You can never go wrong with Cryptic Killers murder mystery case files. They’re absolutely incredible. Need a date night idea? This is it. You can do this with a group of friend, as an individual, as a couple or whatever you please! I recommend.
Very enjoyable way to spend an evening. Took a few hours for the three of us to solve, only a few arguments along the way which is less than when we play Scrabble. Highly recommended!
I’ve seen these for a while now floating around on tiktok so decided to buy one and I wasn’t disappointed. This was a very well thought out case file game. The evidence included is realistic looking and very intricate. This was very easy to focus on and only took a couple of hours to figure out. Great fun to go through the case file either on your own or with friends. Love that there’s an online database that you have to figure out the clues to log onto and the clues and hints are perfect if you’re a little lost or stuck. Overall totally recommend enjoyed myself and will definitely be buying more!
Fantastic! The materials are very well thought out and give great detail, every clue is hidden just enough to keep you guessing throughout the whole game, but not so difficult that you can’t solve the case. We absolutely loved the game, and will definitely be buying again!
This is the fourth one of these that we have done as a family of various ages and we are really enjoying them bringing in new elements as new packs are brought out. They are fantastic value for money and this one was quite difficult, taking us the full 3 hours (we really enjoyed the plot twist in envelope 2). The only thing we would love to see is inclusion of more interactive elements such as evidence which you need to investigate in ways other than just reading it. We are already looking forward to the next one and will keep buying them for family gatherings!
We have completed every Cryptic Killers case available and this one is probably our favourite! Me and my husband do one of these every month and it’s a fantastic date night idea!
The quality, the concept, the enjoyment, all of it is amazing! It’s takes us anywhere been 3-4hrs to complete and we enjoy every minute! Already excited for the new release!
This one was quite difficult, a solid 4/5 for difficulty, but nothing annoyed us or was so bizarre and obscure that it held us up. So although it’s quite difficult it didn’t feel so in a frustrating way. We all thoroughly enjoyed it. Really like how it’s in two parts so you can spend around 2 hours on the first part and around an hour on the second.
This one, just like all the other Cryptic Killers games doesn’t require you to destroy anything, and all we really use is two pieces of A4 paper, one to write down general bits like date and time of death, and another sheet with all suspects, possible alibis, opportunity for murder and possible motives etc.
Everything has been really thoughtfully produced, with different textures, and thicknesses for the various bits of evidence and information.
We know it’s not real, but it does add to the immersion with all the attention to detail.
I think this is the eighth one of these we’ve played and they are by far the best series.
Other games have clues which are so incredibly easy to miss (a scar on the face of a very poor quality picture for example) or just don’t really make much sense (mass produced items which have a hidden meaning within them – ie. impossible in reality), whereas these are very well thought out and more realistic.
I’d rank this #1 or #2 of the 9 cryptic killers game. One of the best of the genre — deep and subtle and generous. There’s a lot to read and think about here, and everything is extremely well done and very satisfying.
This was the first 5 out of 5 difficulty cryptic killers game we played and it was definitely very challenging! The estimated game time is 3 hours but it took us around 10-12 hours to finish(we also used a lot of the hints). We really enjoyed the story, however, we did feel it left a lot of unanswered questions that left us a bit unsatisfied in the end. Nevertheless it was great fun for the whole family.
This is our 4th of the cryptic killers case files, and it didn’t disappoint. We absolutely love solving the cases and figuring out who the killer is in each case. They are so well made and the evidence provided in paper and online is really well thought out, and of such good quality. Each part of the case is thought about and planned.
They are really worth the money as they aren’t a quick 5 minute job. Each case has taken us at least 2 hours to complete that we have done so far, and we can’t wait for the next already!!
Thanks guys! x
Really great materials and set up as always (ive done ALL of them). Infact this one might be better than the others in terms of story/background, i was hooked instantly.
What i will say is this is the perfect one for anyone to start with, there are lots of things that look like they might later be red herrings or relevant, which later end up not being used.. so the story is detailed and engaging, without needing to pick up on, and remember, every detail – everything is pretty straight forward, and theres no real tricks or gotchas. Determining the killer really involves noticing one (pretty obvious) detail, and doing a puzzle. This gives a great flavour for what the other games are like, and i definitely enjoyed it, but it was objectively the easiest solution (in terms of hoops to jump through and logical deductions/connections to make)… in fact it was somewhat too easy, and the usual jump for joy getting it right was somewhat soured by the fact this one holds your hand so much. Personally, i like red herrings and having to double-read everything, and going a bit insane towards the end trying to hold everything in your head.
In short, its a perfect start to Cryptic Killers, but if you’ve done ones like the Musician, Casino, Biologist, Theatre, Manor (i realise im basically listing them all) and want an equal or more advanced challenge, you wont find it here. this is a 3.5 at best, but a solid experience all the same. I still think the Musician is the best one in terms of overall package; story, complexity, satisfaction.
