I had two Roomba vacuums in succession a number of years ago but they crashed into everything, terrified the dog and failed within months. Wow, this is a whole new generation of robot vacuums. I’ve had this one for several months and couldn’t be happier with its performance. I have two large dogs and a lot of floor space. Mainly wood laminate but some carpeting and rugs, also linoleum and tiled areas. It vacuums and mops all areas really well even on lower settings (not mopping rugs/carpets of course). My floors have never been so clean. I now have a routine of lifting certain items off the floor but if I forget it works around them. It has so many clever control and functional features I couldn’t go into them all now. I don’t have the emptying base so I work with it and empty the little box in between areas if necessary and also clean the mop head with a soft brush under the tap but that’s my choice. If it continues to perform as well in the months to come, I’m going to buy another one but with the auto emptying base and use the one I have for upstairs. If you have larger areas of open flooring it will cover the areas fairly quickly but it will be a bit slower working it’s way around lots of furniture but it’s great not having to get down to clean under the sofa or the bed. It can also detect whether a piece of furniture or a radiator is too low for it. The old ones used to get wedged. The replacement pads and filters are a little pricey but I haven’t had to change either yet and the should last for ages. I could go on but needless to say I’m extremely happy with my new cleaning buddy.
Well, I was a bit unsure about those robots as a dog owner I always had a bit hesitant about the quality of cleaning. However, as it’s been a month now, it is able to perform an exact same may be a better result comparing with me 🙂 We’ve got a mixture of different surface types like tile, laminate and carpet and it’s doing it perfectly for all. I hope it will last long this is my only concern now. Top quality.
The Roborock S8 has truly transformed our cleaning routine! My mum loves it for its user-friendly design, fantastic app, and precise house mapping. It not only looks sleek but also tackles deep cleaning and mopping effortlessly. The relief it provides for my mum, sparing her from the struggles of traditional cleaning methods due to back pain and arthritis, is invaluable. Navigating through our busy house with pets, it picks up everything in its path. We’re so impressed that we’re parting with our mop. While the black surface may show scratches, a quick wipe and nail polish remover easily resolve this minor issue. Overall, a remarkable robot that deserves a 10/10 — worth every penny!
I’ve decided to get a robot because when my German Shepherd changes winter/summer fur twice per year I could sweep the floors all day long.
I’ve got a combination of laminate floors, tiles, carpets, low/high pile and jute rugs. It cleans the pet hair from all the surfaces nicely. As a bonus it fluffs up the high pile carpet.
On carpets it does not collect from areas 10cm from the wall, on laminate floors yes, but it can not reach the corners.
The mop is reasonably good.
The bin is small, if you own a pet you will need to empty it 1-3 times per clean. It does not notify you when the bin is full. The fur gets stuck in the bin, so you will get dirty emptying it. It is worth considering to buy a model with self-emptying station, but it is expensive.
I could not connect it to Roborock app and there’s a forum dedicated to this issue. Some users managed to connect it by splitting internet into 2 and 5 Hz, bit it did not work for me. I managed to connect it to Xiaomi Home app, which I’m using and it’s user-friendly.
Overall, it does what I needed it for and it saves me lots of time.
I am really rather impressed with the Roborock S8 which is my first venture into the world of robot vacuum cleaners. We have a mix of hard floors and both long and short pile carpets and it copes very well with all of them. Before taking the plunge I did think it would be a bit of a gimmick and it would never replace our Dyson but in all honesty it does a really good job with loads of customisation options within the app. The mopping feature isn’t perhaps a truly deep clean but as long as the hard floors aren’t stupidly dirty then it is more than adequate. I bought the Roborock cleaning fluid too which initially seemed rather expensive but you use so little it will last for ages and it helps on the hard floor areas.
All in all I am really pleased with my purchase, it’s so easy to use either via the onboard controls, Alexa or the app. As a result we use it more frequently than we would normally vacuum and it’s particularly satisfying to set it going when you go out to find it all done when you return.
If I had one criticism though it would be the availability of consumables. The main rollers, filters, mop cloths and side brushes need replacing every so often and the app has a feature to keep you informed as to the level of wear based on usage. Surprisingly Roborock do not have an online option to order spares and all the Amazon options are for third party compatible products. I contacted Roborock customer services on this point but they could only point me to Aliexpress or Geekbuying which I found a bit strange.
