Silentnight 2000 Pocket Gel Pillowtop Mattress | Medium Soft

Width is smaller than stated it’s 130-132cm max we have big gap on the side of ordinary double bed length is ok, 190cm. It didn’t smell bad like some mattresses do.
Cool or warm? In the middle, comfortable feel. It is medium firm. Quality of fabrics are decent. Edges are not soft.
NOT SO GOOD : mattress developed sagging area on one side where the hips were within two nights 12.8st person. Clearly faulty springs. Now and then springs noisy, not all the time.
Overall would be good mattress if not sagging problem, might need to request replacement as it was faulty.

since purchasing this mattress i have never slept so well, i have bursitis in my hips which is painful to lie on and i suffer from sever back pain when i lay down, this mattress has helped me sleep all night and ive had no pain, some nights i have slept a whole 9 hours solid, the mattress just moulds to your body shape, it is excellent quality and value for money i would highly recommend it to anyone who has a lot of pain and sleepless nights.. best mattress ever bought!

Previous to this I’ve had an old, semi-known brand of mattress and just used mattress toppers for extra comfort. I decided to bite the bullet a few days ago and get a new mattress because of the aches and pains I’d wake up with and how difficult I’d find it to actually fall asleep.

Calling this mattress “comfortable” would be an understatement. It’s been a few days now and my sleep quality is brilliant. No more back pains, no more neck pains. I go to sleep comfortably and wake up comfortably. It’s actually helping me during the day too because I feel more energized. This mattress is a 6.5/10 for firmness which is exactly what I’m looking for (as a side-sleeper) but if you sleep on your front/back, you might need something softer. It’s a good mattress but you should be aware of a few things, listed below.

The first night I slept on it, there was a weird chemical smell that attached onto all my bedsheets – it turns out you have to air the mattress off for 24 – 72 hours before you sleep on it. Make sure you do this because the smell can be pretty strong.

Also, for the 3 months, rotate the mattress head-to-toe (don’t flip it over) every 2 weeks or so. After that, I’d just do it once a month. It helps the mattress adjust to your body and will make it last longer.

I’ve bought some breathable bedsheets, pillows and a premium duvet too. I’d shop around and see what you can buy – there’s no point spending hundreds on a new mattress only to be let down by the rest being sub-par.

I purchased this mattress in January 2017 but have waited till now to do a review as there doesn’t seem much point on reviewing it as soon as you purchase it. Most people looking at a mattress review wants to know what it is like in the longer term. I am pleased to say I love this mattress. It is so comfortable, both when you first sleep on it and over the following months. The gel layer is a bit squidgy for the first few nights but after that, it either settles or you just get used to the feeling. Either way, the gel layer with all the pocket springs underneath it make for a very comfortable nights sleep. Too comfortable in fact, you don’t want to get out of bed in the morning! I find the gel layer is great for sleeping on your side as your shoulder and hips sink slightly into the gel layer whilst the pocket springs makes the mattress extremely comfortable and supportive without it being too soft. I have recommended this mattress to several friends. I was a bit concerned about buying a mattress without trying it out first but I am certain I made a very good choice when I purchased this mattress.

Update August 2020. Still loving this mattress. It has kept its shape well and I will buy another one for the spare bed shortly.

Update November 2011. Still love it. I will buy another one the same if I have to replace mine. I have recommended this mattress to so many people. Good hint: Use CamelCamel website to track the price and get it at a lower price.

Jury’s still out, but there’s a few things that should be mentioned (written 17th Aug 2016)
1) The title says ‘Indulgence’, yet the zoom of the photo says ‘Affinity’ which I believe is a newer model. There’s no mention of such a pseudonym anywhere on the mattress or package label. That’s not to say the spec isn’t identical, but curious as to what product I actually have from Silentnight?
2) We were set on buying a Geltex mattress in a showroom to have that cover, but when we saw this and the price was almost 200GBP cheaper than competitors, we chanced it and made the purchase. So far so good.
3) Not sure what smell others have talked about…this may be something to do with the fact the model’s don’t line up with the product description.
4) THIS IS HEAVY MATTRESS! 51kg. AND BELIEVE IT! You do not want this to accidentally fall on your child.

I think the tufts force this mattress to be a slightly hard mattress than I was planning to get. Mesmerised by the price, I didn’t pay attention to the image.

Happy so far. I certainly don’t toss and turn, no do I have an uninterrupted nights sleep, unless I desperately need to go to the loo.

