This was bought as a safety precaution of my elderly grandmother, who lives alone.
With this doorbell, the whole family can assess the app and see exactly who is coming to the house or if anyone is there.
We bought this with the Arlo chime that plugs into the wall. They are both great products and I would definitely recommend.
Very happy with this. It’s easy to install and completely wireless. I got a spare battery so I could alternate it when battery goes low. Love the application interface and in app features.
Also, ever since an early firmware update, it no longer allows callers to record a message if I’m unable to answer the phone, which would have been useful if I’m in a bad reception area or roaming and out of data.
It seems like Arlo (or maybe their European partner, Verisure) are just trying to cripple the device as much as they can so people will be forced to take out a contract just to get the features they expected from the outset? Or perhaps I’m just being cynical…
Having said all that, I do like the doorbell – it’s just that I was expecting more functionality without needing to buy a SmartHub or take out a contract.
Be mindful that you may have to pay on going data storage costs when the free trial period finishes.
That’s if you don’t get a smart hub for local storage. Otherwise the ‘cloud’ soaks up countless ‘motion detected’ activations for up to 30 or 60 days. Good value
It would be useful if it came with a means of adjusting the angle in the vertical plane also as there is a lot of sky in the coverage and it doesn’t quite cover the doorstep. I will look into adding some shims to angle it down a bit. Battery life is nowhere near as suggested so would recommend a power supply
When setting up for a friend it might be best to do it from a computer rather than phone app.
TO SETUP FOR A FRIEND ( my wife) WILL TAKE 24 hrs TO WORK. If you don’t know this you will be installing and uninstalling until you go mad! Just wait 24 hrs and motion notifications will start up along with it ringing your phone when the bell is pushed. Everything now works fine on both of our phones. We have both turned off motion notifications, as it is on our side door and pings every time we go in and out. Good quality video.
I used the existing doorbell wires to connect. Needed the extension cable. Although device placed lower than 48 inches I have a full view of anyone approaching or leaving.
Motion detection is good even if a person just passes my door. Caught my neighbour putting her rubbish in my bin!
The camera takes a second to activate, which means a fast individual could be gone and all you see is their back. I haven’t tried running towards the door at speed, as yet. No one has escaped detection when they arrive.
you might ask why I would pay almost 180 on a door bell, it is crazy I know.
It works well, although whilst I’ve been away from home I haven’t had a conversation with anyone at the door. I’m not sure whether I have that feature or not. I hoped I have.
The camera is great. very sensitive to movement.
the fixing up is easy. and recharging a doddle. however, I couldn’t find the security clip to release the camera from the housing when I had to re charge it. So I used a paper clip, worked wonders. So much of the security clip
Setting up 1 phone was easy enough.
Just try setting up a 2nd phone and the chime 2 and this is when you start pulling your hair out !!!
After setting up the 1st phone with ease you’d be forgiven for thinking that the rest would be easy……….WRONG !!!
In all it took me more than 24hours to get 2 phones and the chime 2 to work.
I had to ignor the instructions to invite a second person to get it to work because that failed on numerous occasions, instead in the end after almost giving up I logged the 2nd phone in using MY email account details and after receiving and accepting a message saying is this a trusted device I stumbled into getting the 2nd phone working. As for the chime, you cannot scan the code on the back of it because it is too small to read !!! I ended up photographing it , send to my email and opening the email on my laptop to read it. Even then it refused to connect to my WiFi. The whole setup process is a total nightmare. I might still send this back even now.
Working reasonably well. Disappointingly the chime does not have a function to geofence its activity. I’d ideally like to have the calls active when away from home and the chime active with no calls at home. But this can only be toggled manually via silence mode. But as a chime loud and clear with hood chime options.
