I love this protein, it blended so well! no gritty taste of powder, it was completely smooth! Chocolate flavour was nice and strong but not sickly and not overly sweet at all.
Will definitely be buying this product again! and would definitely recommend.
I’ve found Nuzest protein powders to be easy to use, tasty and easy to digest. I use them to supplement my diet, as a keen runner and a vegetarian, I find my body demanding more protein than I might get from my regular, but healthy, diet. I also use protein supplements to overcome muscle fatigue when participating in endurance events. Whilst I’m not vegan myself, if I can avoid unnecessary diary, I will, and the Nuzest range ticks this box for me too. The chocolate flavour is probably my favourite from the regular range. Usually mix it with some of their Good Green Stuff to get my nutrient boost as well. Delivered next day by Prime too.
This is a good product. I have been trying a number of vegan proteins. this and form nutrition taste the best, but if you are taking more than 2 scoops a day this is better since it doesn’t contain extra vitamins. Great product for cutting. not 5 stars cos it is expensive relative to whey protein isolates of which dymatize was a favourite
Revisited: Ordered my 6th tub in total. From 4 weeks ago price went up with an astounding 10 per kg. Expensive 5 week supplement.
I focused on the positive reviews and really glad I ordered this product. Both my 8 yr old and 13 yr old enjoys this with coconut milk. I use this as a meal replacement or post work out drink. Will get the green smoothy too. I appreciate that this company is upfront about the ingredients they use. Very pleased my first ever plant protein choice was spot on. Phew!
Ordered the wild strawberry too. Few months in and will always use this.
I didn’t like the taste and texture compared to other products, but being lactose free it doesn’t make me feel bloated, so I will probably buy again and try a different flavour. It’s is also very filling. Would recommend to mix it with water rather then “milk”(almond milk tastes awful with it)
I have started using this because it has clean ingredients and no “fake sugars”. In the past I have had powders which contain Stevia extract etc, but if it isn’t in its pure green form it is not a healthy form of sweetener as it goes through different processing stages. This protein powder is for somebody who is looking for a heathy powder and not the best tasting and thickest shake. Saying that I would not want anything changed as I buy this because it is not full of artificial ingredients. I find if I add half a frozen banana and some ice cubes and a splash of oat milk, sometimes grated ginger or cinnamon it becomes a very palatable shake. Will be buying this from now on and look forward to trying the strawberry as I have vanilla flavour at the minute. I now have one of these for breakfast and also have this 5 times a week instead of snacking and have lost weight by doing this.
Garden of Life Sports Protein, tasted good but has stevia in and possible issues with heavy metals;
Naked Pea protein tasted like medieval gruel and they are cagey about giving info about their product;
Warrior Protein made my gut ache and didn’t taste great;
Various hemp proteins which tasted like eating grass;
Plantfusion which turned me into a gas producing machine.
Nuzest comes out on top, it checks all the boxes…
1. Taste 4/5 – If you’re expecting these powders to taste like a McDonald’s milkshake you’ll feel a little letdown. But if you’ve tried other plant proteins then chances are you’ll be pleasantly surprised. The chocolate version is very pleasant, it mixes quite thick (but you can thin with more water) and it has a pleasant texture. I’m curious how the non-flavoured one tastes.
2. Purity 5/5 – I emailed Nuzest and they emailed me back lab reports which showed virtually nil pesticides and lead, mercury, cadium, nickel. It would be good if they included other metals such as tungsten and whatnot for peace of mind but most companies I emailed didn’t reply or share reports. Also, the product is produced using water extraction rather than chemical solvents. It’s produced in a GMP factory which have high standards and is made in Europe rather than in China. Finally, it’s GMO-free.
3. Ingredients 5/5 – No stevia, which apparently can negative affect gut microbiome. Instead of stevia leaf extract, this protein uses a fruit extract.
4. Aminos 5/5 – Has all the key aminos including a good dollop of leucine which is vital for protein synthesis for muscle building.
5. Digestion 5/5 – Easy to digest. Zero gas or, er, toilet issues. I find using other proteins often means having to use quite a lot of loo roll. This stuff actually seems to help digestion, for me at least.
6. Price 3.5/5 – You can get this for about 43/kg. That’s quite pricey compared to some of the bulk-style powders like Pulsin which you can get for around 15/kg. The problem is those bulk-style powders taste rough. I’m happy to pay more for taste and quality assurance. The price is however comparable to similar proteins like Garden of Life and Vega.
7. Support 5/5 – Support was responsive and friendly. Most of the companies I email never reply.
This is now my go-to protein, looking forward to trying the other flavours. Well done Nuzes
The main reasons I like this are A) the blend doesn’t contain rice protein; B) the lack of snake-oil ‘superfoods’ and added salt (if you’re into that sort of thing and enjoy putting the word ‘functional’ before everything, then nuzest do some superfood varieties on their website); C) Katamfe tastes much better than stevia – Wild Strawberry mixed with unsweetened almond milk tastes like a dairy-free strawberry milk-shake. Same goes for the vanilla and chocolate, but strawberry is my favourite so far. Lush. Vivo Perform all taste like medicine in comparison.
However, the blend only contains pea protein. So if you’re not not lazy or time constrained then you could just make your own similar blend from a plain pea protein and save yourself some money. Katamfe fruit extract is only available at fishing shops though and I don’t know if this is fit for human consumption.
Nuzest’s is the same as Neat Nutrition’s vegan blend as far as I can tell and they are both too expensive for what they contain. Although the advice to mix certain plant proteins to form a more balanced or ‘complete amino acid profile’ is over-blown and hemp is overwhelmingly earthy-tasting, I’d still prefer a mixture of hemp and pea for this price. Also, katamfe extract is so sweet they only need to add a small amount to the blend and it’s a very cheap bulk sweetener compared to stevia (fish like it; apparently fit for human consumption; tastes great – what’s not to love?).
In summary: a canny protein blend. A bit too expensive, but by far the best tasting and smoothest alternative to dairy based powders. Wish it had a bit of hemp though.
I first found the protein at a Free From Festival in London. They were amazing people and very informative with their information, ingredients, micronutrients and so on. They are very proud of their user base and seemed to have a proven track record of repeat customers. I tried it there and it tasted amazing, just with the base liquid being water. When I was looking at protein powders, I didn’t want something that tasted great with milk/coconut milk/almond milk/etc, as I always felt if it didn’t taste good with water, you’re masking something. They had it only mixed with water and it tasted great.
I purchased it there and have purchased it on Amazon ever since. The taste it great. I’ve seen some people say it’s pasty, but if you use a thicker liquid than water (example milk), then it will be thicker and you should use more liquid/less protein powder. It’s about finding the right consistency, but if you only use water as the base liquid, you’ll never go wrong.
I always go for the chocolate flavour, as it tastes amazing. I often just use water, chocolate protein powder and a banana, blended up and it’s amazing. However, banana is just preference and still tastes great without.
If anyone is looking for a protein powder and doesn’t want a lot of crap micronutrients that tastes great, this is the one for you. I’ve tried a lot before and this is the best.
All the flavours taste great, I have tried them all and I am use to natural protein powders that are not full of fake flavourings or fillers. My favourites are the chocolate and vanilla, followed by the others, I sometimes mix the flavours and use them in porridge, smoothies, greek yogurt, or drink them straight. Most mornings I have a scoop of chocolate, strawberry and vanilla combined, or just one flavour.
Anyway really happy with this, tried the cappuccino and no complaints, surprisingly tastes like cappuccino! That might actually be a surprise when compared to some of the other products on the market…
