% remaining. That’s doing all my workouts including running 20+ miles a week, sleep tracking every night and just general daily use. I don’t use it as a smart watch as such so it’s not connected to my phone 24/7, I only do that when I sync my watch or download watch faces.
The solar I’ve yet to try as I got it in November but I’ve heard good things so will update my review after the weather warms up.
GPS is very accurate and that’s not using the multi band either. HR is pretty good, better than my Fenix 6 but I use my chest HR monitor most of the time. Flash light is a nice addition, which I use quite a lot for many different tasks. I also find the health/fitness tracking more accurate than my Fenix 6 too. Such as the V02 Max, training readiness, body battery, HRV status and recovery time etc.
Overall very happy with my purchase. Highly recommended.

Love this Garmin watch. After 2 weeks of using this watch every day for running, swimming, strength, etc. I can say this is a great fitness watch. The battery holds for around 20-28 days – depending on your GPS, notification, brightness, etc. settings. Do not forget to download the Connect app to view your stats! You will also need to update your watch software before the 1st use.

Excellent take on the fitness tracker using LCD rather than battery hogging displays. Totally configurable set up for whatever exercise you want to do with a ton of other “nice” features, weather etc.

Default mode shows 28 days battery life, this includes constant heart rate and sleep monitor through the night. Looks like constant O2 monitoring reduces that by about half and of course constant, built-in GPS will knock it down to about a day.

App is very much no-nonsense compared to say Fitbit, but it goes in-depth on the stuff that may be of interest and “seems” accurate as far as these things go.

It’s also a very nice aesthetic and isn’t like the old LCDs and not pixelated at all. It doesn’t have a touch screen and relies on four buttons around the bezel which is a blast-from-the-past but not really a problem and also means the glass and bezel doesn’t have to be a particular shape for ease of touch.

The display is illuminated by pushing a button and it has a slightly blue glow, it’s easy to see the screen in the dark but it’s not backlit like the colour screens I’ve gotten used to. This isn’t a problem but might seem weird if you are used to modern smart watches.

I am enjoying the Garmin ecosystem and app, the battery life is amazing and it’s very quick to charge when depleted. I’m into the aesthetic.

If you’re looking for mainstream, maybe not for you but if you aren’t keen on charging your watch frequently and do like the aesthetic it’s grea

I’ve had this watch a week now. I wanted a running run with some ability to read messages from my phone. I didn’t need a dedicated smart watch.

For running this is far better than my previous Garmin watch, a Forerunner 35, which has lasted me nearly 7 years. That watch struggled to find satellite signals whereas the Instinct 2X has no such issue, so far. Running mapping and data appear to be accurate, though I don’t analyse the data as much as others might.

The smart features are good but I find the watch and my phone/Garmin app lose bluetooth connection regularly. I don’t think this is an issue with the watch but very possibly the Garmin app. Not a deal breaker but annoying.

The feature I have found most useful so far is the torch. It’s bright. I have used it several times, including a pitch black stretch of countryside between towns. It means I can do the most convenient 10k circuit in my area at night without problem.

The data produced by the watch is thorough. If you like such things I fully recommend this phone. Connectivity with the app is the only downside so far.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersMy first venture into smart watches, never been interested before, I initially looked at some of the lesser brands due to price but couldn’t place my trust in them , I have a galaxy phone so studied the samsung watches very tempted but couldn’t handle the 1 day battery life .
Attention then went on Garmin but put off by the prices and although I initially I wanted a colour display once the this chrome only display rugged Casio g shock imitating watch came to my attention at the perfect price on Amazon I was soon sold.
5 double function buttons which equates to 10 meaning no need for touching screen.
This watch has plenty of smarts despite the humble appearance, I love the hot buttons for short cuts such as access to radio controls, I clean windows so like my radio so when a customer approaches 2 clicksand I mute the volume.
When I Start a walk or bike ride it’s 2/3 clicks to record time and distance.
Set up takes time to get it just right and lots of button pressing – learning which can be a tad frustrating but give it the time it needs,DO NOT Send it back, this is an outstanding watch in which I get 19 days battery life with minimal charging time when it eventually gets low.
Watch looks/ feels great I have bought some click on straps as the one fitted was heavy and dull tho top quality as you would expect.
Sleep features on watches bring different thoughts from reviewers but I think it’s mostly accurate and I like the morning report it gives me.
The app is fine for me. The blue tooth range is excellent meaning I can leave phone downstairs and while upstairs I will receive all notifications of emails and WhatsApp and missed calls
This watch may well appeal to younger ones with better eyes than my 46 year old ones , i do struggle a bit so as I said not for everybody, some may well be better off with the next affordable colour display .
The rugged nature of the watch means I can not worry too much when at work or football, I did buy the black little cover to protect it which is good but haven’t bothered with screen protectors tho I would have other watch but the screen lays deep in to the watch.
I definitely recommend Garmin on a company who create lots of watches for lots of different needs, even wagon drivers can buy a version of this for their needs, amazing.
It’s great how it doesn’t look or drain battery like a smartwatch but smart it definitely is in every sense of the word.

