Roomba Combo j7+ Self-Emptying Robot Vacuum & Mop
The world’s most advanced robot vacuum and mop combo.
Introducing the only robot vacuum and mop combo that seamlessly transitions from carpet to hard floors and vacuums, mops, and empties itself in the same mission without any intervention from you.
Introducing Roomba Combo j7+
It cleans your home without avoiding carpets or requiring you to change cleaning modes. The Roomba Combo j7+ also features a bin that automatically empties the dirt and dust that your robot picks up so you can forget about vacuuming for months.
We clean professionally
Does it all so you don’t have to do anything
Its advanced vacuuming and mopping technologies seamlessly transition from hard floors to carpet. Just let Roomba combo j7+ do its thing, and it all gets clean.
4-Stage cleaning
Thorough floor cleaning, every time
4-Stage cleaning combines our edge-sweeping brush, dual multi-surface rubber brushes, power-lifting suction and first-of-its-kind mopping. On hard floors, it mops and vacuums at the same time. Then on carpet, it lifts its mop pad safely away from your carpet and continues with powerful vacuuming.
Precision cleaning
It just knows what to clean—and what to avoid
We designed it to be intelligent. The precision vision navigation system identifies exactly what’s ahead, then behaves accordingly. When it senses objects like cords, socks and even pet waste, it steers clear. When it senses dirt, dust and pet fur, it knows to start cleaning.
iRobot OS Powers you to do more
Always getting smarter
iRobot OS powers your robot to work around your ever-changing schedule, like cleaning when you’re away so you can enjoy a cleaner home without you doing a thing.
Featuring enclosed bag system
Automatically empties its own bin
You can forget about vacuuming for months because it empties itself into the clean base automatic dirt disposal with enclosed bags. Dust stays out of sight and your hands stay clean.
Dirt detect and cliff detect sensors
It senses where areas get especially dirty
Some areas of your home get dirtier than others, like high-traffic hallways, entryways and more. That’s why we developed advanced Dirt detect sensors that recognize the spots that need extra focus. Cliff detect sensors prevent the robot from falling down stairs. Instead of 1 bristle brush, Roomba robot vacuums use 2 multi-surface brushes that flex to adjust to different floor types and avoid getting tangled with pet hair. High-efficiency filter traps 99% of cat and dog dander allergens.
Feature-packed for pet owners and busy families

I tried an earlier mop-vac model and ended up returning it because of numerous problems, the worst of which was mapping. That means I was more than a little nervous about this much-more-expensive model, but it has proven to be superior in almost every way: map-creation speed and accuracy, rolling over transitions in the floor, and of course the cleaning task it’s designed for.
CON:
* The bot is quite loud in operation, and it gets even louder when it empties its dust bin.
* Since its “mop” is basically a damp washcloth, it’s just lightly wiping down the floor so if a better clean than that is wanted, you will need to use a real mop.
* Occasionally it will wedge itself into a pinch point that it can *ordinarily* navigate, and stubbornly insist on trying to power through it before it gives up and signals for assistance.
* It can supposedly be operated with the button on top, but the nonverbal sequences of light signals and one-button operation are not intuitive at all.
* No Windows port for the app, it’s iOS/Android only. Seriously?
* The app is very poorly laid out, making operation tedious and navigation involves lots of backtracking.
PRO:
* It can be programmed (or manually instructed) to clean while you’re away so “loud” won’t matter. Come home every day to clean floors!
* The vacuum function works great, even keeping bare wood and laminate flooring dust-free.
* If you start from a clean floor, the bot will keep it that way.
* If it encounters anything unusual, it will show you a photo afterward and give you options for what to do next time.
It’s an expensive device, but the time and effort saved makes it well worth it.
I love my Roomba. I have it schedule to vacuume 3 times a week. It is really a remarkable machine. I am not that impressed with the mopping part. It looks like it is smearing water on the floor. I do have an issue in ordering the air filters. The app on your cell phone will tell you when to change it. I have placed 3 different orders with Amazon and returned all there as the filter did not fit. I have been in contact with iRobot c.s. and I am trying to get the filters from them. They said they are out of stock. Also I am trying to get proof of purchase to them. Hence, they have an issue with it. I will work on this issue until resolved. MEM
It is a great product. Still in the first three weeks the machine learning was a little bit painful. The Roomba was stoping after detecting inexistent cliffs in the middle of a living room previously vacuumed.
