Had no problems setting it up but it’s easy to miss that you need to add those little rings in the zip-lock bag it comes with to the stick bases. After the little bit of DIY and putting the stick bases into the controller, the included caps all snap easily into place and come back out with a light but deliberate tug. I’m excited to try out a whole bunch of other aftermarket Edge caps or even get my hands on the OEM ones, since these bases are compatible with anything the Edge is. It’s arguably the Edge’s best feature and I can slap it on any controller for $18 now.
The thumbsticks were simple to install. It took about 20 minutes total to complete. All the needed tools were included. The sticks have good texture to them. The ability to swap different styles of sticks is a huge plus.
You have to take the entire controller apart to install these, and the socket for the analog stick shaft is very tight, but once you’re all done you’ve got a great set of sticks with swappable heads. I’m using the short domed sticks at the moment and liking them much more than the stock sticks.
I purchased both the Robot White and Solid White colors trying to color match the white trim piece from the same company, and neither one does. The Solid White is too grey and the Robot White is too blue. So minus one star for that, but other than that, great sticks.
This comes with everything you need to disassemble your PS5 controller. if ,like me, you are entirely unconfident with doing this even thinking it’d be impossible for you, the youtube video guide they provide was a godsend, detailing every single step. I watched the tutorial fully before deciding whether I really wanted to try go through with it, and it didn’t look TOO bad! My main concern was losing a screw, which did not happen, my new thumbsticks were inserted within 10 minutes of receiving them, no fuss. I DID do this alteration to my old controller that had drift as that’s how unconfident I was, but after the whole process I decided to switch it over to my regular controller. This ended up being a super fun project by the end of it all and I get to enjoy swappable thumbsticks! I’m really reminded of the PS3 controller with the round thumbsticks, as that was my favourite controller ever, I’m overjoyed with this!! Have yet to experience a single issue within two weeks of gaming as someone who games a LOT.
The joystick have a polyurethane texture. It’s not rubbery or grippy but it will get slightly more gripy as the top layer wears out. Personally, I still prefer the rubber coating of the original controller. I do like the very tall joystick, it ads more travel so it’s easier to do very fine movement.
Replacing the joystick is easy as long as you are able to find a good video on youtube. It’s not hard but it would be a lot easier if the controller plastic casing would come off more easily. It would be nice if they gave a tool to help take the casing apart. The Phillips screw driver that comes with this set matches perfectly the screws of the Playstation Controller so there is very little chance to strips the screws. There is also a spudger but it’s too soft to be able to pry the controller apart. I actually didn’t need the spudger at all.
Over all, it’s not bad.