Like I have said this is my first robot vac so I have nothing to compare with in terms of just how good it is. The mapping, extra suction and quality build were features I took into account before buying and in this respect I feel it justifies the higher price compared to others.
I had a neato d7 for years and believed I had it made and when it stopped working I was keen to replace it. as a busy working mum, the d7 had kept a semblance of sanity in my home- especially when I had none, now an essential commodity keeping my life in some order.
On my search for a new bot, it was mind boggling trying to figure out what make and model to go for. I opted for a budget I robot and after a few weeks I returned this given its poor performance.
I then found the Roborock and with prime sale and great reviews I gave it a go. Absolutely delighted with it! So easy to set up and the app function is fabulous (d7 could never connect and was always manually operated). Rocky mapped my downstairs in minutes and has never bashed a thing since. On putting up my Christmas tree I created a no go zone on the app and tree is left standing with Rocky avoiding on all occasions.
There are routine functions on the app where he can run with a hoover & mop together – he can clearly identify carpet and avoids mopping with ease. Or you can run a hoover only cycle or a hoover then mop separately! You can set timers for daily cycles through the day. My routine is hoover then mop whole downstair in the early morning and a combined hoover and mop after dinner in the kitchen. He diligently pops out twice daily and if the dog or kids have left an obstacle or two for him, he is yet to get stuck.
The suction and mopping are both great for daily maintenance of the floor and I love coming down in the morning to clear and clean floors throughout.
I have had no issues whatsoever with this bot and would recommend this model given its high performance and intuitive app when compared to the other make I have tried
Happy bot shopping – it’s life changing!!
Been looking at these for a few years but had numerous concerns, eve though the majority reviews were happy.
OK, i should not have been sceptical in the first place, it is absolutely brilliant, me an my wife love the home looking pristine all of the time, and this thing helps us achieve this.
The robot initially maps the room which take about 8 minutes. It then knows what is what.
I then put some scheduling cleaning together to come on various times through there day and night, we personally love the morning clean, you come downstairs and it looks mint, and the lines in the 2 large rugs is amazing, brings a smile to or faces every time.
We have 3 indoor cats so you can imagine the fluff everywhere, and the litter they kick out the tray. This thing surgically removes all debris , and we genuinely look each other when emptying the dust bin by just how much it collects in one run, awesome.
Few things to keep your eye on, make sure dustbin doesn’t get too full, make sure you keep the tank topped up. But also remove the rollers underneath as it does collect a lot of debris, probably because it uses water at the same time. No big deal, but do keep on top of these things. You will certainly build your own cleaning regime that suits you, but he just wanted to point it out.
Overall the machine is absolutely brilliant, we wold never look back, it’s so bloody clever. Love it.
Thinking of buying a 2nd one for upstairs, when i Have a bit of spare cash.
Don’t be hesitant, don’t be sceptical, there is no need.
Oh, get some some spare cleaning cloths so you have a change when you need to wash, I also purchased a few more filters for the same reason. There only cheap.
We love it. Cheers Si
I’ve had a Neato D7 and then D10 (which, after 4 years, was identical in performance to the D7 and its app was worse, losing multi level maps). I also have an iRobot M6 mopping robot.
This is an in-depth comparison and review.
My D7 was a solid workhorse. It lasted 5 years and was working still, when I sold it. The D10 though much nicer looking, stopped working within a year. And Neato went bust. Having used Roborock’s S8 for a week, I now understand why they went bust.
I was not keen on Chinese Robots; iRobot and Neato have a track record of reliability and performance. After the D10 was binned, I searched high and low and ordered the iRobot J7. 7 weeks later, iRobot hadn’t fulfilled the order!! I had enough and decided to give Roborock a try.
AND OH. MY. GOD.
Compared to the D7 (which is not a fair comparison, that robot is over 6 years old) the S8 is leaps and bounds ahead in technology, features and capability. Compared to the M6, which is a fairer comparison (though the M6 is 3 years old) it’s still leaps and bounds ahead.
Here’s why.