After some trial, this behaviour stoped.
Moreover, consider some aspects before buying like the clearance under beds and furniture and the fact that this product cannot close a door and vacuum behind it.
I love my Roombie its little arms bringing the mop down is so cute, it cleans really well both vacuuming and mopping and it’s so refreshing to come back to a fresh clean home after a hard days work. I always set it to run around about an hour before I get home to enjoy a waft of freshness as I step through the door. Defo recommend getting one! It’s lifechanging 🙂
Prior to purchasing this roomba we used some old model, which required cleanup after every use. With this model we empty the dust collector every month or two. It works very well with collecting sand, dust, mud brought by dog as well as cat’s fur.
The built-in mopping just works. Not much to complain.
From the downsides:
1) the “default”/ original dust collector bags are single use, so if you want to be more eco-friendly / not spend plenty of money on original bags, you can purchase some “openable” bags and use them multiple times
2) I’m lacking the large container for mopping solution as even though you don’t need to empty the dust collector every time you use it, you need to re-fill the small cleaning solution “tank” with every use of it.
A lot of comments on mapping, but let’s start with actual cleaning. It’s very good, picking up long hair (we have girls), cat litter, and leaving the floors very clean.
The first time you use it you have to let it clean the entire house. This took over 4 hours with 2 charging sessions in our case, as it maps the area (~1,000 sqft). I think other reviewers just don’t let it complete this. Once it has been completed, subsequent cleans are much faster. Its extremely good at getting itself out of tight situations and the large wheels allow it to get over quite high obstacles. I like that you can name rooms on the map and then send it to one room to clean by name.
The only reason i didn’t give 5 stars is its quite noisy. Magazine reviews say it’s one of the quietest, having not tried others I couldn’t comment, but it’s a vacuum cleaner and about as noisy. The self emptying bin is very good, but sounds like a rocket engine for the 5 seconds it takes. You certainly wouldn’t run it at night.
Overall an excellent product however.
This little vacuum shaved a half hour off my evening routine. With 2 under 2, the floors need to be vacuumed daily. We also have a dog so in the winter the ability to wash the floors daily is amazing. Like any robot vacuum, you still need a good vacuum and steam clean every once in a while. The mapping function and ability to customize the cleaning by zone and day is the best yet (and I’ve tried a few different brands now). My only wish is that it didn’t use disposable bags (though they do last about a month, just not very green).
I read many reviews before buying this particular model. It has now been a month since I have purchased “Roberta” as we call her, and I believe I can give a more accurate review than if I had given one right after I started using it. So here it goes.
Roberta is doing a great job, her suctioning power is pretty damn good, just to check her out I let her vacuum a few times and would come back behind her with my regular vacuum and see how good or bad she did. To my surprise she does amazing better than I had thought she would do. Of course she does not replace using your regular vacuum on occasion.
As for Roberta’s mopping, I read good and bad reviews and almost did not get her because of some of those reviews. But here is my take on her performance. Roberta does not replace your regular mopping (I didn’t expect her to) I got her mainly for mopping daily to get my husbands spills he makes all over the house and my puppy dogs foot prints from going outside when its wet. For that it works great my floors look and smell great every day, I don’t have to wipe them up anymore! It’s not perfect but it is perfect for what I needed her for. As for filling her up I have a 2150 square foot home with 4 rooms with carpet and I only have to fill her up once during the day but I have her scheduled to mop every morning after my husband leaves and then again after dinner only in the dining room and kitchen area.
Overall I love this roomba! She is doing exactly what I wanted her to do. She has mapped out my house really good and notifies me of things to make her work better which is really nice. If you are looking for a roomba to help you make things easier this is the one! If you are looking for one to replace you from vacuuming and mopping this is not the one for you and you might want reevaluate your expectations.
