I much prefer locks that operate on a combination system rather than a key. I just find it more convenient to not have to carry yet another key around with me.
This one has a 4-digit combination that can be easily set to the sequence of your choice.
While no lock is ever going to stop someone who is determined to steal your bike, this is certainly robust enough to put off the majority of would-be thieves and make sure that your bike is still where you left it.
I recently tested the U Lock for Bicycles with a 4-digit combination, and here’s my honest opinion:
– The lock arrived well-packaged with clear instructions for setting the combination, which was quick and easy.
– While it appears strong and sturdy, I haven’t yet tested its resistance against brute force or power tools.
– It is advertised as having a 14mm shackle, however it actually features a 10mm high-grade steel shackle and 4mm coating for water resistance.
– The lock is slightly smaller than expected (166mm x 76mm), making it suitable for securing kids’ bikes.
– I like the fact that it is a combination design, reducing the risk of losing keys especially for kids.
– It would have been nice to have a mounting bracket to attached the lock to the bike while riding.
Overall, it’s a decent lock for securing kids’ bikes, but I wouldn’t recommend / trust it for high-value bikes due to its size and shackle thickness.”
