I’m really liking these mini V Mount batteries. I do a lot of work on the Mongolian steppe in the summer, and as it can be many days before visits to anywhere with a power outlet I need to carry everything I’ll need with me. A couple of full sized V Mount batteries can really weight down a pack when you’re doing a lot of walking, but at around 350 grams this mini V Mount is a godsend.
We’re still deep in winter where I live so I’ve just been playing around with it so far, but the signs so far are very good that this will become a favourite battery on long trips. With D-tap, USB-A and USB-C it’s got almost everything I need.
The build quality is maybe a touch more plasticky than other V Mount batteries I’ve tested, and I can’t say I love the boxy looks and the small LCD screen (which may be a little tricky to read in bright sunlight), but the sub-$100 price tag makes it a very attractive option.
Solid 4 stars. Almost the full 5.
This is a great battery. It has a digital reading on it to see how much battery life you have left. 2 D-tap inputs and USB ports that work well in any scenario.

I recently received this V-mount battery to use, and I have to say that I am extremely impressed with how much power is in this little brick. Although it took a while to charge (get at 65W or higher rated USB charger, folks), it provided stable power to my equipment. I had connected an external monitor and a full frame mirrorless camera, turned them both on, and recorded for a half hour just to see what the drain would look like. In that entire time, the battery only went down by 2-3%. That is incredible to say the least.
Connection options are great. You have two D-taps (which I used for the experiment above), and USB C and standard USB A connector built in. Of course with this being a V-mount, you can expand your ports by using your favorite battery plate.
My only gripe, if you can call it that, is that all the covers for the on board ports are made of a very thin silicone. I don’t think these covers will last too long if you are working in harsher condition than a studio. Please keep that in mind.
Overall, this is a fantastic battery, loaded with features and ports you will use, with enough power to last you the entire day. Pick it up.
An easy charger to slip in the bag for travel and great you can charge two batteries simultaneously. Would have been good if it came with necessary cables though, which mine did not.
I have a bunch of NP type batteries that I use to power monitors, wireless follow focus and other video gear. These Viltrox are my favorite. I find myself using them on my monitors even though I have bigger ones in another brand. Why, because they are quick and easy to charge. I also like how the white pops on all my black equipment.
The ‘VILTROX Dual Smart USB Battery Charger 36W PD USB-C’ arrived in a branded box, with instructions.
A simple but effective design which using USB C to connect to a power source.
I have included picture of my NP-F970 6600mAh attached. The battery was as good as flat when I started to charge it, and was at only 1/4 charged after 4 hours. This is probably due to being powered via the USB C port of the computer.
It would have been nice to see greater physical support for larger batteries such as a ‘shelf’, and a suitable USB C cable so it can be used straight out of the box.
I do a lot of cinematography work and my gimbal rig typically carries the Atomos Ninja 5 LCD Monitor/Recorder which has a built-in fan and can pull some amperage on the batteries.
I tried these Viltrox batteries on the Ninja and they worked great. They lasted quite longer than I thought they would.
I would definitely say, probably one of the best features about these batteries is the fact that they are rechargeable via USB-C. I have some similar batteries by different brands that can only be charged via the proprietary contacts, and sometimes it’s a pain to have to carry around a proprietary charger just for those batteries. These batteries can be charged with any USB-C power source that’s available.
I also love the battery level meters on the back side. Simply push the button and the meter will tell you where the battery level is. That’s super handy when you’re out in the field and don’t have a charger with meters near by.
These are definitely excellent value for the money and seemed to be built very well.
While the bright of the white batteries are a bit off putting for those who have OCD or just have to have everything match. The quality of the batteries are not compromised. I’ve been using these on speed lights and Field Monitors. They fit as expected and last as long as the name brand counter part.
Love these npf batteries. These are 2200mah with a charging voltage of 8.4V. They have a type c port that can be used to charge other accessories or charge the battery itself. The indicator lights on the inside of the battery are bright and easy to read. Just push the button and you can see the amount of power it has left. Love the white color, I only wish there was more accessories that came in white as well. As far as power consumption, I’ve been able to run this on my low power monitor for a 4 hr run and gun shoot, and still had half life left. If they came with a bigger battery capacity I’d get those too.
