Golden Review Award: 2 From Our UsersI recently upgraded my gaming setup with the R75 Mechanical Keyboard, and I’m thoroughly impressed with its performance and customization options.

First and foremost, the 75% TKL design strikes the perfect balance between compactness and functionality. It offers a streamlined layout that saves space on my desk while still providing all the essential keys for gaming and productivity. The inclusion of a volume knob adds convenience and control, allowing me to adjust audio levels on the fly without interrupting my gameplay.

The gasket mount design enhances typing comfort and provides a satisfying typing experience. Each keystroke feels tactile and responsive, thanks to the hot-swappable Silver switches. This customization option allows me to tailor the keyboard to my preferences and swap out switches easily without soldering.

The RGB backlighting adds a dynamic visual element to my gaming setup, with customizable lighting effects and profiles that can be easily adjusted using the included software. Whether I’m gaming in the dark or during the day, the vibrant RGB lighting adds immersion and atmosphere to my gaming experience.

The MDA profile PBT keycaps provide a durable and premium feel, with legends that won’t fade over time. The US layout ensures compatibility with my preferred keymap, making it easy to transition to this keyboard from my previous one.

Overall, I highly recommend the Mechanical Keyboard to gamers and enthusiasts looking for a customizable and high-performance keyboard. Its compact TKL design, gasket mount construction, hot-swappable switches, RGB backlighting, and premium keycaps make it a standout choice for anyone seeking a versatile and immersive gaming experience.

This keyboard is well designed, compact in size, and makes a satisfying clack at the touch of any of its keys.

The backlighting function brings a personalised touch. Perhaps the only thing that could aid it would be wireless connectivity, though that would hike the price, and there is seemingly no delay with the usb connection.

Comes with key replacement tool, replacement for the volume dial, and a plastic dust cover which sits invisibly over the top.

Overall, great tactile and tech features make the product a tip top tapper.

This wired gaming keyboard by ROYAL KLUDGE features RGB backlighting, real mechanical ‘Silver’ switches that are hot-swappable, n-key rollover (anti-ghosting) and detachable USB-C connectivity. Importantly to note, this keyboard has a US keyboard layout, which may be a dealbreaker – The company does not seem to offer any UK keyboard layout variants of their products. This is a compact 75% layout reduced sized mechanical keyboard.

Firstly, the typing experience. This is my first time trying ‘Silver’ switches, which do not have an actuation point for the fastest response time. The keys feel light to press but still offer a clicky sound, but there is not any feedback from the keys as the only force applied is by a low resistance spring. These keys are mainly best for gaming where response time is key. Whilst it feels nice to type on, I do find myself missing some tactility that other key switches offer, but you can also get Red switches if you prefer so this just comes down to preference. They keys are a nice size and have a concave dome design for comfort with a matte textured finish, but I did find it doesn’t give my fingertips much grip and the keys are a little slippery feeling.

The key switches are hot-swappable and you get four replacement switches included, so if one does fail, it is easily replaced with the key cap and switch puller in the box. They keyboard uses MDA profile switches which have a longer range of travel, so the travel of the keys goes down quite far. In terms of typing noise, this keyboard is loud to type on, even with the dampening materials used. Thankfully though, there are no metallic resonance sounds that you often hear when pressing the spacebar, so the sounds you hear pleasing.

The RGB lighting effects have very smooth transitions in the effects and display a good range of colours, and the LED’s get fairly bright as well. The keyboard remembers what settings you had last on startup, and you can easily factory reset it if you want to take it back to stock. Whilst all of the keycaps have LED backlighting, they lettering is not transparent and are just printed on top of the keycaps, so they won’t be visible in the dark.

There is also no companion software with this keyboard which makes the RGB lighting customisation more difficult than just being able to change it with software, though once you learn the key combinations it’s not too difficult to figure out. To change the colours and lighting effect modes, they all have to be done on the keyboard itself by following the built in key combinations by holding the FN key. You can change the lighting modes from a wide range of different effects, increase or decrease the speeds and adjust the brightness. It even has a full customisation mode where you can set individual colours per key. You can also toggle the keyboard between Windows mode and Mac mode to enable the multimedia keys to work on both platforms which is a nice touch. Lastly, the volume knob feels very premium and has a satisfying tactile click upon changing volume or muting.

Overall, for the price you’re getting a very solid US-Layout keyboard here with amazing LED lighting effects for the price that makes it very difficult to find faults. However, the colour way choices are a little odd and quite nich.

This is a beautiful keyboard, with a unique colour scheme to match.

The mechanism is very well made and comfortable to operate.

I was pleased that with a usb A to C adapter it was able to perfectly link to my iPAD Pro. As you can see from the video all of the actions including volume control link up.

