I loved the original with Gene Wilder, not a fan of the remake( I don’t like remakes ) but this was brilliant. An excellent score with some some lovely catchy songs. I think Wonka as a young man was very well captured by Timothe Chalamet and convincing. I love the old movie Musical and this to me has the magic of them. I’ve seen it twice but will defiantly be buying the blu ray. Too much violence and doom and gloom in movies nowadays. If you need something to make you smile and sing along this is for you.

Saw this movie in the cinema just before Christmas and loved it. Bought the download from Amazon Prime and will certainly be buying the 4K disc, with some excellent extras.A fabulous film for all age levels, fantastic sets, memorable soundtrack and sensational cast. Timothee Chalamet is outstanding, such a versatile and entertaining young actor. Wonka is fantabulous, don’t miss it.

Golden Review Award: 6 From Our UsersJust a warning that this is a musical. It’s still a pretty good film but I don’t like how all of the pre-release trailers (or even amazon’s own listing here) gave no indication that this is a musical. Bit of a dirty tactic on Warner Bros part to try and get more viewers in the cinema. Also there’s a ton of singing in this film so if you’re the type of person who likes to fast forward through this then you’ll be skipping through most of the run time, so this probably isn’t the film for you.

Still it is very good film. The plot is a telling of how Wonka got his chocolate factory and the people meets and struggles he faces along the way. Timothe Chalamet plays Willy Wonka closer to Gene Wilder’s version than Johnny Depp’s version, so he’s a more likeable character. There’s some great acting from Olivia Colman, Paterson Joseph and Keegan-Michael Key that creates some very memorable villain characters. Even the songs are catchy. I ended up having some of them stuck in my head for a few days after seeing this in the cinema.

Just consider before you buy that this is a musical first, children’s fantasy drama second.
