This phone was ideal for my elderly mum who seems to have trouble with the simplest mobile phones! Firstly the flip phone is ideal as my mum couldn’t get her head around how to end a call and would always keep her finger on the hang up button too long which would always turn her phone off! She would then not realise what she had done and when she went to make a call, she would find the phone dead. So would then claim the phone had broken! So this being a flip phone is great – just flip it down and the call cuts off! Secondly, she doesn’t do well with fiddly things, and trying to insert a charger cable seemed tricky for her, if it didn’t just slot in, she’d forcibly try to push it in, usually pushing it in upside down and therefore end up bending or breaking the charging port. So this phone having a docking charging station makes life so much simpler. The large buttons are easy to see and its excellent having speed dial for important people and SOS function for emergencies. The phone has a really loud ring so hopefully the hard of hearing can still hear when you are trying to get hold of them! This mobile is sim free so compatible with all providers. The phone also has other features such as fm radio, mp3 player, flash light and camera as well as having a large display screen. It seems well made, reasonably priced and is very simple to use, even by the most reluctant technophobes. This phone has turned out to be one of the best mobiles my mum has had and the only one she’s willing to take with her when she goes out, so it’s a huge thumbs up from me!
Pros:
– The build quality is all plastic, it isn’t chintzy and is unlikely to break from a drop but don’t expect the quality you get from a phone that costs 100+, its functional and does a good job for its purpose.
– A little chunky but compact and small enough for any pocket.
– The flip feature is very nice as it prevents accidentally calling someone.
– Large buttons that are soft to the touch with no clicky or springy sound.
– Has clear, well defined call, text etc. indicators.
– Clear sound, no crackling or hissing.
– Speaker phone is reasonably loud, no crackling or hissing.
– Connects to UK networks seamlessly.
– Easy to navigate the menus.
– The radio is a nice feature, doesn’t run down the battery fast.
– Comes with a docking station but can be charged by any USB Type-C lead, takes about 2 hours to full charge and lasts a few days without needing to be recharged by a 22W power bank.
– The SOS is probably the most important feature on this phone and calls the numbers at a single press of the button without delay.
– A useful torch that’s surprisingly bright.
Cons:
– This is quite huge. The UK is scrapping both 2G and 3G mobile networks, this is not the fault of the phone so you need to make sure that your mobile network supports 2G for this phone to work, otherwise you’ll be disappointed. At the moment, O2 works fine (tested) but this may change by the time you read this review.
Neutral:
– The camera isn’t that good but not unexpected at this price point, ok for quick snaps but the resolution is far too tiny to be useful on a HD or 4K screen and enlarging them on the screen turns them to pixelated mush.
– The built in memory is very low, again, not unexpected but does require a SD Card to make real use of storing photos or playing MP3s.
– The colour is a bright red, not the biggest fan of the colour but has the positive of being very noticeable which could be useful to those with not the best eyesight.
A side note:
– As i was about to test the phone, i decided to a parent to see how they responded to using the phone as they are not as tech savvy and the main target audience for a phone like this. They kept telling me that it wouldn’t charge or turn on, then i looked at it for my review and noticed the battery doesn’t come installed in the phone, it was in the packaging. Easy enough to install and forget, has the advantage of being replaceable if need be but the price point of these phones, they are cheap enough to buy a new one.
All in all, a useful phone for those who want something very basic that doesn’t need charging every day or as a backup phone.
The most often complained about feature is texting, because the default method is the weirdest thing I’ve ever seen on a mobile.
However, it can be changed from the menu, just choose ABC from it, & it goes to the simple press the letter keys appropriate number of times eg for C press the ABC key 3 times.
was wanting a realitively cheap second phone to deal with non family calls and messages. Looked around for a while tried some others never met my needs. Then i discovered this phone must say i was curious from the start only complaint is limited ringtones but hey for the price what are you expecting at least its 4g not like some of the others that are only 2g. Fits into pockets easily and not too heavy. Would i buy again if i had to yes.
I am a self-confessed technophobe, I mean seriously, I struggle working the TV and often need my kids to help me so I was hoping this phone would be super simple to use, and to a degree it is, but there are still things I found difficult to work. I’m not stupid by a long shot but more old school where I prefer everything to be super easy and straightforward. I dislike anything fiddly and difficult to find or work out. This phone, for the most part, is easy to navigate. however, I still found some things a little frustrating such as texting and when using the radio (which is a great feature by the way) I was struggling to find how the heck you increased the volume as it is deceptive when it says volume control and I’m pressing the upward key.
So the phone is a decent size and I actually love the old-fashioned flip style as it reminds me of one of my very first mobiles. The buttons are large, which helps if your eyesight isn’t what it used to be and the screen is clear enough for me to read without my specs.
For me, this would be an ideal phone for anyone who wants just that, a phone. There’s no internet and it has all the features anyone would need really. Camera quality isn’t great but then I wouldn’t expect it to be. Charging is fairly quick and can be done by USB C or by placing it in its holder say at bedtime.
I plan to keep this phone as a little backup as there have been many times in the past when we have broken one of our phones and have nothing to use until it is fixed, so this will make an ideal reserve option. 4/5
So happy with this, just wanted a simple phone I could use in emergencies, on a Pay as you go basis, this is ideal.
It’s a nice size, the numbers are large, so don’t need my specs, and it’s simple to use.
