This is a fun set to build and to play with, in total there are 503 pieces. Which I thought was a good amount for a Lego set. The instructions are straightforward and easy to follow. My 11 year old was fine building this set and just needed the odd bit of help but it was more to check he had done certain sections correctly. It did take a little bit to build but it was lots of fun and enjoyable to se it all coming together.
Overall I’m really happy with the set especially as it is great for imaginative play. It definitely helps that the set is interactive with certain working parts. It is a good set to add to maybe a city and make it even more interesting by adding other sets. At one point we had a street scene, police station and a couple of houses which the truck visited. The price at time of review is very reasonable especially for the amount of pieces you in the set.
You can’t go wrong with Lego or Lego technic and this garbage truck set in no exception.
You get the usual strong, durable pieces, as well as he step-by-step clear instructions.
This doesn’t fit into the smaller cityscapes that Lego do, but it is not designed for that and it makes a great standalone model in its own right.
Another classy model from this timeless brand.
Lego technic sets are often quite pricey. Especially the officially licensed ones. So this Mack Garbage Truck looks really good value at 24.99(at the time of writing).
Like all Lego products it comes in a illustrated box. Inside the box you have all the components in number bags to aid the build process, a sticker sheet and manual. The manual like all Lego products is easy to follow with clear diagrams and illustrations. If you aren’t familiar with Technic builds they tend to be more complex with smaller parts. While the builds are more complex and take a bit longer, they can teach engineering principles as Technic kits often have working features.
The finished build is really nice and actually looks like the truck while retaining the Technic aesthetic. This can’t be said for all Technic sets at this sort of price. The truck has working steering, a bin loading mechanism and tipping action. As well as having play value it is also pretty good for display, and isn’t far off the scale of the Speed Champions line.
Overall a really nice set that looks good with plenty of functions at a competitive price.
My son absolutely loves it and has spent hours building and playing with it. The truck is made up of over 500 pieces, so it takes some time and effort to put together. It’s packed with realistic features, such as a working side loader, tipping bin, and opening doors. It also has a gear element on top of the cab that steers the truck, making it even more interactive. My son likes to imagine that he is collecting recycling and keeping the city clean. It’s inspired by a real-world electric garbage truck, so it is a great way to teach children about the importance of recycling and using clean energy.
After countless years of Lego bricks in plastic bags this is the first paper packaging I’ve come across using paper, ironic really considering the nature of the toy.
Does what it says really, clear instruction booklet, or via the app if that’s your thing. Little ones may need some parental guidance as there are a few awkward fiddly bits, but that’s often the case with this iconic franchise.
Set aside a few hours and get building!
We got this product for my son, nearly 8, we love Lego and Lego technic makes his dad feel nostalgic! Great item to build, it is a nice size for him to play with without being too big for storage. There are some nice moveable features to the truck. Easy to put together following the instructions.
This was great to have over the half term some of the things we had planned we could not do due to the weather so we got this Lego set out it was meant to be an Easter gift not only was it fun to build but it meant that we spent quality time together and did not miss not going out
The building of this fun interesting and educational learning about how gears work the detail of this vehicle is of a very high standard as you would expect from Lego we already have the App so that helps with the building
I have always been a great fan of lego and technic in particular. The only down side for most simple technic models is that the amount of mechanism including is often quite minimal. There are a lot of cheap technic sets where once you build it you discover that the only nod towards engineering is a single steering or lifting mechanism.
This is nice because for once there is a reasonable amount of engineering in here. A simple lift mechanism (not really technic but it is an operational mechanism, the standing steering but mostly a rather nifty grab and lift mechanism. Perhaps most neat is the design which combines the grab and lift with it dumping into the rear of the truck to then empty later. This is a nice engineering step show kids (or adults) when they are somewhere between building steering and complete gearboxes.
At this point I would include the video of the mechanism in use but somehow I managed to delete the video (must upload that later).
Value is good with some 500 pieces in the box. Again most of the small sets have a disappointingly low pieces : euro ratio. So if this is on discount this is a very good set.
8+ is probably accurate. The only fiddly bit is the grab mechanism but anyone with some experience should be able to do that reasonably well, even at the bottom end of the age range.
The single annoyance? The box says “Electric Garbage Truck”. Yes it is a model of an electric truck but it is not an electric model of a truck. I know most people would probably realise that at this price point you are not going to get motors in the box but I can imagine someone who doesn’t know lego making that mistake.
Recommended but please lego … remove the word electric from the set name.
I love LEGO Technic and that electric garbage truck that actually tips is a cool one. The build time is pretty small, the truck looks awesome and it’s load of fun for both kids and adults. Price like always is a bit high, but I love it nonetheless.