5.0 out of 5 stars 👌🏻👍for me …not for everybody

Golden Review Award: 9 From Our UsersUpside

    Case
Good looking G-Shock design and recessed glass mean that the watch is rugged and suitable for manual work and sports without suffering damage.

    Strap
Comfortable and has plenty of closely spaced adjustments.

    Display
Always-on display which is easy to read. Previous smartwatches where I had to wait a couple of seconds for the display to light up so I could see the time, are a thing of the past for me – I found that really annoying.

    Battery
Never seems to run out. I charge it once a week on average for an hour. Solar only slows the discharge and doesn’t appear to increase the charge.

    Sensors
Very good at picking up heartbeat under conditions where other smartwatches I have tried failed to record correctly. All other sensors work without problem too. GPS notably works faultlessly.

    Garmin Connect App
This app is good, although no better than others I have tried.

    Downsides
Selection of sports activities is non-intuitive although I have learned to use it now.

There doesn’t seem to be automatic detection of activities.

    Summary
Delighted with my Instinct 2 Solar and won’t be looking to change as long as it lasts. Good value.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersJust upgraded to an Instinct 2 after my 7 year old Forerunner 235 finally gave up. I was previously exclusively a runner but wanted something with more multi-activity options.

    Positives:
    – LOADS of activity recording options (20+) which you can select to add to the watch from the app.
    – LOADS more data available that the Forerunner 235, particularly background data throughout the day, but also lots more performance tracking data.
    – Easy setup and fast syncing with the app.
    – Basic controls pretty simply to master.
    – LONG battery life which is great for longer endurance events.
    – Tough construction.

    Negative:
    – Screen slightly smaller than the Forerunner, although the watch looks less comically large if you’re wearing it through the day.
    – Because there are some many activity recording options some take a while to master. I did a weight session and it was a bit fiddly to log individual sets (which it does), but this is far superior to the ‘run/ bike/ other’ option previously.

5.0 out of 5 stars Big step up from a basic Forerunner.

Golden Review Award: 28 From Our UsersAfter using it for everyday usage and hiking for a month:
    Positives:
-Acceptable size. I hate big watches but it’s not so large / not so wide on my average sized hand. Before buying I was thinking about to get a I2s instead but the S could really be for ant-armed people or ladies since the normal I2 solar is perfectly fit.
-Water resistance. Bathing wearing my watch since day 1.
-20+ days operating time, depends on functions you use (pulse-oxy, GPS, heart pulse, etc)
-Minimalistic, transreflective screen (designed to see clearly under open sunlight)
-Monochrome (could be a negative experience for others)
-Paying with my watch at any pos terminals (in Hungary-EU) instead of my credit card made my life a lot easier. It’s also very trendy. 🙂 You have to enter your access code once per day only (or if you remove your watch from your arm.)
-Built-in “blind map” where I can upload GPX routes to follow and save my activities meanwhile. Not as good as a full-map (Fenix 6x and up) but it still fulfill my needs by alerting me if I leave the set route accidentally. Very useful option while chatting with others during a hike in the woods.
-Elevation profiles. It’s always pretty good to know what heights coming up in front of you or your route.

    Negatives:
-Since transreflective, it’s not perfectly visible from dusk.
-On top of that, the Solar version provides less overall visibility than the normal I2.
-The backlight set to 100% still quite low for me even in darkness. Wish I could raise it to 200% for trading to an extra amount of battery power. It’s only 7 sec to light up (by default) anyway..
-The activity menu is somewhat complicated and therefore confusing. Especially when I upload a GPX route, trying to follow it and record my trip at the same time. Had to watch 2-3 videos about it until I understood how to do that.
-The GPX route to upload is limited to 50 track points per file. Have to edit most of route files I download from Internet inbefore I could upload them to my watch.
