I guess you get what you pay for. It’s cheaper than other alternatives but it’s still pretty good. At 1080p the refresh rate is good and it’s fairly consistent but the delay is quite irritating.
This video capture device is ideal for high-definition streaming and recording. Its user-friendly setup and wide compatibility with various systems and devices make it a versatile choice for content creators. The additional features like the built-in microphone and LED indicator enhance its functionality, making it a practical tool for various video projects.
I sued this with OBS to capture some old video 8 to disk. It came with everything I needed to do this which was good (other than OBS, which is free online and an RCA to HDMI adapter which I had for a previous capture card.) The quality was reasnoable but thats likely just the old tape and conversion from RCA to HDMI. Did the job!
The ability to capture at 1080P and pass through 4K content ensures high-quality visuals. Its plug-and-play setup is straightforward, compatible with various devices and operating systems. The compact design makes it easy to carry, and the inclusion of a Type C cable is a practical addition. The performance is stable, providing clear images without lag or flicker. This device is ideal for content creators looking for a reliable and high-quality capture solution.
UGREEN Video Capture Card
This is a nicely made, simple to use video capture device that’s easy to set up and gives some great results.
The main attraction for me with this device is that it has HDR pass through, meaning you can set it up to capture, for example, gaming footage from the PS5 while playing a game in HD on your TV while simultaneously recording the footage to a PC.
The capture device itself comes packaged complete with a decent length HDMI lead, a USB-C power lead and a small user manual. The device also has inputs for headphones and a microphone, both useful if live streaming, which this is also great for.
Software will be needed to be downloaded to your PC/laptop and it’s recommended you use OBS Studio, which is free and gives decent results.
I won’t go in to the workings of this device apart from to say that once it’s set up you can record footage in a variety of resolutions, up to 1080p at 60Hz, which at this price point for a video capture card is more than sufficient.
Capturing footage from a PS5 is as straightforward as it can get. I’ve not yet tried this for live streaming, but may well do so in the future.
It’s a small video capture card that’s easy to use, has an HDR passthrough loop, is easy to set up (no derivers needed for Windows) and it gives perfectly adequate results.
I’m very impressed with the quality and performance of this device. It’s very easy to set up, just plug and play, no drivers needed. It supports 4K passthrough and 1080p recording.
The video is smooth and clear, minimal lag or distortion. The audio is also great, it has a 3.5mm jack for microphone input and output
It comes with a USB A and a USB C cable, so it works with most laptops, tablets, and phones. I also like that it works with various streaming and capture software, like OBS. It’s very versatile and practical, I can use it to record or stream anything from my TV stick, TV box, Switch, DSLR camera, or even my phone.
Needed another video capture card for my PC. I don’t play games but use it for recording and streaming from my DAW (digital audio workstation).
The unit itself is pretty small and well made, I have to admit to being very fond of Ugreen products. Conveniently, the unit is powered by USB, so there is no need to have a separate power supply. This also works from a hub as the laptop I use in the main only has three USB ports, which is annoying.
The maximum capture you’ll get with this is 1080p at 60Hz, but that is more than good enough for my purposes. You’ll need to consider something else though if you want something capable of capturing 4K, for example.
The only thing that is disappointing is the quality of the included HDMI cables, I ditched those for better quality ones and it really does make a different, particularly at this price point.
All-in-all, really pleased and it does the job I want it to do well, so no complaints.
A compact small video capture box that does a decent job. It comes in a sturdy looking plastic case and is complete with the cables required, you should note that the unit may get dragged around by the cables if you’re not careful setting it up although it seemed to be quite happy floating in the air – not something I would recommend!. It sits in the middle of aa pair of HDMI cables and captures the video that flows past. While it can handle a 4K stream, the output is 2K at best. (1080p). No power supply is required as it draws power through the USB cable from your computer.
Incidentally, it’s a USB A – C cable – an adaptor is supplied, but a C- C cable of decent quality would be a better bet as would a high quality HDMI cable. Both as supplied are fairly basic.
The required software is OBS, which is downloadable on Macs and PCs. I had this already for another digitiser and I know, once you’ve figured it out that this works well on my Macbook. You should take the trouble to (1) read the instructions for this software since it isn’t always obvious and (2) give yourself time to set up and check operation, including using a microphone if that’s required before attempting to run it. And finally, make sure the host computer has enough power to run the software effectively and ideally there’s nothing else running as the quality of the image can vary. (Based on previous uses of OBS.)
I tried this out with games and other sources. It worked fine although you should note from the listing “HDCP signals; Blu-ray Disc games on PS4/PS5/Xbox are incompatible” there is a noticeable lag from the introduced by the device. Enough to put lipsync out but not terrible. To be honest people looking at the captured video didn’t really notice.
In summary this is a great device for the money, you’ll have to spend a lot more to get better. Recommended.
We are just starting out, dipping our toes into the world of in game capture and thought we would give this a go.