Great set to build had lots of fun building it.I was a bit disappointed because the 2 headlight stickers were missing from the sheet but apart from that brilliant build and the model is stunning. I really like the functions parts which include the grasp that can lift the bin and flow the rubbish elements into the back of the truck and you can also tip the trash out the back too.I highly recommend this set to all Lego fans.
Unless you live under a rock, everybody knows what to expect with Lego. All 3 of my boys love Lego so you can imagine we have a LOT of it. The two youngest are not old enough to be able to read and follow the instructions, but my 16yr old loves to build it for them. This truck took him about an hour I’d say and the result was great. As this is Lego Technic, it’s a little different to ordinary Lego but just as much fun. I’d say the age guide of 8+ is about right, but even then, my son said some bits were really quite fiddly so help may be required.
The youngest has played with this a lot and I’m impressed with the playability. It’s nice to watch him make up little stories like using his other Lego houses they’ve built and pretending it’s ‘bin day’ lol.
All in all, a great Lego Technics set and is sure to please any little fans.
As one would expect from the Technic series, this is another great kit from Lego, with multiple moving parts.
I was pleased to see that the components are now being packaged in paper, rather than plastic bags, in a positive nod to the environment. In this case, three bags, carefully labeled for each stage of the build.
There are just over 500 pieces in the kit, some of them very small and fiddly, along with a 195-step instruction manual. As always, the guide is exceptionally well laid out and very clear to follow.
It’s by no means an easy build, but my 8 year-old grandson likes a challenge and enjoyed getting his teeth into this. It took him a few sessions over a couple of days to put it together, and he was as proud as punch when he applied the final sticker and had the finished build.
A fantastic kit, very reasonably priced for the number of parts, build time and challenge level.
This Lego Technic Mack recycling truck set is really good fun to build and play with especially with the steering on top and the bin collection in the side that picks up the bin and tips it’s in.
The truck is a good size although I am unsure of its scale as it’s a little big for town and a little small compared with other small technic sets. That being said it was a fun build and I love the mechanisms that control the functions.
You have one for the steering which is controlled from the top and very precise. Then you have the rear section that just tips up and allows the waste to be dumped out of the hinged back door. Then finally the cleverest bit is the bin collection on the side, it closes the two clamps around the bin to hold it in place and then continues the motion to lift it up and tip the recycling into the side shoot where it filters down into the back section. It’s very clever and works really well.
As usual with Lego you get excellent pieces with perfect bright colours and easy to follow friendly instructions.
Overall, for 29.98 it’s a fair price for the set but a deal on it would be nice. It is a good well-designed set for both assembly and playing with.
What a fantastic toy. The quality and design is of the highest standard. The instructions are very clear and yet with over 500 pieces there’s enough to challenge a child without it becoming overly difficult. When finished you’re left with a toy that has a lot of play potential and looks smart enough to merit pride of place in a child’s bedroom. Another great piece of design from Lego.
So my boy loves his lego minecraft collection but also loves trucks and this one went down well.
He didn’t find it too tricky but for a younger child they may need some help.
The build itself was quite quick and the truck itself feels solid and nothing is loose and the fact everyhting is broken down into sections means you don’t lose and parts or get them mixed up with one another.
The stickers seemed a little odd in a world where most lego stuff now has the writing and images pre-printed on them and it could get put on wonky.
Overall a good item, fun for most ages and my son loved building it.
This is a really nice set with the level of quality we have come to expect from Lego. My Husband and I have several Technic kits, mostly larger sets than this, but even though small, this does not disappoint. It is quite fiddly with lots of small parts so would suit an adult as well as an older child. I do think it a shame that the words boys and girls in the title may put off older people thinking this set easy to put together and this is not the case. It is a good challenging set that ‘boys and girls’ may well need help with. However, there is plenty to play with, once the truck is assembled!!! There are a good few hours in putting this together and we are enjoying the process. With great design and moving parts as you would expect from a technic model I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this set, it is well worth its 5 stars.
At only 6p per brick this small Technic Lego set is excellent value, but I did find it a little plain. I favour the large Technic car sets and I did find this one just a little bit vanilla, but there’s no doubting it’s a great little model and many will find a lot of joy in building it and playing with the finished model.
The grab lift for the bins and the container unit on the back are really good. The detail is nice and there’s plenty of fun to be had here. And, as it’s relatively small build with low price for entry, it’s a nice quick model that will keep most people interested for the duration of the build.
I am a huge fan of Lego Technic and this garbage truck has exceeded my expectations. With 503 pieces, it is a well crafted set. The Lego instruction manual is incredibly detailed, making the building process nice and simple. It took me approximately 1 hour to complete. If you are building it with your kids, you might need to lend them a hand as a few parts can be a bit challenging. Nevertheless, it is an enjoyable experience for all ages, even adults.
