I bought this mainly as a document scanner which it does very well but I have ended up using this as my main webcam for things like Teams meetings as it out performs the camera built in to my 6 month old Dell laptop !
So here’s the thing, in low light, like most cameras, this looks pretty grainy but in reasonable light such as a nicely lit office or near a window then it’s a step above anything else I’ve used.
The thing I like the most is that I use a second screen attached to the laptop and because of the way this camera extends on its very sturdy stand, you can position it behind your monitor and have it appear over the top so you can Teams on a bigger screen and easily shift the camera around.. if you then want to show something from the real world then the camera can be tilted/moved with no fuss.. it’s a great device where you might otherwise need a little tripod or similar and they just get in the way.
It’s got an integral light but nothing powerful.. it does help a bit but not the sort of thing that would replace a nice ring light or similar.
The focus is a little slow but in reality that doesn’t hinder it and there’s a way to use there free software that allows manual focussing so wasn’t an issue for me.
It folds up into a very neat, slim design that slips in the laptop bag perfectly and the stand design is both very solid and rigid.
Bought this and I am happy with my purchase.
Delivery was quick only spoilt by the delivery driver delivering it to the wrong flat, obviously had lazy legs.
The software allows you to have a webcam and the document camera side by side, unfortunately I couldn’t get my webcam to work as it is ancient and barely works with windows 11.
So I bought a Logitech C920 HD Pro Webcam which was a perfect match so now I can broadcast displaying my notes and showing my face.
The webcam picture quality is good and does the zoom thing using the software.
All in all if you buy the Document Camera you should be happy with it and the Logitech C920 HD Pro Webcam makes you look like those people who are content creators on youtube
Not used much yet but is quite well made and will do job bought for to visualise up to A3 area.
Took a while to figure when opened out you need to twist the camera part 180 degrees to have the camera pointing away from the base in a Z shape otherwise it would be mounted over the base.
Didn’t work with my USB hub so nearly sent it back but got a 2m long usb extension cable c C to A with a converter so can connect directly to Mac Studio. Via a hub the device is not found.
Be prepared for extra cabling if you want to position a long way from your computer.
Ideal for close connection to a laptop and ideally portable if you need to move about a lot.
Software similar to many such devices – does the kids effectively.
Really impressed with this camera which delivers (almost) everything it promises. It is steady and secure without being overly heavy. It captures flat documents and table top perfectly. It plug and worked with my Windows 10 laptop without additional software working with my Windows Camera software and with Zoom.
I installed the free software as I want to use it slightly differently to the recommended use for time lapse videos of work in progress. I thought I might be able to use the stop motion for this. Whilst the stop motion is present and does provide the shadow of the previous frame so you can line stuff up perfectly it is not the best. You can one session open and cannot save progress only export into a final video if you want to keep progress. It’s sort of basic and I expected a little bit more.
However for it’s intended purpose it is really excellent. Very high quality and reliable, powered through the USB connection.
I managed to connect it to my Android phone by using a USB camera app. This limits it’s use to that app and that app’s abilities. It cannot for instance connect to Zoom or camera apps on Android as it uses a different technology. But if you want to do straight recording of a video then a USB camera app will let you record on your phone.
I am a teacher and have tried so far 3 different brands and they all promise good stuff but lack practicality but I am pretty pleased with this.
Came in secure box and easy to setup, I have Mac at home and windows at my tution centre and was straight forward installation on both. Simply plug and play now.
My biggest likes are being so portable, so handy and great quality.
On the technical sides the Integrated Presentation is a pretty neat feature.
Hope that helps
This unit is solidly built, so it stays where you put it. The arm can be bent in several different directions, so you can find the sweet angle and spot on your desk. When the unit isn’t in use, it can be folded up very flat, and it can be carried in the felt case supplied.
At 4k, the video quality is very high definition.
It is a great advantage to be able to use it as a webcam and overhead camera for carrying out demos. It’s easy to adjust the inbuilt LED light, which is good quality and works on conference calls without dazzling.
You can use it as a generic camera, and as such it seems to work with a variety of software (though I tested it only with Windows).
When using it as a scanner, it has a sharp focus, producing a high-quality scan of any document or picture, showing all its detail.
So, several good things going for it, but a few gripes:
-It sometimes struggles with video calls if you have shadows or a dark background, which doesn’t create a good impression.
-When using on a Mac, you have to download from a third party website. You put up with this for Windows, but with ioS you expect to benefit from superior security, and when using an item costing 100 you should really be able to get the software from the Apple app store.
-It is rather heavy to carry around
-The appearance, which is otherwise good, is let down by the visibility of the USB cable connecting to the camera; you are provided with clips to hold it to the frame, but makes the camera unsightly and makes it look as if you have loose cables on your desk.
-It should be USB-C ,not USB 2.0
Overall, good value, but a few shortfalls prevent it getting five stars. To look on the bright side, it provides an improvement to the built-in Facetime camera on a MacBook Pro.
I’m impressed with this little device. It arrives in a card box, well protected and surprisingly heavy and well built. OK, it doesn’t weigh a ton, but I’m so used to receiving similar home/office type gadgets that are so lightweight and plasticky that I am surprised this time.
Anyway, you can plug and play install as a web cam and it works fine. I have a 150 webcam already, so very capable and clear, but TBH I would choose this VIISAN because it offers just a bit more for less cash. You may not use the additional features all the time, but good to know they’re there as back up.
For example, I actually used it alongside my webcam for one specific online meeting. I could use my standard software to drive my normal webcam meet up, but also use the scanner to beam an image of a hand drawn flow chart. Normally, I would make a digital version in lucidchart and then use that image. But as this was a discussion draft, it saved me 45 minutes or so just beaming in the original scribble!.
The VIISAN VisualCam software seemed to work fine, no specific grumbles there for me. There’s also a built in microphone and an illumination lamp. All in, this is a surprisingly cheap addition and is great for home working.
This is a handy camera if you want to photograph or display documents or any other objects on your desk.
Good:
+ Feels very well made and packs down small. It’s eminently portable.
+ Quick autofocus
+ Clear enough even for fairly small text. See the pic of the manual attached to this review.
+ Acts as a generic camera so you can use it with whatever software you like. The free Viisan software might be handy as you can annotate, record etc, but it will work just as well with teams, zoom, discord etc.
Mediocre:
= It’d be great if the USB cable attached to the base instead of the camera itself, but that is a minor quibble.
Bad:
Nothing.
Notes:
The camera comes with a micro-usb to usb-a cable, so you’ll need an adapter to use it with modern macs.
Overall: I think this is a good option if you’d like to record or stream whatever’s on your physical desktop.