I bought this mattress after having constant back pains from a natural latex (very expensive) mattress. After trying some of the geltex series in some furniture shops, I decided I would go for this, but couldn’t find the exact 1850 pocket springs series (tried the 1000, 1400 geltex)… So bought it only after reading the great reviews and hoped it would be like others described it. After a lot of research, I decided I would go with a geltex, as it is newer technology, (I hoped it would be better then the classic memory foam, and it is…). About this mattress I can say and assure you that this is the best mattress ever I have ever slept on, my strange backpain magically dissapeared in just 1 week…(my job ties me to chair like more then 8 hours a day so my back has a lot of suffering from that).I have to say that I was in doubt as on some sites it was described medium to soft, on other medium…I was kind of afraid that it would be too soft for my husband, which is a tall guy (1,92) and about 115kg…but I assure you it is not soft, in the way that it gives you just the right kind of support, and I was so releaved that my husband liked it… actually he now leaves his couch and comes into bed earlier just because it’s so comfy!!! The geltex layer on top gives the softness and you just feel, from the first moment you lye down that it hugs all of your body in some way, your back, your legs… it is really really a great invention and combination with the 1850 pocket spings! It is a tall mattress, I bought some sheets that were 35cm deep, so everythink ok…
When it arrived it was very well packed, in perfect condition…and the smell that everyone so much talks about I just couldn’t find it… It is not so tragic as some describes it and I really don’t understand why they make such a big fuss… We actually slept on it from the first day…
This mattress is perfect in every way: it gives you support, (without it being like really firm and strong, or harsh – I have a kingsize miracoil mattress in my son’s room with memory foam on top, again from silentnight, and I find it really strong, don’t really like it, so I would agree that the 1850 pocket springs are really perfect, I just cannot explain it…they just mould after your body weight without your body feeling like it’s been pressured against something… ) it is soft on the top layer, just enough for you to sink in it and you just don’t want to wake up!!! My husband told me that the next morning he woke up…And also I would add that given his weight, beeing near him in bed, the mattress does not sink (you know, when sleeping with somebody heavier then you and the mattress makes you lean towards him) so I can have also a really goodnight sleep, I hope you understand me!
In oder words, I assure you, you will not make a mistake buying this mattress without trying it (like I did, after reading lots and lots of reviews)…and not even the height doesn’t bodder me, because this actually makes it what it is…the best mattress ever!!!

First things first:
Delivery – this was straight forward without any problems at all. The delivery guys were friendly and put the mattress upstairs without any difficulty at all. They then took a photo to show they had done so, perhaps because of the difficulties other people have experienced.

The mattress: There was a very faint chemical smell and I left it airing all day in situ with the window open. The mattress was fine to use that same night.

It is without doubt the best mattress I have bought to date – better than the memory foam one by Silent Night because this geltex version doesn’t make me overheat. It is wonderful soft and comfortable, but firm and supportive at the same time. I have a disability which causes pain and for the first time in a long time I am able to stay in bed all night. I totally recommend the mattress.

Ok – so buying a mattress online is difficult – you can’t try it out as almost all the ‘brick and mortar’ shops have mattresses made by big companies, but they are exclusive to them, so something you find in a store is impossible to find cheaper online. As such, we took a risk buying this, but based our decision on getting an idea for what we like by trying many other similar ones out first. I’m leaving this review to enable others to have more confidence in what is an expensive risky purchase.

First off, the quality is great. It is pretty much a top of the range Silentnight mattress, so quality is expected. My wife and I never got on with memory foam as it feels like you are sleeping in quick sand, so we knew to avoid this! Our previous Sealy mattress had a latex layer which we liked a lot, but we were upsizing to a king size bed so needed to replace it. The Geltex layer on this mattress is very similar.

The mattress does feel soft but this is just the Geltex layer. The springs under this are supportive. It gives a soft feel but with medium support overall, which we really like. The ‘zones’ really do isolate movement well, something our previous Sealy was not great at. The soft top is great for those who sleep on their side (like me) and reduces the risk of numbness.

Since getting this we have slept so much better, except for when our 10 month old wakes – even then, getting back to sleep is quicker. We really love this mattress and although it was hard to bring ourselves to order this online without being able to try it, it was well worth the risk.

Due to a miscommunication, this was left in the kitchen (not the delivery guys fault). As others have pointed out, it really is extremely heavy. This combined with the size make it very difficult to get up stairs. Make sure you get this left in the room you want it in!

Having read the reviews on Amazon, I was actually surprised how firm this mattress is. It turned out substantially firmer than my previous Sealy Sotheby 1600 (allegedly “medium firm”). But that’s great, one of the reasons for replacing the Sealy was that I found it too soft at times.
The Indulgence 1850 itself is what you’d expect — a solid “no-turn” mattress in a quite attractive package, refreshingly departing from the typical bland all-whites (of course the looks don’t matter once you cover it up with sheets).
Quality of stitching and finish is very good, and priced at 500-600 it’s certainly a very, very good choice.
When toss and turn the Geltex padding seems to recover much quicker than memory foam (and perhaps that’s part of why I experience it as “firmer”).
The mattress gets me a good night’s sleep every time, no more aches. Feels “soft enough” without getting ridiculous, and is definitely supporting. All in all a quality item.

But my purchase was marred by Amazon’s choice of delivery company. The mattress was delivered by ArrowXL (another alias adopted by Yodel/HDNL), and the two delivery men refused to carry it upstairs (said “we don’t do that” when asked).
What’s the point of a 2-man delivery then?

I see other reviewers had more luck in that respect, but apparently the service you get depends on the mood of your local ArrowXL/Yodel crew. Shame on you Amazon. I imagine Yodel are the cheapest on the market, but you get what you pay for and I’d gladly pay extra for a proper delivery service if only you’d give me the choice. Anything but ArrowXL/Yodel/HDNL/whatever name they brand themselves this year.
