I quite like this diary as someone who isn’t great at making habits. Only takes a few mins as it says on the front. Would be great to have a few more ‘goals’ in their, like daily goals, weekly goals at the beginning of the week, and perhaps a random thoughts page. Overall, would buy again!
I bought this book because a few months ago I was feeling quite low and despite not really being a ‘gratitude diary kinda person’ felt at the time that I had to do something so gave it a go.
Honestly it’s really helped and having now completed it it’s amazing how much you gain from doing something like this daily.
Whether you like journaling or not these 6 questions each day feel achievable and there is no pressure to write reems of info, keep it short and focused. I particularly liked the extra questions you get every 5 weeks that are really thought provoking.
Having to document something means you put the effort into changing your behaviour and attitude and it also then forms a lovely momento of your journey and I’m in the process now of reading all I’ve put over the last few months. It’s so interesting to look back at the highs and lows and shifts.
I highly recommend this little book if you are feeling low, lost, negative or generally feel you could do with some support to shift your mood.
This is a beautiful book. It is a joy to use and really is quick and easy to use daily. Plenty of helpful information to read written by the author. Really insightful content. I have tried lots of journals in the past and this is by far the best.
I highly recommend this journal and I will buy another once mine is completed. Excellent value for money.
This is by far the best diary/journal I have ever seen and used in my life. Is perfectly crafted, full of very well thought of and intentional content and the quality of the journal is great. Will buy again when I finish it.
What a beautiful , wonderful , helpful diary ..
I felt amazing after reading the first few pages !! I can’t wait to get into this well written , Comforting diary .. it’s given me an outlook of hope for my mental health . That yes I can actually feel better over time !!
I’m going to buy more of these diary’s as gifts for my friends ThAnkyou
I added this to my morning routine a month ago and I have found it easy to write in every morning and it is a good tool for training my mind to start each day positively. I find it less easy to return to every evening but I do it when I remember. Overall I’m very impressed with this. It also links to a newsletter from the company which is good.
The quality of this book is astounding. Every element – from the material and layout to the printing and content – surpasses my expectations. It’s clear that Dominik has poured his soul into his work. The meticulous attention to detail is evident in every aspect, making opening the diary feel like receiving a warm embrace. This, in itself, is incredibly soothing.
Love this 6-Minute diary! It’s a wonderful tool and resource to help one stay grounded in gratitude and to make positive changes to their life and its trajectory.
This diary is packed with on point knowledge, information and wisdom to set you up for an upgrade and positive transformation with daily insightful and inspiring quotes to set you up for the day ahead!
Wholeheartedly recommend this diary to anyone embarking on a personal transformational development journey.
Huge THANK YOU to Dominik and his team at urbestself
I used this book during a period of anxiety at the beginning of lockdown. I genuinely believe it had a dramatic impact on my overall mood and perspective on life. The introductory sections provide the ‘why’, which gave me the confidence to continue with the book. This helps your brain maintain a focus on the positives and focus on what is important. Couldn’t recommend highly enough.
Disclaimer: I was already a daily gratitude “practitioner” before getting this diary. What I really like is the simplicity to implement. All you need is 3m in the morning and 3m in the evening, that’s it. For me shifting thinking about gratitude in the morning and making me thing how I can be in control of my day before I actually start the day itself was really impactful. A lot of the planners out there function as “calendar” based, but most people have their calendar in their phones / email. I wanted something to allow me to retrospect and keep an eye on the positive habits I want to implement and this diary is precisely what I was after.
Also love the weekly questions and challenges, which so far have not been repetitive. I wish there was a version just to keep it going without the intro of the concepts for those of us that just want to carry this on.
I will probably buy the kids edition too for my 7y old
It has been 1 year since I am using 6 minutes diary and it’s other editions and I would say that the development of journaling habit was one of my takeaways for the year of 2023. Thus, I recommend this to anyone who wants to practice it. Moreover it’s a great tool to practice gratitude and appreciatio
This was a gift to another.
