A doorbell camera that covers all the basics, this one offers clear video quality and reliable motion detection. The night vision works well, ensuring you can see visitors clearly even in low light. The battery life is solid, reducing the need for frequent recharges. The included features like two-way audio and free trial of the subscription service add value. However, the subscription service can get pricey if you opt to continue after the trial. Overall, a great addition to home security that balances quality with functionality.
This was bought as a safety precaution of my elderly grandmother, who lives alone.
With this doorbell, the whole family can assess the app and see exactly who is coming to the house or if anyone is there.
We bought this with the Arlo chime that plugs into the wall. They are both great products and I would definitely recommend.
The hardware is good, but instead of allowing you to store the video on your own PC, you end up having to buy a SmartHub as well as the doorbell (doubling the expected price). And then, once I’d connected the SmartHub, I couldn’t get email notifications anymore. Tech support were very helpful, but eventually both they and I just got bored and gave up.
Also, ever since an early firmware update, it no longer allows callers to record a message if I’m unable to answer the phone, which would have been useful if I’m in a bad reception area or roaming and out of data.
It seems like Arlo (or maybe their European partner, Verisure) are just trying to cripple the device as much as they can so people will be forced to take out a contract just to get the features they expected from the outset? Or perhaps I’m just being cynical…
Having said all that, I do like the doorbell – it’s just that I was expecting more functionality without needing to buy a SmartHub or take out a contract.
I did a fair bit of research before purchasing a door bell, two cameras and a smart hub, Its not a simple set up process. Arlo is very supportive and patiently responded to all my queries, The product is not cheap, but is of excellent quality and there is real support from an actual person if you need it. I’m sure there are other good products from which to choose to improve your security but Arlo has got to be up there.
Be mindful that you may have to pay on going data storage costs when the free trial period finishes.
That’s if you don’t get a smart hub for local storage. Otherwise the ‘cloud’ soaks up countless ‘motion detected’ activations for up to 30 or 60 days. Good value
I used the existing doorbell wires to connect. Needed the extension cable. Although device placed lower than 48 inches I have a full view of anyone approaching or leaving.
Motion detection is good even if a person just passes my door. Caught my neighbour putting her rubbish in my bin!
The camera takes a second to activate, which means a fast individual could be gone and all you see is their back. I haven’t tried running towards the door at speed, as yet. No one has escaped detection when they arrive.
you might ask why I would pay almost 180 on a door bell, it is crazy I know.
It works well, although whilst I’ve been away from home I haven’t had a conversation with anyone at the door. I’m not sure whether I have that feature or not. I hoped I have.
The camera is great. very sensitive to movement.
the fixing up is easy. and recharging a doddle. however, I couldn’t find the security clip to release the camera from the housing when I had to re charge it. So I used a paper clip, worked wonders. So much of the security clip
This could have been a 5 star review had it not been so unbelievably difficult to set up.
Setting up 1 phone was easy enough.
Just try setting up a 2nd phone and the chime 2 and this is when you start pulling your hair out !!!
After setting up the 1st phone with ease you’d be forgiven for thinking that the rest would be easy……….WRONG !!!
In all it took me more than 24hours to get 2 phones and the chime 2 to work.
I had to ignor the instructions to invite a second person to get it to work because that failed on numerous occasions, instead in the end after almost giving up I logged the 2nd phone in using MY email account details and after receiving and accepting a message saying is this a trusted device I stumbled into getting the 2nd phone working. As for the chime, you cannot scan the code on the back of it because it is too small to read !!! I ended up photographing it , send to my email and opening the email on my laptop to read it. Even then it refused to connect to my WiFi. The whole setup process is a total nightmare. I might still send this back even now.
Working reasonably well. Disappointingly the chime does not have a function to geofence its activity. I’d ideally like to have the calls active when away from home and the chime active with no calls at home. But this can only be toggled manually via silence mode. But as a chime loud and clear with hood chime options.
Purchased the Arlo Doorbell to go with my existing Arlo Pro2 camera setup. Installation was incredibly simple; the wireless version has a rechargable battery so it’s not dependant on your existing doorbell transformer powering it. However, the beauty of the kit is you can then have an existing bell power supply trickle charge the battery. Best of both worlds! Wiring up to my existing bell was a doddle, just unplug the two wires on the old button and wire into the Arlo. My existing chime still works, so no need to invest in another. The kit includes a flat and an angled mount to suit most door positions. Calling from the bell to mobile phones works really well. I’ve found the delay between the button being pressed and my phone/tablet ringing to be within 1sec – just have it as near as possible to your wireless router. Works great with existing cameras so you can include in existing recording schedules and have other cameras trigger when the doorbell detects motion. Works with Alexa just like the other Arlo cameras do; I often have the video displayed on an Echo Show and Fire TV.
