8Bitdo Ultimate 2.4G Wireless Controller, Hall Effect Joystick Update, Gaming Controller with Charging Dock for PC, Android, Steam Deck & Apple (Purple)
The Listing says it’s a 2.4gz Controller, which it is, but it doesn’t mention that it also has Bluetooth, as I bought this on the FireSale on Amazon Prime Day, it had me Jonesing.
The Controller itself feels spectacular, I’ve never felt a more Responsive, more Precise Controller before In my life.
My only Real issue is that the Android App flat-out DOES NOT WORK.
If you want to make your profiles, you GOTTA USE a Windows PC.
Which Sucks for me, because I have a Steam Deck, so I have to pull out like 3 devices that DONT WORK only for the PC Application to run perfectly Smoothly.
TL;DR: YOU CAN ONLY RE-MAP BUTTONS ON WINDOWS, NOT ANDROID. I HOPE YOU HAVE AN OPEN USB-A PORT!
My only real issue with it is it has no warning when its low on battery, so I’ve died a few times in Elden Ring when it shuts off unexpectly.
I love these controllers. This is my 2nd one. I previously bought the pink one and have been using it regularly for a few months. I love the analog sticks are hall effect. No more stuck drift hopefully. I had doubts about the pogo pin charging station but it’s been reliable and convenient.
I bought this 2nd one for couch coop gaming. The original pink one has no issues in the same environment and works flawlessly. I returned one of the purple ones as I was having disconnection issues.
When I moved the new controller to a different better shielded PC in a metal case I had no issues after a few hours of open world 3rd person gaming. The minis forum mini PC I used this new purple controller causes enough interference on the 2.4ghz band that the receiver cannot work reliably and would have phantom inputs and disconnect after a few minutes of play
I don’t know what 8bit do does on the 2.4 frequency but one is reliable and one isn’t. 4 stars for an excellent controller but the reliability will vary PC to PC depending on the RF environment.
Using this controller on both my PC and Steam Deck, it works really well and I love the fact you can put it on the charger and its ready to roll. Hall Effect sticks are also very precise and you will not get stick drift.
This is really an amazing controller. I absolutely love the way it feels and it just works flawlessly. Simple plug and play. This is the 2.4Ghz only – so I can’t connect it to my phone. But I am definitely getting a Bluetooth version as well because it’s truly perfectly balanced. Looks really awesome with the led charging light at the bottom of the dock, too. Thank you Amazon.
I’m so happy that they offer Hall Effect joysticks now. I’ve been a fan of 8BitDo for a couple of years and have multiple Switch controllers from them. This is my first PC specific controller and I love the feel and build quality, I also love the charging dock and integrated 2.4 ghz dongle storage compartment.
I will say that initially I had some connectivity issues with my PC, for some reason if I have the dongle plugged into the hidden compartment in the dock it doesn’t recognize the gamepad at all. If I plugged the dongle directly into the PC it would work fine, but then I would have to have the dock plugged in separately to charge hogging up two USB ports and defeating the purpose of it have its own integrated USB port for the dongle. I eventually determined that if I plugged the dock into one of the two dedicated Mouse/Keyboard USB ports that are seperate from the other banks of USB ports that it worked perfectly. I suspect that this has something to do with USB 3.0 vs USB 2.0 or 1.0 or maybe it thinks its plugged into a hub, I am not sure. I don’t mind having it plugged into the mouse/keyboard port since my keyboard works fine plugged into one of the other ports so problem solved. Just thought I would share in case someone else had a similar issue.
Love 8bitdo’s controllers overall, they are my go-to brand of controller.
Been a longtime supporter of 8bitdo and this is just another reason why I am. Love the controller and how it feels in the hands. Connectivity is easy and solid. Buttons, sticks and triggers are all really nice and responsive. Charging dock is nice and fast. The only “gripe” I have is that the controller is a lot darker in color than what the image shows but it’s still a pretty sharp looking controller. Been playing Risk of Rain 2 and some Tekken 8 with it and it’s great for both.
Incredibly easy to set up and use, and the charging dock is a nice feature. Connecting it to a windows PC to use the software was also very straightforward. Some of the button presses feel a little cheap, but an all around good controller.
Works amazing, software is easy and straight forward.
Only issue I had was if steam is running in the background while I’m using ES-DE you get double input but easily solved by turning steam off
Will likely buy another one at some point!
Awesome controller, it has basically everything that the regular Xbox controller has and more for cheaper. Only issues is that mine came with a small scratch (barely noticeable) and it feels somewhat lighter than a regular PS4 controller.
8bitdo support was great. I initially plugged the 2.4ghz dongle into the back of my PC and the connection to the controller was awful.
Good news is 8bitdo notified me that I could leave the dongle inside the dock (while the dock is plugged into the PC). Sincd I plugged it in there, I’ve had no connection issues since.
My only major gripe on the build is the sharp, scratchy edges on the inside of the handles. I don’t particularly like the tension on the triggers either, and those are scratchy and sharp as well on some edges.
I love love love the dock, the subtle light on the bottom showing it charging or not. The fast connection when you pick it up out of the dock. Glorious.
Price is good. Compatibility with Steam games, PC games, and emulators is absolutely superb. I finally have a proper PC gamepad that has a more reliable connection than an Xbox or Bluetooth controller, AND has the classic Xbox ABXY button layout which is synonymous with PC gaming.
I am pleased with my purchase. I would like to see a model in the future that addresses some of the build decisions I mentioned above.
I bought this cause my son loves the color purple but its actually a great controller.
We keep it docked to a steam deck and it charges then auto connects when its picked up, exactly what I’ve been looking fo
This controller is great. So far the only issue I have run into is getting it connected to the bluetooth of my Legion go but there is also a wireless dongle that can be plugged into a dock. Other than that this controller is very comfortable, the weight feels good, it has vibration functions, you can also program the buttons on the back but this is only done in their software so there is limitations to what can be done. I do like that they have different button profiles you can set up though. Also the charging base is pretty sleek a little bit hard to grab the controller if you have it in a tighter space though. I would hands down recommend this.
The controller itself is fantastic. Works great! However… I was eventually going to get the black one, but as soon as I seen a purple version, I had to get it. I like the color, but you can only tell its purple in a very bright light. I would describe it as a deep plum. I also have the Lilac purple ultimate controller without the base which is nice but still not my favorite shade of purple. If 8bitdo came out with a 3rd purple controller with a hue that is somewhere in between these 2 or maybe the see thru purple that I’m pretty sure they have done before with other controller models, I would buy it. I need my perfect purple controller…
All the buttons and the triggers feel great, and the joysticks are incredible. I do dislike the hard edge buut I rarely touch it when playing. The controller is definitely worth $50 and is super responsive. I also love the purple color I got.
It took a little while to get the connection on the steam deck, but once the deck finally recognized the controller the connection was solid. I did need to connect the 2.4g dongle directly to the USB port on the USB C hub to get the deck to properly recognize the controller.
Aside from the initial connection hiccup the controller itself is very nice. The buttons are crisp and responsive, the hall effect joysticks feel fantastic, and the triggers are *chefs kiss*.
The only remaining issue is that the 8BitDo Ultimate software doesn’t have Linux support so to do any remapping of the buttons/joysticks/triggers I’ll need to use the Android software. Not a massive issue, but it would be more convenient to do the adjustments directly on Linux.
All in all, I’m happy and the issues are manageable.