I’ve used the Clear Journal (Baron Fig) by James Clear and it’s also excellent. I recommend you also give it a try. Personally, however, though I’ve recently started using the 6MD, I prefer it. I find it is structured in a way that favours consistency and ease of use and tracking.
Both journals have their place and I recommend anyone interested and even uninitiated to give each a try, one after the other; experiment and see which one suits you best.
There’s a significant preface component, briefing you on the research science and wisdom behind 6MD, but it’s worth reading and will help set your ‘mental stage’ and orient you towards how to get the most use and value from your journal!
So far, I love it and the first weekly exercise was unexpectedly profound. I look forward to using it each day.
Best of luck on your process!
I am not one for diary’s or journals but I decided to give this a go. I have used it every morning and evening since getting it. I like the fact that it makes me think about the day and what I am grateful for and how I can improve my life.
The only thing I would slightly change for subsequent purchases is the amount of reading at the front. It’s great for your first one but maybe for subsequent purchases there could be a summary instead?
This has been a game changer for me. Self reflection is essential to self improvement and this has created a positive base for that. Having used it for several months, I recommend it to everyone. The answers to your best self are internal and this helps you reach there. What more do you want?
I love the idea of this and have used it daily since I got it.
Starting the day really thinking about gratitude and how you are going to make the most of the day starts you off so well.
I found myself sometimes struggling with the same daily questions and coming up with new things each day but then it really gets you thinking. One of the points is ‘your good deed for the day’ and I have found myself consciously doing something good that day for someone which shows the book is doing its job.
I would recommend but also think this is a lovely present. I bought one for my mum who is loving it.
There is a hefty bit of reading at the beginning which I have seen some people review as a negative but I loved reading this bit!
I was looking for an appointment diary & ordered this by mistake. This is a journal in which u are invited to write your daily thoughts in. It has no days or dates in it. The book is off high quality paper & attractive. I gifted it to my fianc who thinks it will be quite good to use. He hasn’t started using it yet.
It’s quite helpful, but maybe overwhelming of information in the beginning. Depends really on what people need and want. The negative for me was the texture of the fabric on the cover. While the colour is beautiful the fabric makes me not to want to touch the notebook. Not for my sensory needs I guess.
This diary is simply gorgeous. The amount of time, effort, love, thought, and knowledge that has gone into it outstanding. The author really cares about the statistics and process about living a happier life and creating positive habits. Only downside for me would be that beginning NOVEL Yeesh. It’s so long. 70+ pages long to be exact. I read all of it as it states in the diary to read it all as it will be helpful in the long run and will help you get the best use out of the diary – I bought another one of these as a gift for somebody and they told me they didn’t read it due to how long it was, which is a shame as I feel they won’t get the same benefits as I will hopefully get from it having read it all. I feel it has far too much information and this could be cut down MASSIVELY. It was hard not to just simply skip it all and get straight to the morning and evening routine. Sadly, for this reason, I wouldn’t buy this diary again as a gift.
Arrived covered with only a thin plastic wrap over book which was ripped on top and delivery man left it outside in the rain. Now it is stained on top. Other than that the book seems nice and worth having. But disappointed with the stain now and for the price you pay for it it should be better protected and wrapped for delivery
I am absolutely hopeless with sticking to new things that are good for me long-term, whether it’s eating healthily or exercising – but this is brilliant. It’s such an easy habit to get into, as it requires minimal time input and no equipment (well, other than a pen). I mean, who doesn’t have a few minutes each day?
When I first started using it, I found it incredibly difficult to think of good deeds for the day or good things that happened during the day, which says a lot in itself, but this makes me more aware of the good going on in life. I still struggle occasionally, but like the fact that this forces me to find the positive. It’s making me noticeably more positive as time goes on and I’ve recommended it to lots of my friends and colleagues.
If you’re on the fence about buying it, I’d ask ‘what have you got to lose?’. I’m sure you’ve spent more on other potential ‘fads’ in the past, but this is a long-term investment, that doesn’t go off or go to waste. Go for it!
