Delivery driver was very good offered to take it upstairs. I set up the fridge, and slight noise as the gas finds its level. Time will tell how good it is but my immediate comment is that it’s very good
Excellent wee fridge , i actually bought this to be used as a drinks fridge in my wee bar, definitely holds plenty and doesn’t take long to get drinks cold, that’s with the temperature dial set at no 4 as it was set in the factory,,,, definitely recommend
Bought for son as a “beer fridge” for his bedroom. No complaints so far, seems happy with capacity, quiet operation, no problems sleeping in same room. Great for me because stays virtually in room with food and cold drinks!!!
here is nothing to dislike about this item, it is just right for me as a single person. The fact that you can lock it is a bonus. I would recommend any single single person to buy this item, and depending what it is used for I would also recommend it for a small family.
Being diabetic I tend to drink a lot of water and sugar free drinks. I have my insulin in there as well. I can’t fault it as its fantastic for what I need. I have it in a cupboard out of the way and it’s quiet as hell. Only drawback is that it could do with a light. But otherwise I can’t complain.
Good mini fridge. Ideal for a small apartment, a teenagers bedroom or for a 2nd fridge for occasional use such as at Xmas. There’s a small freezer box but isn’t for long term storage as things don’t get very frozen. The first one came with some damage to the outside shell. This didn’t affect its performance and the seller gave a swift partial discount which was better than having to send it back.
This was purchased as a back up whilst our main fridge/freezer waits for repair. It does exactly what was expected, keeps produce nice and cold and even has a little freezer department. Would be great for the office and will use it for keeping drinks cold once we have have our main one back. One small fault is it is quite noisy so I wouldn’t want to have this in the bedroom. It comes with a lock on the front but I’ve hunted high and low for the key; if anyone who has this fridge could let me know where to find it, that would be helpful 🙂
I ordered this fridge to replace my old one that had broken down and was too costly to be repaired. I wanted something similar in size, colour and capacity and this fridge ticked all those boxes. However it is much much better. Looks great – love the subtle matt black and fits the space under the counter perfectly. I wanted a built-in ice box (much harder to find than you’d think), good capacity (at least 3 shelves plus drawer), low energy consumption and quiet. It meets all these needs and more. Excellent value for money (significantly cheaper than the big retailer alternatives), and it was delivered with care and courtesy by DPD 3 days earlier than expected! A well designed/built great value product that I have no hesitation in recommending.
Looks fantastic, works really well and the price was a bargain. Delivery was free(unlike many retailers) and appears to be very cheap to run. Level three keeps the temperature really low.
It works well, and even chills my drinks too much if I have it on max level. It can get a lot louder when I have a lot of drinks inside, making the vibrations louder, but I guess this is normal. It seems to be slanted slightly so the door automatically closes which is a nice feature. It looks very nice and matches my room.
very pleased. used as a 2nd fridge. good overall size as some fridges are a bit small. nice big size inside and can fit 2 pint bottles of milk in the door. the motor is very quiet. it has a lock on the door which is a nice bonus.
Really good fridge so far, have not filled to capacity yet, but its nice and cold and the size of the 100L is exactly what I was looking for.
Really quick delivery and was package well, easy to unpack and install. The noise is negligible, hardly even notice it.
**After a month in use, this is still a fab fridge, but the gentle popping persists and every few minutes there is a whiff of “hot metal” (hopefully it’s not something serious, like burning wiring). This means I must now move it out of the front room as I can’t put up with that. Which also means a reduction in its rating. P s. Also just realised I can now hear it working whereas before it appeared silent in operation. Tbh tho, that isn’t a problem.
+++++
Freezer compartment lid hinge broken, so not a great start! Will make further comments when in use.
Further info: I must say, surprisingly rapid reply’s to my email regarding broken chiller door and the promise of a new one asap.
Early usage : had to check by feel that the thing was actually running, it’s deathly quiet!!! And cold very quickly, have turned it down to “1” while I now nip out for a few beers etc to fill it . More later.