The LEDs are a really nice touch and the patterns programmed into the keyboard are easy to scan through.

The lack of a NUM pad is not noticeable as with most laptops this is now absent. However for gaming this might be missed. The keys are fully responsive and reaction time is instant with zero latency.

The keyboard does come with spare key parts should one of yours wear out or break.

Very pleased with they and for the price you cannot go far wrong.

Got this for my gamer son. The keyboard is wired, and comes with a USB cable which connects to the back – it can’t be used wirelessly. The keyboard looks and feels good. It comes with extra keys and tools to remove them, and the hot keys can be swapped. Pressing on the keys feels good, and it feels like a decent mechanical keyboard. It does light up, which is useful and looks good in the dark, and there is a volume control dial on the keyboard which turns the volume of the computer down. It’s small and compact and would fit a smaller desk easily, it doesn’t have the number keypad on the right of the keyboard however. It is a little expensive, but it is good quality.

I’ve been using this mechanical keyboard primarily for gaming purposes and it has performed admirably. The tactile Cherry keys provide a satisfying typing experience, while the minimal input lag ensures smooth gameplay.

    Pros:

*Tactile Cherry keys offer a satisfying typing experience.

*Minimal input lag enhances gaming performance.

    Cons:

    *Wired connection can be inconvenient.

*USA layout might not suit all users.

In conclusion, this Cherry Switch Mechanical Keyboard is a reliable choice for gamers seeking a responsive and tactile typing experience, despite its wired connection and USA layout drawbacks.

This is a good keyboard for gaming and very flexible but I couldn’t use it as a standard keyboard as it has no keypad and a few keys are missing. The Insert and End keys don’t come as standard, I press End every few seconds for normal typing. Some of the other keys like delete are in weird places. It’s a bit frustrating that some of the keys are huge and a few more could have been squeezed in. I know the idea of it is that you can reassign keys and move them around, but in practice this will be my gaming keyboard and I’ll have to use another keyboard for “serious” work.

That aside, it’s an excellent keyboard for rapid typing and the look and feel is excellent. I love the volume control as well. If you are after a quality small gaming keyboard for a good price this is ideal.

I am not a gamer so cannot comment here about anything to do with those functions that a gamer might use.
It’s plug and play with no fuss, and the volume control knob makes it easy to adjust the sound without having to click on anything on the screen.
It’s hardwired – for me the wire was a little on the short side but it would be easy to get a longer one.
The colours are fun and not too distracting when typing.
The actual feel of the keys is really nice, and it’s something I consider when buying any keyboard / laptop. The keys don’t click loudly, don’t need to be hit hard to react and have a good bounce.
It’s not cheap but then you don’t get the colours, and nice reactive keys with some of the cheaper ones. So if you are someone who spends a lot of time at the keyboard maybe it’s a nice treat!

Mechanical keyboard in US keys lay out, would be good if was UK or had the spare keys that that you can change around for UK as it has the tool to remove keys. Click noise is decent too and volume nozzle works well.

This is a great little keyboard, and a cost-effective into to the Mechanical Keyboard hobby. It comes with some knockoff switches that are rather loud, but as the switches themselves can be changed out, you’ve got the option to go crazy with them and go for whatever switches you like.

The keyboard feels premium, the materials seem durable, and as a whole, it has a good feel to it. It’s rather heavy, but this is generally a good thing for keyboards of their type. It being a TKL isn’t for everyone (I generally prefer my full sized keyboards), but the ease of a TKL makes this even easier for a first time intro to the mechanial keyboard space.

It includes a long USB-A to USB-C cable, but the cable is rather generic, so you can easily switch it out to another one of your preference.

Overall, it’s a really nice entry-level mechanical keyboard that gives you the option to learn about how it works, allowing for development with the removable keyswitches, etc. Recommended!

Keyboard feels great to use and easy to setup. The ability to remove the usb-c cable from the back when transporting is great at this price point. The keys feel strong and firm inline with cherry mx keys. The lighting is good but I think it just cycles through preset options rather than having the ability to program them key by key like in some other keyboards. The manual inluded shows how to change the settings on the keyboard without the software (I havent used this as I can’t seem to find where it is) The only thing that’s would make this better is if in the included keycaps there was the mac alternative keys (command key to replace the windows key) as it is a little confusing when you look at the keyboard when it is in macintosh mode. Otherwise this is a great keyboard and one that even when type keys wear out you can just replace individual keys rather than the whole thing so 5* on the environmental impact that this will have.

I’ve been a gamer for several decades and ever since the introduction of the “lean” function in PC First Person Shooters I’ve remapped every game’s control keys to be ESDF and not WASD. Every PC game since Quake, probably, and yet this is the first gaming keyboard I’ve bought that actually lets me reprogram the lights away from WASD.

