I was looking for a portable DVD drive because new-generation laptops and desktops no longer come with CD drives. Still, some hardware manufacturers send firmware on CDs, which are hard to find on the internet. I am very pleased with the Anomat External CD DVD Drive. It is well-built and comes with two USB options: Type A and Type C. It works as expected, and I didn’t find any issues with 8cm and 12cm disks. Also, an additional set of cables is included in the package — what a thoughtful touch!
I purchased this as my fairly new laptop didn’t come with a built in disc drive and to be honest, I don’t think many do now.
I have kept lots of photos backed up on CD & DVD rom and was anxious to store them in the cloud.
As soon as I plugged it in and put the disc in I was able to see my files. No drivers are required and it is a simple plug and play product, so it’s perfect to pop in a bag and take it with me if needed.
The USB-C is widely compatible and the concealed cable at the back keeps my desk looking clear.
I also tried a music CD and a DVD which also played perfectly. Now CDs are apparently making their comeback, I’m delighted that I have a device that can play my collection.
Overall, I’m happy with this CD/DVD drive, the speeds are decent for the budget friendly price and it looks stylish, feels lightweight and so far has performed well, with no discernible, hotspots, and with consistent connectivity.
Bear in mind that you will need appropriate software to play your CD or DVD although most PC’s come with that now, and again appropriate software installed to burn them.