I use these with three different Viltrox lamps and a field monitor. I have a half-dozen of these now, and I just relish the peace of mind of knowing that I can’t run out of juice over a weekend shoot. The USB C charging ports alone are worth the investment, and I charge a pair at a time on a dual USB charger. If you use these Sony-style batteries, then grab these while you can. You can put a price on peace of mind, and it happens to be the MSRP for this pair of batteries.
I’ll be honest. I’m not a third-party battery person. Third-party batteries don’t always offer the same actual capacity or the same safety features that are built into OEM batteries. Yet Viltrox is a known brand that makes some interesting third-party lenses. And this battery includes a useful feature that I have yet to see incorporated into OEM batteries: USB-C charging. I decided to give this battery a try.
NP-F970 style batteries, including this smaller capacity NP-F550 style, are commonly used for powering video and lighting gear. Originally designed by Sony, they have become kind of an unofficial industry standard. Having them around is extremely useful. Yet having to keep track of yet another type of charger for them is not. That is why being able to use the same USB-C charger that powers my camera, my iPad, my next iPhone, and plenty of other studio gear to charge them is a godsend. One less thing to keep track of and to weigh down my bag.
So far, performance has been good. It has proven to be a suitable substitute for the Sony-brand NP-F970s I usually grab. In fact, I always grab the Viltrox NP-F550 first, gladly leaving the Sony chargers in my storeroom. (Again, to be clear, any device that takes an NP-F970 also takes an NP-F550. The 550 is a smaller, lower capacity alternative.)
My only criticism of this battery is that it comes with a USB-A to USB-C cable instead of USB-C to USB-C. This was a concern when I first saw it. Some devices only charge with this particular style of cable and not with a standard USB-C to USB-C. Fortunately, charging works fine with a standard USB-C cable.
So do I recommend this Viltrox battery? Absolutely. I look forward to the day when a single, multi-port USB charger is all I need to keep my entire kit powered up. This battery is part of that future. But I will add a caveat. For use cases that require a greater capacity, an NP-F970 size battery is going to be a better choice. It will also be bigger and heavier. Choose the appropriate size for your use case. Viltrox is not the only company to offer USB-C charging in an NP-F970/NP-F550-style battery. There are alternatives with LCD displays and USB-C, USB-A, and USB Micro-B ports all on the same battery. For me however, that is too much. I don’t require legacy ports or fancy displays that potentially affect both power draw and reliability. The simple four-LED display on the back of the Viltrox battery tells me all I need to know. Good job, Viltrox. Five stars.
I recently tried out the VILTROX 2 Pack Replacement NP-F550 2200mAh Batteries, and I must say, I couldn’t be happier with this product. These batteries have exceeded my expectations, providing excellent performance and convenience for my camera equipment.
First and foremost, the larger capacity of these batteries is a significant advantage. With a capacity of 7.4V 2200mAh/16.28Wh, these batteries offer extended power for my camera, ensuring that I can capture every wonderful moment without interruptions. Whether I’m shooting photos or recording videos, these batteries have proven to be reliable and long-lasting.
One of the standout features of these batteries is the integrated charging port. This thoughtful addition adds a level of portability and convenience. With the integrated charging port, I can easily charge the batteries using a USB Type-C cable, which can be connected to any phone charger or power source. It eliminates the need for a separate charger and allows me to charge the batteries on the go, making them ideal for travel or outdoor shoots.
The smart LED display on the batteries is another useful feature. With four LED indicator lights, I can easily monitor the battery power in real-time. The LED lights indicate the battery level in four stages (0-25%, 25%-50%, 50%-75%, 75%-100%), providing me with a clear indication of the remaining power. Additionally, the red indicator light shows the charging status, ensuring that I can keep track of the battery’s charging progress.
These batteries offer various charging methods, giving me flexibility and convenience. I can power them using a wall charger, car charger, or even a portable charger. The USB Type-C 5V/2A max input allows for fast charging, fully replenishing the batteries in just 2 hours. It’s important to note that the charger is not included in the package, but with the widespread availability of USB Type-C chargers, it’s easy to find a suitable charging solution.