I decided to buy this after a very traumatic experience. My mental health was suffering and I felt I needed to focus on looking at the positive things. This has helped me so much. It doesn’t take much time so I don’t feel overwhelmed by it. It is good to journal things that have happened in more detail but focus on the little positive steps towards recovery as well as realising I have a lot to be grateful for. I have also used it as a daily focus for my 14 year old son but he does it verbally. It’s lovely to hear him talk about things he is grateful for. It has helped us both understand that even when life seems really tough there are things to be grateful for and great things still happen. It makes me think of the saying “Enjoy the little things because one day you will look back and realise that they were the big things”. I have found this so useful for the last six months that I have now bought the follow on version to continue for the next six months. I would recommend this to anyone who is struggling and perhaps may feel overwhelmed by having to write a lot each day. This is meant to only take 3 minutes in the morning and another 3 minutes at night but there is space to record longer thoughts at the end of each week and at the back of the planner. It’s really good.
I bought this diary at a point where I was burnt our professionally and personally. This diary has some reading at the beginning to explain how it works and evidence to back it up. You then begin with a little self assessment scoring everything from your overall mood to finances and relationships from 1 to 10. You will repeat this month by month and it’s a good way to see how you change.
This is a very structured gratitude journal which makes it easy to do. Literally 3 mins in the morning and 3 mins in the evening. What you are grateful for, a positive affirmation in the morning and similar in the evening. There are weekly questions that really make you think.
I loved this diary. It has changed my life for the better. It has a habit tracker and has helped me now also incorporate daily meditation into my life.
I recommend this to anyone, struggling or not. For those of you who have read Rangan Chaterjee’s “the stress solution”, this diary helps you with most of the recommendations in the beginning of the book. You won’t regret getting it.
I bought this to go with a couple of books for my children (the 5 minute diary for the eldest and the 3 minute one for the younger child)… My initial objective was to get them to be grateful for their dinner… even if it’s NOT chicken nuggets… be grateful you have food, you have warmth, you have comfort, even if the dinner had REAL chicken in it, as well as mushrooms!!! … and that seemed to work, we got over that, not entirely of course, but a lesson has been learned (somewhat) in that department…
The unexpected by product of this experience however, is that THIS book grabbed my attention… it’s not ‘just’ a gratitude journal which you write stuff down, it’s the preamble, it’s the all the information up front – the bit about why you’re doing it in the first place…
That’s what hooked me…
And then practicing the ritual with my daughters each day.
And at first, it was clutching at the obvious; grateful for food, water, clothes, warmth
But then something started to change, unexpectedly so… I started to dig deeper and feel more positive…
My gratitude now involves; realising my self worth and what I mean to my children, recognising what we have, not what we don’t, grateful for opportunities and more meaningful, deeper reflection when it comes to positive affirmations….and one of my good deeds today, was simply ‘Acceptance’… and ‘Acceptance with grace’…
I love this book.
I have recommended and even bought copies for friends and colleagues…
I am more positive, more energised, more determined and dare I say happier in myself… I didn’t even realise I needed changing, my days had been focused on other people and things and work and jobs which needed doing, that I forgot myself along the way. But I’m back now… and it feels great 🙂
I never ever thought I would a) do a ‘gratitude diary’ and b) never believed it would make any difference to my life. Wrong on both counts, even if one of the three things I’m grateful for is ‘the lovely sunshine’ it makes me realise, that I really am grateful for the nice weather. I also felt a bit ‘boring’ as all I was writing about was my lovely family and how much I love them, but writing things down has made me realise that I am loved too! What a revelation that was! I have gone from being suicidal to feeling so positive in a few months and I credit this 6 minute diary with some of this change in me. The changes in me are subtle and every week, you are asked to review parts of your life and bit by bit, I feel happier and more loved than I ever have.
