The Onlyfire 26″ lifting tongs arrived simply packed in a plain cardboard box.
The tongs are made of steel and finished in a smooth black painted finish.
Designed as fire tongs for lifting hot logs etc from a fire, the tongs are hinged in three places and use a scissor action for control.
The tongs are of a useful size and being only 26″ in length are not too clumsy to use.
I have found that the tongs with their circular indented working end are ideal for moving a metal casting crucible for the final metal pour after the crucible is removed from the forge.
Great value set of simple tongs for anyone moving small hot objects.
I thought these might be a bit flimsy but to be fare they’ve handled to firepit logs really well. it cant really pick up small stuff it’s more for medium to larger burning log’s but they do the job and do it well. they haven’t warped from the heat or gotten bent out of shape yet.
Nice large size and easy to use. There is no spring mechanism to hold it open or closed but its weight and ease of use makes it very useful when moving things in campfires etc
These fire tongs are useful, they expand into a long distance so you won’t be close to the fire and avoid burning yourself. The material is made of alloy steel and it doesn’t damage easily.
It is 26 inch long, made of steel with powder coated surface. It has a scissor shape to facilitate handling the wood. It is useful for a fireplace and ideal for safely adjusting and picking up fireplace logs.
Such a good idea – think of the longest, sturdiest salad tongs and you’re on the right track. They are stiff though on first use and I need to use both hands to open and grip a log but its a gamechanger and such a good idea as usually I chuck the logs into the wood burner and it creates a puff of sparks and doesn’t usually go ‘in the right place’ and I get nervous of burning my hands (even though I wear a glove). These tongs provide a good distance between heat and hands and I’m sure it will soften up and be less stiff with more use.
I struggle with our current fire tongs as you need two hands to keep them pincered together. I had hoped that these ones might allow singled handed use, but not so. However, even though you still need two hands, they don’t fall apart easily dropping the log. Once these ones are pincered, they keep a really good hold on the log. Especially with the shaping at the end.
They are WAY easier to wield than our current ones, and so these ones are the ones I will always use from now on.
Because of the way they’re concertina’d together in the middle, they open to a VERY wide grip, enough for the biggest of logs, and they actually fold up (!) into an easier and much smaller shape for storing. Something I didn’t expect.
They’re pretty inexpensive for fire tongs and they’re made of some kind of steel alloy, not iron, but they are heavy and feel very strong and sturdy. I was able to pick up a large log and manipulate it quickly into the fire and release with ease. I’m actually very impressed with them, especially for the price. If they last, I’ll continue to be over the moon.
If like me you have a wood stove, or a real fire, then you’ll know that getting logs into the right place when reloading can be tricky with all the heat, and even using gloves can be challenging. Hence when I saw these I was keen to try them out
First impressions are good, the tongs come folded up, where there are actually pretty compact, however once you move them into the use position they extend a long way. I was surprised quite how big they become, its like a form of origami, which is impressive!
Performance wise the tongs are pretty heavy duty, and don’t deform when used, I’ve been able to pick up large logs with ease using them, and the grip is very good too, meaning the log isn’t going to slip out.
Overall for 11 these seems like quite a bargain, I would expect to pay at least double for this kind of quality and functionality usually, so I would definitely recommend them if you have a stove or open fire, or even a fire pit in the garden!
Sturdy enough set of tongs with plenty of length to keep your hands from burning by being too close to the fire. They were extremely stiff and difficult to open and close when they arrived but a drop of oil in each of the joints freed them up. I can’t open them more than 3 or 4 inches using them with a single hand so it’s really a 2 handed job to pick up anything larger than a few inches. Useful for the camp fire and may prove useful for those with a kiln or small forge. Good value for the size of tongs you get and they work well if you oil the joints.