The S8 is a rare use of both LiDAR and cameras for navigation and mapping. It also uses infared for obstacle avoidance. This produces incredibly detailed maps and deft navigation. The D7/10 and M6 (and most iRobot devices) bump to navigate. The S8 rarely if ever bumps. Still, the S8 is faster, I would say twice as fast.
It can map a large flat within 7 minutes. Neatos and iRobot took 3 hours. Both were not accurate and required a few runs. The s8 got it 95% right in 6 mins. The iRobot map is far less accurate than the S8.
S8 can recognise its location without a base (with multi level maps); the others require additional bases. Its obstacle avoidance is brilliant. It gently and easily moves around objects such as toys, so long as these are above 1cm high. It’s not easily stuck. Both iRobot and Neato got stuck easily but they each lacked obstacle avoidance.
The Roborock App is off the charts. It’s feature rich and extremely thorough. You can add furniture and use 3D. I attach pictures so you can see how cool this looks. This is really just for design, the robot still operates as normal, whether you add furniture or not.
You can choose the direction of cleaning (vertical or horizontal) to eg mop along the floor lines not against them. You can set the mop to avoid coming out at night (if for example it goes to recharge mid-way through a job). You can highlight an area and tell it to clean it (see picture). You can set up 2 or more cleans of the same room; when you do it cleans the opposite way, giving a more thorough clean (see picture). You can even set up different clean settings in a per room basis in one go. You can choose which rooms to clean and IN WHAT ORDER as well as how many times.
It gives realtime updates on the route, present location and progress of the clean.
Incredible!
By comparison, the D10 which cost more and took 5 years to develop; you had one map level, a basic dot matrix map, only clean all or clean one room at a time, one clean at a time, no obstacle avoidance, no real options apart from power, no real time data at all and it was slow slow slow. And Neato has gone bust. I’m not convinced that even iRobot will handle this kind of competition, even though it practically created this market.
Honest to God, this thing is worth its money just based on the app. The performance is a bonus.
As to performance, the edge cleaning is far better and the suction is comparable. I’m not convinced it’s 6000pa; it seems the same as Neato (which is 4000pa). It’s certainly quieter. You also have 4 options of power! Another feature!
Nevertheless on both hard floor and medium pile carpet it’s very good. On the latter I don’t think it’s as good as the Neatos which had bristle brushes which were stronger and wider, giving more of a beating action. No question that this loss is worth it every day of the week.
The dust bin is tiny compared to the Neato (less than half). But again, it’s fine. The robot packs dirt densely so you don’t need to empty more than twice a week. It also has a timer which counts down to maintenance (but no sensor to warn for full bin).
The missing features are bin full warning (Neato had, but it pales into comparison with what it didn’t have); diagonal direction clean (a first world request, I admit). That’s it! The app is so rich you will need a few hours play to get to grips with it.
Now for mopping. I’ve never been convinced by combo robots over dedicated mopping ones. The M6 does mop better and has a far wider (and bigger) pad. It also has a better designed pad which removes more dirt. I say this based on the used pad; the M6 is very dark when finished and quite muddy showing what it’s wiped off. The S8 is a bit grey, showing a mild wiping. Roborock claims it vibrates so many times a minute etc but it’s a mild wiping action, whatever they claim. The S8 vacuums one end and mops the other. I think mopping in one go, alone, produces better results. The S8 can’t do this.
However, the kicker is this. It’s a breeze to get the S8 to vacuum and mop. Twice. Thrice. A day. Each day. It’s very easy and convenient. I can set it to go and do my work. I may have to refill it but can set it on moderate water and leave it for the day. The M6 while better is far, far less reliable. It will get lost. It will get stuck. It will get confused in a dark spot (iRobot only has cameras). It will need me to vacuum up first and remember to set the M6 up after. It will need me to re-deploy it out for a second mop. You get the picture.
In real life, which is all about convenience, the S8 is soooo convenient you’ll get the same result by just being able to mop more. I used the M6 twice a week. I use the S8 every day. And even twice a day. No problem. The pad is also much easier to clean because you can fully squeeze it (you can’t with the M6 pads).
THE FLOOR HAS NEVER BEEN CLEANER.
If you’ve never had a cleaning robot, buy this and never, ever look back.
Thank you Roborock.