The only bit I don’t like about the diary is where it asks you to write ‘how will I improve’ I don’t want to spend even seconds reflecting on my shortcomings, I’ve spent over 50 years doing that. We all have shortcoming or things we don’t like about ourselves, this journey is about learning to accept who I am (I can’t say ‘love myself’ yet, but I’ll keep trying) not carry on criticising myself, so I cross that question out every day! Other than that, I love this diary, it’s expensive, but maybe that makes me use it rather than waste my money and put it away in a drawer. I’ve had so many people comment on the change in me and I have bought one for my brother as he sounded interested in my ‘recovery’.
Mixed feelings about this book. I had been reading reviews for a while and busting my brain over and over again not knowing whether to buy it or not, I think some (most) of the reviews are very over exaggerated and my expectations were off the scale, I finally got it and it’s just a basic diary with the same questions on every page which I find boring. Especially the daily question “what are you grateful for”? Not that I am not a grateful person but I find myself being grateful for the same thing everyday……my kids, life, and can never think of another one because being grateful for life covers so many other things which I don’t see any point writing in……boring …..some reviews described the quality of the pages like they were describing a dessert theh bought from M & S! The quality is good but nothing special.
My advice is if like me you have this in your Amazon basket and are unsure whether to click buy or not just wait until it is on offer because you will feel less disappointed then.
Love this little book, it’s become part of my morning routine when I sit with my cup of coffee looking into the garden, and evening routine. I’ve had it for a few weeks and notice I’m looking for more opportunities to help people whenever I can.
I also like the habit tracker , which I had forgotten about till halfway through. I have practised being grateful prior to using the book but it’s nice seeing the list written down here. I like the focus it gives me and I love the daily quotations. I loved the 90 pages of psychology, although I knew most of it already, it was good to see the research cited as well.
The only things which somewhat irritated me, was firstly his confident statement that “one may confidently assume that any physician knows a lot about nutrition”. As a qualifed BSc Nutritionist who is evidence- based and has worked with GPs I can say that this is categorically not the case, as my GP clients have told me so themselves! That’s why they come and see me.
Secondly, I found it rather ironic that he says there’s no “esoteric wishy-washy” in the book yet he says the book is based in part on ancient wisdom- it so happens that a lot of esoteric philosophy comes from ancient wisdom itself! So these 2 comments really made me question his claim to expertise on everything he wrote and actual breadth of knowledge. Better not to make sweeping statements if it’s not your field of expertise or you haven’t researched it properly. Would have given it a 4.5 because of this but didn’t want to be mean and give it a 4, so gave it a 5.
Other than that would highly recommend this journal.
This beautiful diary arrived the day after I placed my order (I do have amazon prime though). It truly a beautiful diary with many many promps and questions to get you truly appreciating your day and living it to the full. I love how before your diary says start, there is quite a large introduction to the book and information on how to get the most from it. It’s a case of writin for three minutes in the morning and three minutes when you go to bed which is doable for even the bustiest people. I am a nurse working all manner of shifts, a mother to a 6 year old girl and a wife and I find I have more than enough time. I also like how you get a personalised email from the author not only thanking you for the purchase but also offering any further assistance if you need it and explaining you can contact him personally whenever about whatever! I am going to really enjoy this book, I just know it and it will bring much more positivity to my life and help me ‘see the light in dark times’. To anyone who wants to try to just be a bit more positive and understand yourself more, I would highly recommend. And did I mention that the book/diary in itself is beautiful made?!? Anyway, I would highly recommend this book and I am looking forward to my journey with it!
I have been using Hal Elrod’s The Miracle Morning Journal with excellent results for the past three years. This Christmas I bumped into Dominik Spenst’s The 6-Minute Diary, and I have been using it for just one week. I can hardly believe it, but it’s even better than The Miracle Morning!
I love The Miracle Morning – I will continue to use it and to recommend it every time I can, because I know how good it is.