**Update**. Great little fridge, perfect for my needs. Works well and .. very quiet! I was initially a little concerned from the reviews of it being noisy, but I have it next to my armchair (handy for grabbing a beer while watching movies) and I hear NOTHING even when TV not on. Also very efficient, gets cold really quickly and I haven’t had to put it higher than no.1 on the temperature control. Lovely black finish to the bodywork although it does show finger prints easily so have given it a once over with a polish spray and now just a quick wipe keeps it shiny.
So far only two less positive comments:
Still not received the replacement chiller door, but still early days yet. And as for the lock?? Well unless you live in a house share situation I would say it’s a pointless addition. It’s pretty feeble and I won’t be using it anyway.
One last thing: I bought a thermometer to test, and to keep an eye on, the temperature. And at level 1 it stays at 4-5 degrees. Actually there was no need to test it as I can feel the products are really chilled anyway (just me being paranoid that it was so quiet I would be unable to tell if it wasn’t working).
I will make one more update, once I receive the chiller door and start using it to store some food (I usually buy some chicken breasts which I chop up and put into freezer bags) and for that I will need to test the higher 4-7 setting.
***Final update***
Ok. I’ve had this fridge for one week now. The replacement door arrived Friday, so that was great service. Sadly (and maybe it’s just me) but I can’t for the life of me see how the door attaches with the spring so I’ve just popped it into the hinge posts.
The fridge is behaving well, now with chicken stored in the freezer bit and at level 5 it’s semi frozen so that can be set a little lower as only need it chilled to keep it fresh.
The fridge has started to gently “pop” , just once, at about 15 minute intervals. But I understand that this is just due to expansion as the coolant gets hot. I am hoping this doesn’t last or get worse. On which case I will do another update. Overall, so far, it’s a brilliant buy.
I ordered this fridge as a birthday present for myself back on the 27th of March and opened it today. It’s giving off excellent first impressions. Contents get cold and the capacity is decent and seems that it could be enough for some items should there be a need to transport things in the main fridge into the mini fridge in case of having the main fridge freezer break down.
The only thing though is when I lifted the packaging to take the fridge out of its box, the fridge had arrived locked. A good few minutes it took me until I realised I could just pull the catch down enough to open the fridge up to gain access to the instruction manual and keys. However, it was initially delivered into a shed, before being transported into the kitchen by my mum who arrived home first, before I then moved the item into my room, giving me pain in my arms due to the heft and it slammed onto the floor harder than I would have liked it so that might have caused the issue. Slippery on its table but it’s better on there than on the floor. It’s box was dented up in transit so that could be the cause, though I think it was more user transportation error than anything else. It took a while to start working properly but given as the fridge was just plugged into its final spot, with the temporary spot being my room while I figured out it’s placement while it was boxed. Hopefully it could also be used if we buy a lot more cold items than usual. It’s great for cooling down drinks so far and it will still catch the catch every now and then either slightly or doing a ‘false lock’ which can be rectified via the above solution. The lock does work however. Overall a neat little fridge so far and if something happens, I’ll update this review
Ok, so I wanted to write an in depth review on the fridge for people as there seem to be a lot of fast reviews here, specially considering the sound which I’ll go into in depth here too.
I bought this to replace my Husky Coca Cola mini fridge which was great but after 4 years the fridge packed in and I needed a new one, which after browsing around this was the one I chose.
Delivery – The fridge was delivered quickly and earlier than expected, the packaging of the fridge was great, really well packaged and very easy to get out. The box slides off the top so the fridge is already out as opposed to having to try get the fridge out of a square box, it’s really good how it’s packaged to be honest and makes it so easy to open up.
Location – I have this next to my bed on a carpet which is absolutely fine, I will go into the noise in a bit however the fridge looks absolutely fine next to my bed and works well; it’s a double bed with drawers at each side and the fridge is lower than the bed so isn’t overly tall next to these things and it looks really nice.