The keyboard is as described, right down to the spare microswitches and keycap popping tools. The mechanical feel is superb with a nice long press and tactile click that is satisfying but softer than the deafening “CLACK” I can remember from the days of IBM mechanical keyboards.

I like the detachable USB C cable and I’m glad the keyboard is not wireless, me being old enough to remember avoiding wireless equipment like the plague when it came to my gaming hardware.

I’m also old enough to have to worry about how my keyboard functions in every day life and so on that note, on to the negatives:
    – I think the keyboard looks a bit Fisher Price.
    – The lack of a number pad is a bit jarring and de-railing.
    – However the biggest negative is the pale blue markings on the white keys. The backlight does not show through these and in fact just makes it more difficult to read the keyboard, especially in the darkened cubby hole where all my equipment is.

For me this is a deal breaker for this keyboard, so my advice is to consider whether it will cause you problems too.

Great compact keyboard with backlight, and delightful click click key sounds. It makes me smile every time I use it. Comfortable to type with and lots of light up options and wheel for sound control. Removable keys and tool also with it. I’m really happy with this keyboard.

This is a pretty good keyboard with nice responsive keys. In fairness, I am not a gamer and am not particularly interested in that aspect of the keyboard, but otherwise I’m happy with everything about this keyboard. I love mechanical keyboards and the feel and response of the keys, which is more akin to a typewriter than the laptop keyboard on which I’m typing this. I like the clicky responsiveness of the keys and the fact that you have to exert slightly more pressure on the keys.

Note that it doesn’t have a numeric keypad, so if that’s something you are likely to be using on a regular basis, this isn’t for you.

The lights are quite a fun little feature.

The one negative that I can see is that connection is wired rather than wireless and it is for that reason only that I’ve deducted one star from the review. Other than that, an excellent purchase and one that you will not be disappointed with.

I love a mechanical keyboard, they are not for everyone but I enjoy the satisfying sound and feel from each keystroke. In fact, if you do a lot of typing then a mechanical keyboard is good for your health, it can considerably reduce muscle fatigue and strain. My current keyboard is the Vissles V84 which has served me well for over 3 years now however, I was excited to try this Royal Kludge R75.

Straight from the box the keyboard feels solid and well made. There are a few accessories including the charging cable, key remover, additional red switches and 2 interchangeable keys. The keyboard is a good size and the keys are quite large with bold lettering. I have to be honest, design wise I am not a fan, it sort of looks like a child’s keyboard and the colours don’t do it for me. It certainly doesn’t look as good as my V84.

However, in use it’s great! Typing is lovely and the keys are a little more damped than my Vissles, not nearly as clicky or noisy either. The keys respond well and I found it a joy to type on preferring this a little more. There are 2 risers underneath at the back, so you can angle the keyboard for typing if you wish. Always keep in mind that mechanical keyboards are not the quietest, so if you like to type away while on Teams calls these are not the best!

Unfortunately this keyboard is not wireless and this is a bit of a deal breaker for me, I may need to have a look and invest in a wireless version. It’s also a US layout which is annoying for us in the UK, I need the sign and the @ key is in the wrong place lol! Maybe you can get the UK keys, just a pity they are not in the box. At least it does have decent backlighting and a number of programmable options to control this which is great… I preferred the basic monochrome style.

One of the best things about mechanical keyboards other than the feel is the ability to hot swap and replace the keys. Not only does it prolong the life of the keyboard, and your investment, but you can also give it a good clean every now and again. It might just be me but I love giving my keyboard a good clean, it’s unbelievable what gets stuck under those keys!!

So overall, a great keyboard and lovely to use, but the design is not for me and I need wireless. But, if you like style and wireless is not required then this is a great, well made, keyboard.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely to use, but not a fan of the design and it's a US layou

I’m not a gamer but I wanted to use this as a ‘proper’ keyboard and I have to say it is very nice compared to the normal modern slim style keyboards we all use now. It comes well presented and protected and you are immediately struck by how heavy it is and how solid it feels. It has a traditional qwerty layout out of the box.

I love the backlit options which I am still experimenting with and it is really useful and novel to have a rotary volume knob. I found it really lovely to use as a normal keyboard for the many emails I send each day although I was a little surprised that they keys weren’t quieter. It is ver comfortable to use for long periods too.

I realise I am not the target market for this keyboard and with its customisation options it is not aimed at me but I do really like it. While its on offer at 49.99 I think I’d be tempted for the quality and premium feel. If you are a gamer and want to have the customisation ability this keyboard gives then I’d assume the price is very tempting in comparison to others

4.0 out of 5 stars nice quality, heavy keyboard that's not just for gamers