Setup is easy, hdmi from Xbox (or other device) into the box. Feed from box to pc where it is detected as a standard capture device and record on your favourite software.
There is a delay so use the second hdmi output to watch and play what you are recording.
Nice bit of kit no trouble capturing at 1080p. I am still getting to grips with it, finding the best capture software and settings but so far so good.
So let me get the worst bit out of there, there’s about a 1.5 second delay but apart from that it does what it says on the box 1080p 60 fps so I’m happy with that for streaming since I was on 720p 30fps so basically doubled so now my viewers are going to be more happy with my streams.
This is a Ugreen product and like all of their other offerings you can feel it’s well made. The moulding are well made and there is not dodgy gaps or sharp edges. In the box you get
1 x Capture device.
1 x HDMI to HDMI cable.
1 x Short USB A to USB C cable, but it does have a USB A to USB C adaptor too.
1 x Leaflet with a connection diagram.
1 x Very small instruction leaflet.
1 x Card with instructions about OBS Studio.
The unit didn’t ask for any drivers or anything and shows up as Ugreen HDMI Capture in both the camera and “Sound, video and game controllers” section of Windows device manager.
If you want to capture or listen to audio you’ll need to provide a suitable cable and pair of headphones. The unit does come with 2 3.5mm jack plug sockets on the rear for this purpose.
The recommended software to use is the open source OBS Studio which worked fine for me. The only thing I would say is that the sound quality is not the best but it’s certainly not bad, it could be me being a bit picky. However for a unit that costs 31, you really can’t complain. This could just as easily be a software issue. The unit can certainly deal with 1920 x 1080 at 60fps. I can’t say about 4K as I don’t have a 4K source or a 4K monitor.
Capture cards are usually extremely expensive for 1080p capture but this is amazing value for money from a high quality brand such as Ugreen (I have bought my phone cables and accessories from Ugreen before). Comes in lovely premium packaging and the quality of the capture device and provided cables are overall well made. Works seamlessly with OBS if you are an avid streamer however I personally used it to capture and archive old TV show recordings, VHS and DVDs through my HD upscaling players and this worked just as well for that purpose. Fantastic added touch of power through USB-C than an additional power cable. Only complaint I’d have is it came with no box and with a shipping label slapped onto the box of the actual product, which is a let down and could have damaged the capture card in shipping. Luckily, it did not.
Tried this out on a switch, ipad Pro as well as a laptop. In all cases I managed to record the screen output to file.
This then provides you with ability to stream and upload for example gamplay from the switch, or record presentations.
Build quality seems pretty good and the video quality output is pretty good too. Just know it’s limited to 1080p
Overall, at 26 that’s really good value for a decent (though I’d say relatively budget) video capture card.
This is a nicely presented video capture card, designed for capturing video such as a game you are playing on a console, so you can stream it or make into a video for viewing or uploading later.
This card has a few nice features:
1. It is powered from the USB connection to your PC or Mac, so no separate power supply is needed.
2. It has an HDMI pass-through output so you can view the game on a separate screen as well as on your PC or Mac.
3. There is a microphone input and an audio output, which can be convenient.
The unit is quite small, around 12 x 6.5 x 1.8cm. It is also lightweight, possibly too much so as it can get pulled here and there by its cables. The package comes with an HDMI cable and a USB cable; this is USB-C to USB-A but comes with an attached adaptor for USB-C to UBS-C.
I tried the device and found it worked well with low latency and good performance with OBS, the recommended software. It did not get too warm in my tests but cooling could be a problem with the lightweight plastic case.
A key point to note is that while the HDMI input and passthrough can be up to 4K at 60Hz, the captured video is limited to 1080p at 60Hz, much lower resolution. This makes videos more manageable but of course there is loss of quality. HDCP must be disabled for it to work.
The HDMI cable supplied is not certified and you may prefer to use a higher quality one. I’d also have preferred the USB cable to be the other way round, ie. a USB-C to USB-C with an adapter for USB-A, as USB-C is the newer standard.
If you are the type of gamer that likes to capture your footage and then share it online, this budget friendly little box will work as a reliable companion. To use, it is very simple — plug it into the mains, hook up the USB cable to the device you plan to capture recordings on (PS4, Xbox, your PC etc.), then use software such as XSplit or Streamlabs to output the image.
The quality isn’t too bad, especially at 1080P 60fps streaming, the visuals are sharp, fluid and well-defined. As a content creator, your audience will not be disappointed.
You can find far more expensive options on the market that will excel over this little box but the value you get here for 30 (even less if you buy at the right time), cannot be faulted.
I got this UGREEN video capture card to stream and record my gameplay from my PS5 and Switch, and I am very impressed with the performance and quality of this device. It supports 4K input and 1080P output, which is perfect for high-definition gaming and streaming. The video capture card has both USB-A and USB-C ports, which makes it compatible with different devices, such as PC, Mac, laptop, phone, and tablet. It also has a loop passthrough function, which allows me to play games on a bigger screen while capturing the video.