Space – There’s a LOT of space in the fridge, more than you would expect!! As you can see from the photo’s I’ve taken a few things to give people an idea of the size. The bottom shelf is very spacious, the pint glass (UFC) is a full size pint glass which is metallic within the glass (it’s really nice actually from the UFC store) and the bottle is a 700ml bottle of Bailey’s so you can get a good idea of the size and space with how much room there still is with those items. The concern for me was being able to fit 2 litre bottle’s of pop (Pepsi, Coke etc. if you don’t say pop ha) however there is plenty of space for this easily and you can fit a full 2 litre bottle in the door compartment and in the fridge itself, there’s a lot of room so you won’t have any problem (as long as you haven’t packed the fridge with loads of other things) but you can get a lot in there alongside them very easily, it’s very spacious!!
Coldness – This is fantastic!! I’m really, really impressed with how cold it keeps the drinks as it’s much better than my Husky fridge by far (I’m guessing most of you know how good Husky fridges are so this gives you an idea). I have the setting on 5 so just above the middle and it gives them that little extra coldness which is nice! The setting on 4 was ok, the drinks were getting nice and cold but being on 5 just seems perfect really and it’s honestly really good!
Sound – YES! The fridge DOES make quite a lot of sound BUT a lot of the reviews here are a little over exaggerated in my opinion! When I first got the fridge and turned it on and heard the sound I was also like “Oh no, this is noisy like people were saying” and was concerned about it BUT it doesn’t really do it that long and I have noticed since it’s been setup for just around 2 weeks now it’s kind of calmed down quite a bit and did pretty quickly to be honest. When the fridge makes these noises it’s usually for about 5 minutes if that and then the fridge is completely silent the rest of the time, like really silent, you don’t hear anything at that point. Bare in mind I’m a very light sleeper and this is next to my bed but even on the first night of it being there it didn’t disturb my sleep and was completely fine! You do also get used to it as well so you kind of don’t hear it after a while, think of when you have a loud ticking clock in your room and eventually you don’t hear the clock anymore, the fridge is like this so where as the first initial reaction for most people (and rightly so) would be that the fridge is noisy, it’s really not as bad as you think and it does calm down to the point where you’d first hear the louder gargling noises people have mentioned when you set the fridge up which calms down to just a lower hum, then the rest of the time the fridge is silent; so if initially the sound seems a bit too much for you just give it time to settle and see what it’s like within a couple of weeks, chances are you’ll be fine with it and it’s really not that bad!
I also think the sound is to do with the ice box because my Husky fridge didn’t have an ice box and I never heard these louder sounds (again, this calms down after the fridge has been settle for a while to just the regular hum all fridges make). I also noticed on the fridge downstairs which has an ice compartment that this fridge does this too which goes to show you only notice this when you listen for it, as otherwise it just becomes background noise but it does settle and it’s really not as bad as some people have made out at all in my opinion, I think a lot of these have been initial reviews as opposed to waiting a while and letting the fridge settle.
Ice Box – This is really good!! I saw a review earlier saying someone put an ice tray in and two days later no ice, this is baffling because it makes ice perfectly well and pretty fast too! I now have a bag full of ice in the compartment which I’ve created from ice cubes with an ice cube tray myself in the fridge and it’s awesome!! It’s not the most spacious ice box (which is a good thing really as you want more space in the fridge) and the door doesn’t click shut like you would expect (this is not a bad thing, it’s made this way for a reason), it basically rests against the ice box naturally and it’s great. I will say however I did notice when putting the ice cube trays in that one or two near the door wouldn’t be as frozen but this isn’t a problem, just flip the ice tray round for a few hours and those cubes will ice so it’s a really great little addition to the fridge where you can store ice cubes for drinks as and when you want them.
All in all it’s a really great fridge, the noise really isn’t as bad as made out and it is quiet most of the time; as well as of course it settles a lot and pretty quickly too so I wouldn’t worry about this at all. You’re not going to get a fridge that’s completely silent but you don’t even notice it, unless of course you are specifically listening out for it but that is the case with anything really. It’s very spacious, it’s packaged and delivered well, it’s very cool inside and really lovely for drinks (again, much better than my Husky fridge and that was good!) but I am really happy with the fridge and would recommend it.