This is the first technic series Lego set I have built and I am quite impressed. It is a really fun built even though I completed it within a few hours.
Once built it features moveable front wheels, hopper and bin hook. A great toy for boys and girls and any adult who is into Lego.
Overall I am very happy with this technic set and recommend it!
This LEGO set arrived quickly and carefully packaged. The truck is fairly easy to build and provides lots of fun. There are small parts so it is definitely for bigger kids. The manual is easy and clear to follow. It costs 30 at the time of writing my review and it is a reasonable price. I would buy it again.
Highly recommended!
Thank you for reading my review. I hope that you found it helpful.
Amazing bin lorry. Great instructions to follow as standard with Lego. Nice to play with when finished. There are few stickers to be put on so if you are building it with children maybe help them a bit. The litte bin works great. It is a great fun and good value for what you are getting.
Got this LEGO Technic Mack LR Electric Garbage Truck for my nephew’s 9th birthday, and it was a hit. He absolutely loooves rubbish trucks. It is currently for 29.98, which feels like a great choice, especially with free delivery thanks to Amazon Prime. It’s pretty cool how it mimics the real Mack electric garbage truck, with a side loader that actually picks up bins and tips them into the truck. My nephew got a kick out of using the gear to steer it and opening the cab doors to peek inside. It’s neat that it comes with 3D instructions on the LEGO app; made building it a bit easier for him. It’s a great toy that keeps him busy, fueling his obsession with garbage trucks in a fun, creative way. Honestly, it’s nice to see him so engaged, and it didn’t even break the bank.
The Lego Technik 42167 Mack LR Electric garbage truck is a 503-piece set. When built its roughly 9cm square and 24cm long. This is a Lego set with stickers if that is something you like. The stickers do a good job of selling the overall build as being a garbage truck. The build is Rated 8+ it’s a slightly more complicated build. This is the first set I have had from Lego where the bricks ship in (3) paper rather than plastic bags.
The build is helped along with a great full colour 195 step (over 132 pages some are very simple) Lego instruction booklet that make it clear as you go which holes in the long sections you need to put the pins in; and where the lever for the garbage mechanism goes. The finished truck has several playable elements; the truck is on wheels, and you can drive it around; making that more interesting there is a steering function you control from above. The cab doors open (it’s a bit small for a minifig to ride in it though), you can empty the waste box by twisting a brick on the side. The best mechanism is the pincer grab that lifts the included garbage can to empty in the bin. There are some small round bricks to put in the bin to empty later. The mechanism works from a single twist gear on the side. It’s a very clever mechanism and it’s great to see it on an affordable set.
It was a fun build; it took about 55 minutes from start to finish. It’s a more complex kit thanks to the alignment needed for all the mechanisms. It was fun getting it right and lined up pays off when you are done.
This came in retail packaging, so is pleasing to the eye, and is recommended for children aged 8 and upwards. The piecescomepackaged separately and are clearly labelled, which makes following the instructions easier. It is great quality, as you would expect from Lego, and has some really fun and interactive features. The price is fair, and I am happy to recommend this fun build.
+ everything has its place
+ manual is easy to read
+ time flies building it
+ sometimes it’s good to build something instead of spending too much time on the phone, etc
– small parts are easy to lose
I grew up with Lego and could not resist trying out this Lego Technic model. Things have come on since I last played with Lego and there’s even an App to help you in building your model now. I installed it on my phone and had a play with it but did not use it for the build. The model comes with an incredibly detailed build manual & that was sufficient for me.
All of the parts were packaged to fit in with the stages set out in the manual and incredible care and attention to detail was clearly taken to make sure that there were no missing parts & that the model was as easy for youngsters as it could possibly be to build. In terms of care & attention to detail if you look at the photo of part pack 2 you can see a little card wallet – that holds a little rubber drive belt – Impeccable.
Everything went together easily – the manufacturing tolerances on these parts are remarkable, it’s real quality stuff. I made a couple of mistakes, but they were obvious, and easy to rectify – the kit comes apart just as easily as it goes together.
I’ve attached photos of the 4 stages of the build. At the end you are left with a model with opening doors, movable mirrors & steering. The model will pick up and load “recycling” ;o) and the load bed will tilt to deposit “recycling”. The controls for the pick up and tilt are on the side of the model. The steering control is on top of the cab.
I had immense fun building this model. Some of the parts are a touch stiff to fit, and little hands might need a bit of help, but that would be all part of the fun.
Given the detail of the model and the excellent documentation, and the outstanding quality of manufacture I think this kit is really good value.
Super quality
Super detail
Great fun