The video capture card is very easy to use, as it is plug and play and does not require any driver or software installation. It works well with various streaming and capture software, such as OBS, XSplit, Twitch, YouTube, and more. The video and audio quality are excellent, with no lag, distortion, or delay. The video capture card is also very compact and portable, with an aluminium-alloy shell that is durable and heat-resistant.
This is the best video capture card I have used, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to stream and record their gaming or other video sources.
Lets be honest, your not here because you know exactly what you want, chance are, you have been asked by the children for a capture card, or are thinking that you might want to start your own streaming channel.
Those that know what they want, will have already done all their research, read views and discussed the benefits of various cards in dedicated chat groups, so this review isn’t for them.
In a nutshell, this little device sits between the ‘games console’ and a computer, and records everything on screen, whilst allowing the user to add realtime chat (VoiceOver). It can both record, to be edited and uploaded later, or ‘streamed’ to a specific service, where other people can watch the game play in realtime, Amazon have their own ‘streaming service’ called ‘Twitch’.
Ugreen as a company, have been around for years, are well respected, with a trend towards affordable yet quality products, I have used their cables for many years without issue.
Most games consoles have the ability to record ‘on screen play’, however some have limitations to length of time the recording can be, for example, the Nintendo switch only records for 30 seconds at a time, so this device overcomes those issues.
The device itself is very compact, has a HDMI output to the monitor or TV, one HDMI input for the games console (this is the 4K passthrough), and a USB-C output to a computer, this is where the recording or streaming data goes, and also where the little device gets its power, so no external power supply is required.
On the front of the device, you have a headphone and separate microphone input.
The device is ‘plug and play’ in that you don’t require any further drivers to be installed to run it, you do however need some sort of software to record or stream the footage… whilst ‘Quicktime’ on the MAC is supported, I have not been able to get that to work, and to be honest if it did, I think it would be very limited in what you could achieve.
I use a program called ‘OBS’ which I believe you will find other reviewers recommend. Firstly its completely free, or known as ‘Open Source’ and more importantly, Ugreen have included a dedicated setup guide with the product for this software package, so its very straightforward to get up and running.
The device itself only records in HD or 1080p, not 4K, which again, may be an issue for serious players, but honestly, its perfect if you are starting out in this area of content creation.
There are many ‘unboxing’ and ‘setup’ guides online for this capture card, together with ways the device can be used, so you can be safe in the knowledge that its well supported.
This versatile piece of kit from UGREEN is made to the manufacturer’s usual high standard. The build quality is robust – the shell is tough yet lightweight, and the heat-dissipation vent renders the internal electrical components less likely to overheat and suffer damage, even during long hours of continuous use.
The capture card is ideal for gamers who want to livestream their console gameplay via a laptop/PC and/or to record the game footage for future editing and broadcasting. The HDMI input isn’t restricted to use with only consoles, though. It can equally be used with DSLR cameras, allowing the user to effectively turn a DSLR camera into an ultra-high-resolution webcam – perfect for folk who want their vlogs or other video broadcasts to be of a higher calibre than most traditional webcams can deliver.
The front side of the box has three ports: HDMI in, HDMI out, and USB-C, whilst on the other side are two 3.5mm audio ports – one for a microphone, the other for headphones. Capture quality (video and audio) on my Asus RoG Zephyrus G15 gaming laptop is flawless: flicker-free video and clear audio.
The current price of 35.99 is excellent value for a peripheral of this quality. The fact that the capture card comes with a 5-foot HDMI 2.0 cable and a 1.5-foot 2-in-1 USB-C-to-USB-C/USB-A cable makes the overall value even better.
No criticisms. Excellent kit, which does exactly what it’s designed for and does it well.
Pros
– Very simple setup with OBS
– Great quality
– No need for external power
– Very compact form factor
– Great USB C to C/A cable
Cons:
– Only HDMI support, it would have been nice to see display port (or with an adaptor)
– No 4k 60hz support, which is now a standard for mid to high end PC gaming
– Very thick HDMI cable
Overall, a decent product for the price, especially for YouTube uploads at 30hz. However, if you require 4k60hz captures, this is not the device for you.

UGREEN has delivered with this and produced a product that’s not only quite simple to use, but also of high quality.
Setup was really easy, which I was surprised by.
I have know been using this for a couple of weeks and capturing the footage I have has become easier and simpler the more I get used to using it.
Really impressed.

Still worth it for the price I’d say.

As a casual gamer and I mean that literally I found this thing very easy to setup and use.
The instructions were simple to follow and everything that was needed came inside the box.
You even got instructions relating to OBS the opensource software used to record the gameplay from my XBOX.
My only gripe was the instruction book / ;eaflet was extremely small in size.
The gameplay that I got from the card was clear and fun to watch back. Was it 4k I have no idea. ALl I can say was it was crystal clear to me.