It also looks really nice and very stylish, plus the bonus of having a lock is pretty cool to stop anyone stealing your food and drinks so I’m really happy with it.
I wanted to leave it a couple of weeks before writing this review to help people, specially with the noise thing that seems to be the thing it’s criticised for the most however I hope this has helped a few people in regards to if they want to purchase this or not.
If anything changes, I will amend my review however as of now it’s been really good, works really well and as I say, I’m really happy with it and for 90 too at the time of this review for the 50 litre fridge, it’s an absolute bargain for money, so I hope this helps 🙂
I had never heard of Subcold before as a fridge manufacturer but after reading the glowing reviews on Amazon I decided to buy the Eco50 Mini Fridge in black for my office and I am glad I did. Delivery was swift and the fridge was well packaged to prevent any damage or knocks during transportation.
After unpacking it I was struck by its small footprint, which hides it’s the large interior capacity for storage. I have enough room inside the door for a 4pint bottle of milk plus lots more space for smaller bottles and snacks so no more sour milk in my tea and coffee. The interior capacity is very adaptable and has a removable shelf but with it still in place, there is enough room for up to 2, 750mL bottles of wine on their sides plus lots of extra room for snacks and cans. I have the temperature setting between Cool and Cold and it copes very well in my office with central heating. The insulation is obviously doing its job in keeping heat out and the interior temperature constant. At this setting, the fridge is extremely quiet once it got down to temperature. I am incredibly pleased with it and the fact it takes up so little room in my office yet holds all the food and drink I need during working hours is a bonus.
This is a fantastic little fridge and very well made, not only does it keep everything cool inside, but it also looks pretty cool in the corner of my office or in any situation for that fact, an office, a bedroom or anywhere where you need to keep food cold and safe to prevent it from going off.
Although the first fridge I was sent was DOA, SubCold were extremely helpful and responsive, and despite the defective unit arriving Saturday of a bank holiday weekend, by Wednesday I had a working replacement, the defective unit had been collected, and a refund for the defective unit was on its way. Top customer service.
The fridge itself is very good. As others have noticed, although it looks quite compact from the outside it is surprisingly roomy on the inside. I am using it exclusively as a drinks fridge and I was able to easily fit 12 430ml cans, 12 330ml cans, 2 half bottles of wine and 2 bottles of water in it comfortably. if I wanted to be more clever there is still room to pack more, but for my needs it is full enough.
The fridge works well. At the medium setting the drinks are all as cold as I need them to be and the compressor rarely needs to kick in; exactly as it should be.
Although there is a bit of noise when the compressor kicks in, it is not too loud. Although I admit I notice it when it happens in the evening when the house is quiet, I am sure that within a month I will be so used to it I will no longer hear it. It is another of those noises in the house that one gets used to quickly and never pays attention to again.
If I were to list any areas where there is some room for improvement there are two:
Firstly, the temperature is not even around the fridge. But this is not a big deal and all fridges suffer this problem to some degree. Certainly it is no worse with this fridge than with other fridges I’ve used and one quickly learns where the coldest parts are.
Secondly, the freezer compartment is a little disappointing. Although it does a great job freezing an ice cube tray sat at the bottom of the freezer, it does less well with additional trays stacked above the first. I have 3 trays stacked on top of each other and only the bottom one freezes, even after several days. The solution I found is to rotate the trays after the bottom one has frozen. Eventually the bottom and middle trays are and remain solidly frozen, and the top one ends up about 90% frozen – the ice cubes sit in a thin layer of liquid water. This is good enough for my needs, but I wish the freezer section worked just a little better so as not to need all the fuss to get 3 trays to freeze. The good news is the tray on the bottom always freezes. I haven’t tried setting the fridge to a colder setting to see if it improves freezing, as it is more important to me that the fridge runs at its optimal efficiency.
Tl;dr A very good fridge, very much recommended. If I ever needed another small fridge I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another one of these.