But The 6-Minute Diary is in a different plane — deeper, wiser, more inspiring and revealing. The prompts are so well thought-out that in just the space of a week I have made two discoveries that completely reframed important aspects of my productivity and my relationships. The 6-Minute Diary is also much more pleasant to work with -and to look at- than The Miracle Morning — much as I love it, The Miracle Morning has all the charms of an accountant’s spread sheet (and they haven’t bothered to improve the layout in years) whereas The 6-Minute Diary has been crafted and designed with an artist’s sensibility. Am I being superficial by pointing out such things? I don’t think so. This is a tool you will be using every single good or bad, happy or sad day of the year, so it only helps that it is a beauty to open and look at. I know the beautiful pages make me more thoughtful and considerate when I write in themi.e. they nudge me to think harder before I spoil their pristine surface. Is it only me? If you had to scribble a note, however short and simple, would it make any difference if you were writing on the corner of the back page of yesterday’s newspaper or on a sheet of lovingly prepared vellum? This is what I mean — you’d force yourself to think a bit deeper before you spoiled the page. And that only helps when reflection is the whole point of the exercise.
I have read hundreds of Self-Help books, and taken too many courses. I have certificates on NLP, Mindfulness and Erikssonian Hypnosis, read and written extensively on Psychoanalisis, Theory of Knowledge and CBT. And this is why I can say that the 64-page introductory section that Dominik Spenst has prepared for The 6-Minute Diary –which you could skip, but I would urge you to read attentively- is the briefest, more engagingly written and scientifically supported introduction to the topics of Positive Psychology, Habits and Self-Reflection anywhere. I was already impressed by this when a few days after I bought the Diary, Mr Spenst sent me via email a very pretty and useful pdf titled The Golden Morning Routine, which he personally sends to all customers, and which comprises five scientific arguments for the beneficial effect of a morning routine, as well as examples of the morning routines of 25 successful people, from politicians and other pop stars to Marcus Aurelius, Stephen Covey and Immanuel Kant.
The 6-Minute Diary promises to be “a priceless journey into the most exciting and emotional realms of your own memory” and to allow you to “follow the footsteps of your personal evolution”(p.15). I believe it will deliver. Having only used it for a week, I’m already looking forward to more discoveries with The 6-Minute Diary as my companion.
Personally, I’m not a great fan of self-help books that promise you the world. I’ve seen too many of them and usually there wasn’t much behind all the talk — even if you did the walk. The 6-Minute Diary, however, was a big surprise! The following 5 points are the highlights for me:
1) The theoretical part at the beginning:
This “manual” is a must-read and the quotes in it a great inspiration. You don’t need a background in psychology to understand this theoretical part which contains really practical tips as well. I was pleasantly surprised about how much research there is behind this diary. Every single part of the daily routine is well justified and researched . It’s just the right quantity and quality.
2) The 5 weekly questions:
This section is brilliant every week anew. There are questions, which you would probably never ask yourself but when you do, you reveal so much about yourself. Wicked! My favourite weekly question so far: “What advice would the ten-year-older version of yourself give to you?”
3) The mind-set switch:
After only a short period of time I started noticing how differently I live through the day when I spend these few minutes in the morning to express gratitude and to visualise my day ahead. Using the diary on a daily basis simply sets you into the right mood and helps you focus on your own needs.
4) A journey to your past self:
I love reading what I put down a few weeks ago, it’s like a journey to the person I was then. Can’t wait to look back at it in years’ time!
5) The E-Book:
I’ve received it via email shortly after purchasing the diary. It partly repeats sections from the 6-Minute Diary itself which actually isn’t bad to refresh your memory. The highlight however are the 25 practical examples of morning routines. They motivated me to modify some parts of my own routine. All in all, pretty well-researched and interesting.
Last but not least, I would like to make two suggestions for improvement:
I use some pressure when writing and sometimes can see my writing shimmering through on some pages. So if I could make a wish I’d like the paper to be a little bit thicker. Not too much though because that would make the book thicker and less handy.
Also, having the two ribbons is fantastic to mark my current day and sections from the theoretical part which I like to read time and time again. However, it would be great to have a third ribbon for the monthly check or the weekly five questions.
All in all, I highly recommend this book (though I’m someone who can’t be persuaded very easily).
