This is a fantastic little tool that will easily cut through branches on small and medium sized trees and shrubbery. The size is ideal when you have a small space to work in. My wife has used it more than I have and suggested we get another one as a back up which was the reason for buying this again.
Simple and really effective to use and after over a year of a lot of use – it’s still sharp and as effective as the first day.
Great product, really effective and at a good price.
Very happy with this saw. I like the safety of being able to fold the blade into the handle. Easy and light to carry around with other hand tools; trowel, hand fork, secateurs etc.
Ordered after Christmas. Arrived within 24hrs. Used it for the first time today. Very impressed. Comfortable, very sharp, lightweight and easy to use. Good value for money. Appears well made. Very impressed. Would recommend.
Nice and sharp with a comfortable handle and easily folded for portability and safety. Reputable manufacturer so there would be backup if needed.
Only flaw was Amazon’s “Over 18” policy – having paid by Credit card, Amazon-checked by Experian, I was unfortunately not at home at the first delivery and therefore the courier was unable to leave the saw in the “safe place”. After the checks along the way, I thought this was unduly restrictive for a garden tool and on this occasion very inconvenient – better safe than sorry I guess.
Excellent compact lopping saw which I use for pruning branches between 20-50mm.
Blade is very sharp and locking mechanism is robust and safe.Very comfortable to hold and cuts on the pull stroke.Very pleased with purchase.
The blade is wickedly sharp and is narrow and strong enough to get in between other congested branches to thin out. Also sturdy enough to take out a 5inch trunk on a conifer. Handy to carry in a back pocket just in case.
The telescopic pruner and saw set is fantastic in performance and price. I particularly like that the unit is built with standard replaceable parts so spare screws, replacement rope, no problem at all.
I tried to saw through 3 inch branches and I did do it eventually! Due to the length of the blade, the saw kept leaving the branch. This means you have to pull a shorter stroke to keep the blade in the wood. Its a bit annoying that! However, it is only a pruning saw and it coped very well with smaller branches less than 2 inches. The blade folds neatly into the handle and the complete saw can then fit into pockets of my overalls. I will buy a bow saw for larger branches….
When it turned up I though “oooh a bit small” but then I used and it was brilliant. Cut through the branches dead easy. The safety cover is a great idea. Sharp and lovely to use
I am really impressed with this saw. It does exactly what I hoped it would. The handgrip is comfortable to hold and makes the saw easy to control. I like the ability to fold the blade away for safety when not being used but locks securely into place when being used with no tendency to fold up and trap my fingers. I like the double pull/push cutting action of the blades. The saw is bigger than I expected. The description I think quotes a length that I assumed would be 50% handle and 50% blade but it is for the folded handle.
I wondered if I would be able to cut some overgrown conifer branches with this – approx 8cm. Did the job without a lot of effort. The blade has a really good curved angle which makes it easier to cut through the bigger branches. Lightweight. Excellent buy.
Men often laugh and then you come back with a large branch in 5 m and they become inteested. Persuaded a lot of people to buy this. I love them. Easy to carry and easy to use and great quality
The photos are ‘before’ and ‘after.’
It took about half an hour to cut up this large branch which had come off one of my trees.
Sawing the bits up to a thickness of about 4 inches, (10 centimetres) is pretty quick. 4 inches or more takes longer. You do need to apply sone pressure and it cuts more on the pull towards you strokes.
It us very easy to hold with a rest for your thumb to enable pressure to be put on. Obviously not as quick as an electric one but very handy and light. Ideal for someone like me, an older woman.
It folds up in a two step procedure which ensures you don’t accidentally cut yourself. That is a very good safety feature.
I bought this because I am slightly nervous about using an electric one, and this one is really light.
It will help me to keep my garden pruned.