Almost forgot, with her mopping and vacuuming I do clean her every few days just to keep things nice. With the water the dirt does tend to stick a little but I am ok with that and taking the time to clean her up so she works to the best of her ability 😉
Hope you found this helpful in your search for a Roomba 🙂
Only one month experience with this unit. This is a hard working helper. Set up was fairly easy. Communication was good. Cleaning was good. It made my wife very happy.
Congratulation to the people that engendered this tool!
I have 3 dogs, 2 cats and it gets dusty where I live so the floors are hard to keep up with. I hesitated buying a rumba for some reason but then purchased a j6 that vacuums only. What a god-send that was. I LOVED it but didn’t want to keep moving it from main level to upstairs so I splurged and bought the j7+ vacuum and mop for the main floor that is mostly hardwood/tile with some carpet and moved the j6 upstairs (some hardwood and tile but mostly carpet). I really like that you can set a schedule to clean one room or all of a floor level. These models will automatically empty the bin when it becomes full. Occasionally it will the battery will run out while it out on a job and I’ve had to retrieve it from under a bed or if it gets stuck behind a door. But it’s not a big deal and the app will tell you where it is stuck.
I specifically bought these because of the obstacle detection feature. All dog owners have the occasional dog accidents (we’ve all heard the horror stories of waste being smeared across floors). Everything was great until I got home and found the j7+ with smeared dog poop in the wheels and rollers of the robot. The floors luckily were ok. I called customer service and they were fantastic! It was an easy process of sending them pics of my robot. Then they asked a question about my settings and wanted me to look in the app under product settings->cleaning preferences to see if “obstacle detection” was set. And it WASN’T. (I had set it for j6 but forgot when I got the j7+) I thought for sure customer service would say I was out of luck. But he didn’t. They replaced my robot with a new one and I received it a few days later.
The mopping feature is nice but the cleaning fluid reservoir is small so if you have a large area to mop, expect to have to refill it frequently. I am so glad I purchased these; my only regret is not buying them sooner!
I’ve been using my Roomba j7+ for about a month now and can give an informed review.
A word of caution: Beware of buying “almost new” for a reduced price. I ordered one and it would not charge no matter what. I followed all of the instructions and even called customer service and we worked together to try to solve the issue unsuccessfully. I returned the item to Amazon, but ordered another, this time making sure it really was new and not used. Don’t buy used. At least I won’t again for these things.
Pros: The Roomba j7+ works really, really well especially in the vacuuming department. I have two cats, one of whom sheds prolifically, and a large dog that does the same. This thing does a pretty good job at getting all that off the carpet. It does a better job at vacuuming than my old push vacuum cleaner, and that was a pleasant surprise to see that.
I run it every day. It vacuums the carpets, and vacuums and mops where I have white ceramic tiles: the kitchen, entryway and two bathrooms.
The AI never ceases to amaze me. This thing makes decisions which room to vacuum next (unless you tell it to vacuum a specific room), goes around wires and I hear even pet poop (I don’t have that problem in my house). It’s very good at suction and goes slow enough to do a bang of a job cleaning the carpet.
My wife an I have even given our Roomba a name. He’s George.
Our George won’t fall down stairs. It just refuses. From my kitchen there are stairs leading down to the basement. There’s no door at the top of the stairs. George the Roomba has “cliff” sensors preventing it from going over the edge of a top stair and tumble down the stairs. No need to set an obstacle blocking the robot from getting to the edge of the stairs.
You can set a schedule for it to vacuum certain areas or the whole area (your home). You can have it do it every day at a certain time, every other day, any day of the week and any time of the day you want. You can even set it up so that it vacuums as soon as you leave the house. It’s kinds like Santa Clause: it knows when you’re asleep and it knows when you’re home. (It was an early Christmas gift my wife and I gave to ourselves.)
The Roomba J7+ works with Alexa and Google. I presume it works with Siri, but I’m an Android kinda person. I have Amazon echos in every room of this house, smart bulbs everywhere, and I can turn on lights or change their colors just with my voice. I can also say, “Alexa, ask iRobot to vacuum the bedroom” and it will say, “Okay, I’ll tell iRobot to vacuum the bedroom.” And magically the Roomba wakes up, backs away from the charging station, and make a beeline for the Bedroom without bumping into a wall or a door or anything. Cool stuff. Impresses visitors to the house.
