If you love boiled and poached eggs then this little gadget is brilliant. its small and cuts the cooking time by at least half. It comes with a little measuring cup with a guide to how long it will take. Only down side is cleaning it as it boils dry and and leaves like burnt water on the bottom. It is very easy to use and my 8 old loves being able to use it independently.
Boiled eggs are great.
I got it more for poaching. Using large eggs and following the instructions the eggs were over cooked (almost hard yokes) reason for not 5 stars. With practice and adjustments should be able to cook them just right. I was sort of expecting it to go one way or the other ie hard or soft. Best thing you don’t waste half your egg cooking in water. And once I’ve got the knack of it will be fine.
I have always used egg boilers and my old one broke so I bought this one to replace it. This is perfect because, unlike my older one, it has an automatic switch off and not the annoying buzzer which continues until you have to switch it off manually. It is very easy to clean and very easy to use. I have actually found this one quite speedy and boils your eggs to which particular way you like them. I will definitely buy another one of these once this one has done its day.
This egg cooker by Salter I got this week from Amazon was a brilliant purchase. It does cook very quickly and the heat from it is amazing so keep kids and animals away from it whilst plugged in and being used ( switched on & cooking) . Comes with a simple guideline leaflet in the box telling you how to prepare/instructions and safety precautions. Now we have only cooked poached eggs in it so far for myself and they turned out just perfect the way I like them. No more frying pan out for me anymore as I am on a health kick to lose a lot of weight and reverse my diabetes. The eggs tasted beautiful. Great for adding to toast or a pancake or waffle or just to a cooked breakfast. Saves 91% on electricity than using an electric hob cooker so it will pay for itself as energy costs have went through the roof here in the UK . Any after thoughts well yes I wish I bought it a lot sooner.
I love this little egg boiler. Ok so it isn’t that difficult to make eggs but I had a bad habit of putting them on the stove and then walking off to do something else and forgetting about them! This is simple to use, you put the required amount of water in the bottom, add the eggs and put the lid on and switch on. It works by steaming them and once the water runs out it switches off so the amount of water depends on what you are doing ie: hard, soft or poached. You get a measuring cup with a pricker for piercing the shell and two little poaching cups. I have tried all three settings, perfect hard boiled eggs, perfect runny poached eggs but the soft ones weren’t soft enough but may have been my fault as toast soldiers weren’t ready when the eggs were. Don’t understand those who say the egg sticks in the poaching cups, they don’t if you oil the cups well. It does get a brown residue on the heating plate but it mostly come off when scrubbed and doesn’t affect the use.
Have made poached and boiled eggs and nit had a problem withe the cooking of the eggs. Nice and easy, it turns itself off when the water has evaporated so you don’t need to watch over it but be warned that it produces a lot of steam and gets super hot so don’t touch it whist its on or in between cooking. Put it on a counter that has space. I slightly open a window to let steam out that jets from the small hole in the lid. I’ve had good results and it is straightforward to use, nothing too fancy but it does the job. Only thing i would say is that the poached egg containers sit loosely in the device which i thought should wedge in but when the lid is covering the container it is fine and it much easier to take out when the eggs have cooked.
Bought to replace the comparable ‘VonShef’ branded one we previously owned that stopped working one day after about 2 years. I went for this brand as I’ve had several kitchen products from Salter and they’ve always been good quality. I paid 13.99 (full price) for mine which was cheaper than the one it was replacing and feels like a good price for a quality item like this.
The first thing I’ll say is my relief at having PRINTED measurements on the cup! The previous one just had raised markings, making it so hard to see the water level (see comparison pic). This one is far more sensible and, even if the ink wears off in the future, it’s still a far better system than the previous.
It’s developed the brown staining pictured after 2 uses, although I feel like that’s to be expected (my other one did exactly the same). I’ve found using an abrasive cleaner like The Pink Stuff gets rid of it without too much hassle. There was still a trace of water left in the tray (my old one would boil off all the water), which boiled away quickly once I’d taken the lid off. I’m guessing this is designed to limit the build-up of staining over time.
The boil function worked great and cooked quicker than I remember my old one doing. We’ve tried ‘soft’ and ‘hard’ eggs (medium size Tesco eggs, if that makes a difference) and both are what you’d expect (‘soft’ gave a liquid yolk, set white; ‘hard’ cooked the egg through). Our old one was more of a guessing game, and I found myself having to add more or less water than the designated mark to achieve the result I was expecting. When the eggs were done, the light made an audible ‘click’ as it switched off, which was enough to alert me as I was in the room at the time.
I’m not overly impressed with the poaching function. I ‘preheated’ the machine in order to melt the butter I had put in the cups, but even with the cups coated in butter, the egg still stuck to them a fair bit. I also had to run the machine through 3 cycles (I used the “medium 1-3 eggs” marking) before they were cooked through. That said, I bought it to boil eggs, the poach function was an added bonus, but one I won’t use again as it was too much of a faff.
The egg pricker is sharp enough to get through the shells with ease (I know I keep comparing it, but this pin is MUCH easier to use than my old one!); there’s no twisting the egg back and forth trying to break through, and it’s not sticking out risking pricking your finger. I like that the little handle for the egg tray is removable, it’s a nice little design, and it’s sturdy when locked in place.
Everything fits inside the lid (if arranged as pictured, if your poaching cups are the other way up then it’s a squeeze) and all-in-all it’s a compact, good quality little cooker.