So glad I choose the Spear & Jackson, Kew Gardens saw, when there was so much choice on Amazon. Really well made, with a nice locking action. Cuts through small/medium branches with ease. 5*
I had a small dead tree which had fallen into another tree, causing it to significantly bend. I did not have anything that I could get into the areas to cut the dead branches to release it so bought this. It arrived this morning and 15 minutes later my living tree had been released. This is really easy to use, enabled me to use in some awkward places to reach, is very sharp and cut through some quite thick branches. I am really delighted with this product.
just what I needed to get to all the roots of bush in my garden. Cutting through the thick wood and multiple woody strands.
My only concern would be the buildstrength as when under pressure the blade flexes in the handle!
Used it for cutting back trees. Cuts fairly thick branches. Useful that it folds up so could keep it in my pocket whilst climbing ladders and whilst using cutters. Good sharp blade. It could do with being a bit more curved so it cuts better in both directions. Bright colour so easy to find on the ground too.
This is great I had a tree that was getting a bit out of had easily removed a lot of the small branches with this. I also like the fact it locks shut when not in use.
Do a fair bit of shrub and hedge trimming and thought I’d try this saw due to the number of 5 star reviews.
If you’ve never used one of these type of saws they are excellent for pruning and trimming. Small, light and sharp they are far superior to the old bow saw and can replace loppers. Once folded they are safe and easy to store in a pocket. Easy and nimble to use they cope with substantial branches with ease. You have to remember these saws follow the Japanese custom of cutting on the pull stroke.
However, my usual pruning saw is a Silky F-180 which at around double the price is well worth the extra. The blade is much sharper and easier to pull, the handle more comfortable, the locking mechanism better and spare blades are easily available.
If you have a smaller garden then this Spear and Jackson is fine, superior to others I’ve tried in the same price range, and is good value for money. But if you’re going to use the saw often then it is worth paying more.
This is perfect for shrub pruning where you need to get into tight spaces. The curved blade folds neatly into the handle and locks away. It is comfortable and robust. As long as it’s cleaned properly after use it should last me several years.
Priced at 9.99 as at 29th November 2020, this has to be the best value garden tool I have ever bought in my 60+ years.
It really is sharp and whilst it is small, it is ideal for those pruning tasks where trying to manoeuvre your hand and the saw, without cutting or being blocked by another branch is possible. The saw blade itself is very sharp and whilst I would use it primarily for cutting branches less than 2″(5cm), i have cut branches of up to 5″(12.5cm).
I undertake a lot of pruning in the autumn and see this saw as just the final part in my armoury of chain saw, pole saw, loppers and general saw. We have a fair degree of trees in our garden and adjacent land and therefore I can see this item getting a lot of work. I have attached an image of our garden to give you some idea of how large our garden is, with three oaks, fruit trees and the most challenging of all, holly trees.
One final thing, from a safety perspective, this saw is of an ideal size to keep in a pocket with sufficient depth, however did it not have a locking mechanism for when the saw is folded, there is no way I would put it into my pocket – brand new it is very sharp!! A great garden tool and I would award it 6 stars if I could.
Used it to remove branches that were too thick for loppers and too awkward for a normal saw and it was superb.
Very sharp, light and comfortable to hold and use.
Some reviews mention it being flimsy – it’s not a builders saw so if you just saw straight, don’t waggle it and don’t be aggressive, it’s brilliant.
Very sharp saw made easy work of cutting the smaller branches off the tree cut the time in half from when I was using my old saw nice design to fold it up with safety feature a good idea of using a bright yellow colour when you put it down it’s easy to find again well pleased with it.
I just love this product. As a lady of a certain age I struggle to get a general saw to work, but this is amazing. I cut a 5inch log with it the other day and it worked very well.
I would definitely order another one when this one finally gives in, but that is looking a long way off as I have used it now for 3 months and cut down many branches and folded it away and it still looks and works like brand new.
Great very light product.
Excellent pruning saw. Cuts beautifully with no effort, a joy to use.
A really nice safety point is the ‘stop-lock’ to the blade as you close it. The blade stops an inch from closed and you have to press the unlock button again to push the blade fully into the handle. This is obviously to protect a careless closing of the blade on your fingers.
I know we all think we’re careful, but I consider this an essential safety feature.