Cons: I’m disappointed with battery life. My house is fairly simple, not a huge mansion. I have a bedroom, living room, office and kitchen. That’s it. Two bathrooms and the kitchen has white ceramic tiles, one dog, two cats, my wife and myself. Sometimes we have grandkids crawling all over the house, but not every day. George (my iRobot Roomba J7+) has to take two breaks, return to the charging station (where it empties the bin inside the robot by powerful suction into a proprietary vacuum cleaner bag (that cost $19.99 for only 3 of them). and then remains there while it recharges due to low battery. An hour and a half later it comes back on automatically, goes to the place it stopped before, and resumes cleaning until it’s finished the mission.
However, because it has to recharge twice, it can take over 5 hours just to vacuum and mop the house. So I’m disappointed with the battery life.
I just had to finish mopping my kitchen floor by hand. I find that I have to do that once a week or so, even though the iRobot Roomba J7+ rolls into the kitchen, lowers it’s mop and starts vacuuming and mopping the floor. George the Roomba doesn’t do a very good job mopping.
The little “mop” is a crescent moon shaped pad that inserts into the top of the vacuum cleaner. It can be removed and washed, but it’s about the size of a small wash rag. You fill a small tank at the top of the vacuum cleaner with whatever cleaner you want to use. The iRobot Roomba j7+ came with two small packets of floor cleaning stuff. One for tiles, another for wood floors. Once that was gone, I just use stuff like Mr. Clean. You can pour it in full strength or diluted. It’s up to you.
But in the end it’s all about that “mop head.” You know, the small crescent moon shaped pad that is smaller than a wash rag? The Roomba comes with two of these in the box, and you can detach it and wash it in the sink. When it’s all said and done, however, how well can you clean a floor with good cleaner but one small wash rag that gets dirty fairly quickly.
So after a week I’ve noticed the ceramic kitchen tiles needed a more thorough hand mopping, and I consider that a con.
Summary: Overall, this thing has improved the quality of our living and has been doing a good job vacuuming our carpets and picking up animal hair. It saves us time to do other things we enjoy doing, and it’s fun to watch, too. It doesn’t do a perfect job at mopping, true, but it does vacuum and mop. You might need to still do some mopping, but not as often as before. The battery life is disappointing. I thought it would be able to do the whole first floor of the house in one go, but it has to recharge itself several times and therefore takes a long time to finish the vacuuming.
A workaround would simply to have it vacuum more used areas of the house more frequently, and the less used areas less frequently, thus reducing the area it has to clean on a daily basis. This would give enough battery life to complete it’s job.
I’ve read a lot of reviews, and i’ve got my personal experience. This is probably the best vacuuming robot that you can buy.
I have been an iRobot user for years. I was used to the manual disposal of the bins every time it vacuumed. It was annoying, yes.
The idea of bases was good but unfortunately it doesn’t work. They get clogged very easily, but the worst part is that the electric contacts at the bottom get dirty very easily.
I bought the J7+ in the hope that the new model would have fixed the problems. I had a S+ for 7 years that I had to babysit daily In the last year. Sadly, 10 days after I’ve purchased my j7+, my roomba started having problems connecting to the base when it parks itself.
I have my J7 to vacuum daily a 50m2 hardwood living room (no mopping). Everything went fine for a bit more than a week. Then I started getting those dreadful messages “there is a problem connecting to the base”. That is the beginning of the end. I have cleaned the electric contacts with a magic eraser, but I know where this is headed: I won’t be able to rely on the robot because I’ll never know if it parked correctly or of it has charged properly and is ready for another go.
The water deposit is a pretty idea, but unless you’re mopping a very small area (10m2) it is not autonomous. You have to keep filling it every single time.
Very disappointed at iRobot. 🙁
UPDATE: it was the best customer service experience ever!!! I’ve reached out to iRobot and I won’t deny I was frustrated. Those guys were FIVE STARS! Not only the fixed my problem completely (my Roomba is now working PERFECTLY), but also they made me feel like a prized customer. Extremely happy.
Companies are not about the glitches they have, it’s about how they face them! Big kudos to iRobot!!!