The compatibility of these batteries is extensive, making them versatile for different camera models. They can be interchanged with the OEM Sony NP F970, F960, F770, F750, F570, F550, F530, and F330 batteries. This wide compatibility ensures that they work seamlessly with various Sony camcorders, including the CCD-TR series and more. It’s always a good idea to check the description for the full compatibility list to ensure compatibility with your specific camera model.
In terms of safety and reliability, these batteries are CE, FCC, and RoHS listed, providing peace of mind during usage. They are built with multiple protection features, including short-circuit protection, over-voltage protection, over-charge protection, over-discharge protection, and over-current protection. These safety measures ensure the longevity of the batteries and protect both the batteries and the connected equipment.
In addition, I have been using these VILTROX batteries to power my Portkeys PT6 DCI-P3 IPS Touchscreen 5.2” On-Camera Field Monitor, and they have proven to be a perfect match. The power provided by these batteries lasts for a good amount of time, allowing me to focus on my assignments without any concerns about running out of battery power. This combination of the VILTROX batteries and the Portkeys PT6 monitor has become an essential part of my camera setup, providing me with a reliable and efficient solution for on-the-go shooting.
The Portkeys PT6 DCI-P3 IPS Touchscreen 5.2” On-Camera Field Monitor itself is a high-quality monitor that offers excellent color accuracy and a responsive touchscreen interface. Its compact size makes it easy to mount on my camera rig, and the DCI-P3 color gamut ensures vibrant and true-to-life colors in my footage. With the VILTROX batteries powering this monitor, I have the confidence of a reliable and long-lasting power source, enabling me to focus on capturing the best shots without worrying about battery life.
To summarize, the VILTROX 2 Pack Replacement NP-F550 2200mAh Batteries are not only versatile and reliable power sources, but they also prove to be an excellent choice for powering devices like the Portkeys PT6 DCI-P3 IPS Touchscreen 5.2” On-Camera Field Monitor. Whether you are a professional photographer or videographer, or simply an enthusiast looking for dependable power solutions, these batteries offer the capacity, convenience, and compatibility you need for your camera equipment. Invest in these batteries, and you can confidently embark on your photography or videography projects, knowing that you have a trustworthy power supply to support your creative endeavors.
Overall, the VILTROX 2 Pack Replacement NP-F550 2200mAh Batteries are a fantastic investment for anyone in need of reliable and long-lasting power for their camera equipment. With their larger capacity, integrated charging port, USB Type-C compatibility, and wide compatibility with Sony cameras, these batteries offer convenience, flexibility, and excellent performance. Whether you’re a professional photographer or an avid enthusiast, these batteries are a must-have accessory for your camera gear.
These batteries are interesting in the fact that they have a USB-C charging port built in allowing them to be charged without a dedicated NP battery charger. Which is cool in case your on a shoot and need to charge one all you need is a standard USB-C cable.
While this is good and can be useful I found the included documentation on charging a little confusing, It states the charging indicator will always be lit so that would make one think that when the other 3 blue leds are lit the battery would be fully charged, and on disconnecting the cable and clicking the built in charge capacity button it does show 4 leds lit, however the battery is not actually fully charged.
NOTE: you must leave the battery on charge till the red led goes out and all 4 leds are lit blue while still connected via USB-C charging, only then is the battery at full capacity. If you charge it in a standard NP charger then none of this applies.
So once I found this out the batteries took a little over 2 hours to charge fully from basically dead.
With all that aside build is pretty good as far as batteries go, but tolerances could be slightly better as I found it to have some play on my monitor while others locked in with no play. Also note these are slightly thicker then a standard NP-F550 that has 2900mah vs 2200 (See Pics) not a big deal but thought I would mention it.
I think these are pretty nice batteries the white case is cool making these stand out from all your other batteries, but they do need slightly better documentation in my opin. I think they are worth buying if you like the built in USB-C charging option as this is what really sets them apart from others, as long as you charge them correctly.
