Used to connect an LED PIR which is replacing an old halogen. The halogen PIR had the connections contained within, I was able to tuck this neatly behind the mounting. Perfect for the job.
I personally loved this little black box thingy…I was able to do the wire thing with my tiny girlie hands after my partner had tried for some time with his man hands and failed.
First time for everything on both accounts.
Apparantly it works well. It’s fiddly though, but not if you’re a woman/girl/dude with very small hands.
I used this to install a new security camera. 8mm cable on one end, 13A twin and earth on the other. The box is very well made, great fitment and the two screws to clamp the gasket down are spot on.
However, it’s not a lot of space to work in, and with stiff 13A twin and earth, frustrating. I got there, but honestly, a floppy 8mm cable is the limit. It serves me right, I should have looked at the spec more. However, getting the 8mm cable in was only slightly easier than the twin and earth. I don’t doubt the IP rating on it, but it could use a bit more room for manoeuvre.
Does what it says & easy to use. The main challenge will be if it is waterproof. Not yet been put to the test fully so will reserve final judgement until it has.
Easy to fit, with screws etc. included. Haven’t any rain since delivery hence the mid-range score on ‘waterproof’ and ‘water resistance’ but if looks are anything to go they should be 4/5.
A good product, fits the bill nicely when installing outside light, just a shame it does not include wall fixings which other products I have purchased do. It is designed to be installed outdoors so wall fixings should be a give
Got one of these to power / switch garden lighting and be smart controlled by Alexa etc.
They’re IP rated so are meant to be weather proof however the rubber olives in them didn’t quite cater for the thick rubberised outdoor cabling we had. Additionally when connecting them up internally there’s very little room to work with so you need patience and to be careful with the individual cable lengths of the live and neutral etc so it all fits in ok, in both the feed and outlet sides.
Pairing with the WiFi was the worst part. Getting it into pairing mode is a pain as you have to mess around with turning the power off and on to do it. Given the feed for that is switched inside the house that involved lots of running to and fro before the little blue light indicated it was in pairing mode and I could use the app to get it onto the WiFi and registered.
Otherwise it works great and having Alexa / smart controlled garden lighting is quite neat.
Not installec this yet, but looks like it will be fine, and I assume it IS up to the “IP66” rating.
What IS annoying, is I bought this specifically as it appeared to be on of the few of this spec that was also “white”. We have recently redone the rendering on our house and it is a nice, clean white, so I don’t want to make it look unnecesarily ‘cluttered’ with items like this, and the new security light (which IS white) that it will be used to connect up etc.
Item arrived and it is GREY. OK, so it is a light grey, but certainly NOT “white”. An the bar-coded packaging also says WHITE, so I don’t think it has ended up in the wrong bag. Rather basic ‘not as described’ error. I just hope it IS weather-proof, else I’ll be adding a further review….!
Received this today as I purchased a security light with a very small cable and needed to join another cable to it in order to reach the plug socket in my garage.
As my garage can be damp in the winter, this is definitely a must have.
The item arrived promptly and with only a small flathead and star head screwdriver I took to the job of fitting this which was a complete breeze to do in under 15 minutes.
A couple of points which will help you out a lot.
When you are fitting, remove the inner rubber seal from the box and replace it when your finished and about to close the lid. The seal is not glued in or held into place by anything and can/will fall out giving you a headache looking for it.
Make sure to unscrew the “outer” end of each side along with the tightner and put over your loose cable ready to be screwed into place when you have connected the cable to the block through the end hole. Then just slide both along the cable and screw it into the end of the box. It will be near impossible to do this without removing the ends.
Then just close the lid “remembering to replace the seal” and screw the 2 supplied screws into the top and you have completed the job.
Hopefully this review has helped you a little .
I’ve used this to join a few electrical wires for an outdoor light. First impression is its a bit plasticky but things do seem to fit well and my wires are held securely. Reviews seems good and it does have an IP66 rating i.e rated as dust tight and protected against heavy seas or powerful jets of water. Time will tell how weatherproof this is and will be addressed in a a long term update.
Update: 2 months. All working well. I did put some silicone around the the entry points and closures for added waterproofness.
Update: it’s been raining in Glasgow continuously for coming up to 4 weeks! Windy as well on occasion. No problems with this little box so far.