Short version – If you have actual carpet instead of low pile rugs, this really is your only option. The only true “competitor” to this style of combo, the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra, is not rated to be able to handle a living space with 80% or more of real carpet, and refilling the reservoir after one or two cleanings is not the world ending hassle people make it out to be.
Long Version – I recently moved from a location with primarily hardwood floors to a apartment with carpet everywhere except the entryway, kitchen, and bathroom. Beforehand I owned the Ecovacs Deebot N8 Pro+ which I purchased after doing extensive research and cost analysis. the N8 Pro+ did it’s job, it got up any crumbs and kept the floor maintained longer in between deep cleanings. It couldn’t handle a cleaning solution in it’s reservoir so I just used distilled water as recommended by the manufacturer. As anyone who has done research on robot vacuums knows, it had it’s shortcomings. Besides the water only tank, it also could not go onto carpet with the tank attached – A standard problem among the previous generation of robot vacuums. As such my bedroom, the only carpeted room in my previous apartment, was left untouched by the Deebot as it was easier to vacuum it quickly with a standing vacuum.
Despite their flaws, my appreciation for vacuum robots pushed me into buying one better suited for my new home. So I dove once again into countless robot reviews, lists, competitions, etc. My criteria quickly pushed me to analyze the top models in each robot vacuum manufacturers catalog, specifically two robots in particular – The J7 combo and the Roborock S7 MaxV Ultra. Because the three hardwood sections are separated by spans of carpet, I wanted a combo robot that could complete the whole apartment in a single run without my interaction *DURING* it’s cleaning job. This is where I believe many people get the purpose of a robot vacuum, and particularly this model wrong.
This is a MAINTENENCE machine – simply put, this is not full service machine which removes the necessity to clean your floors entirely. All robot vacuums are a luxury device which extends the time between deeper cleanings. I have one long haired cat, and without this device, I would normally vacuum once or twice a week to keep my allergies from flaring. With a robot vacuum, I can extend that to once or twice a month should the robot do it’s job properly. Same with the hard floors; because it does the equivalent of a quick swifter job, I don’t have to scrub my floors as often. Vacuum robots are also not miracle workers who never break. For the hours it saves you cleaning your floors, it only needs a few minutes of TLC once a month to keep doing it’s job. If you expect any robot to never have to be touched, even the RoboRock S7 MaxV Ultra which many will say is the Combo J7’s superior, you’ll be wasting your money.
With that, the reason I chose this machine is because it can clean my entire house without me doing anything during it’s cleaning. I don’t have to remove a reservoir, or in the case of the Braava, pick it up and move it to the next hardwood spot in my house. From my research, no other robot can currently go from hardwood to medium pile carpet with it’s mop pad attached. I could be wrong, or at the very least this review will soon be dated once iRobot’s competitors integrate their solution for this issue into their product line. As of right now however, no other robot can do this without getting the carpet wet from it’s mop pad (again, the roborock S7 MaxV Ultra cannot raise or cover it’s mop pad far enough to prevent your carpet from getting wet).
That is why I chose this robot, especially in light of it’s flaws – that of which I am not blind nor a fan of the common issues reported on this machine. It’s price point even on Black Friday is roughly 100-200 dollars more than it should be (in my opinion the sale price of 900 should be the machine’s normal cost), it bumps into things quite forcefully, it’s mop does not vibrate or spin nor does it automatically refill the reservoir or clean the mop pad on it’s own, it’s quite loud verses the other robot vacuums I’ve interacted with, and if you don’ t program the roomba to vacuum your carpet first, the moisture from mopping can cause build up in the brush housing.
My only note on the flaws listed above is perhaps because I developed good habits around the reservoir with the Ecovacs Deebot, I’m fine with the lack of a mop filling and cleaning system. To me, it’s really not that hard to take a mop pad off after a cleaning or to fill the reservoir after two jobs.
This review is based on my personal opinion, experience with robots, and willingness to pay for this kind of luxury equipment. My reasoning for buying this unit it niche, however it fills that role successfully, and because I hadn’t seen any buzz around this specific issue I figured I post this review. Thank you for reading and I hope this helped you make a decision.
