Very good value for money for an acoustic that you can plug in. I’ve used it to plug in to garageband as I don’t want to bother with microphones. The big issue was the string action. I had so take the strings off and sand down the saddle and nut. After that the action was great and I am well capable of this job. Most people would be put off this and before i did it sounded OK but was hard to play higher up the neck. The out of the box string action would be poor for anyone but people strumming cowboy chords

I haven’t tried this with an amp yet. Love the fact you can use reverb and chorus without having to use an amp. Sounds great and harmonics are spot on. So far so good.

This guitar has low action with no string buzzing on the fretboard. The sound effects (chorus and reverb) are great.
The only downside is the material it is made from is slippy when you are playing seated without a strap. On the whole I’m very happy with this guitar.

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersThis is a heavily edited rewrite of an earlier review where I was very taken with the feel and playability and the benefits of the freeboost system. In that review I didn’t mention that my first Lava 2 didn’t actually work. The electrical amplification system remained dead with no light coming on. Lava communication and chat / pics failed to resolve the problem so I returned guitar and got a second one which worked really well and on which my earlier , now deleted , complimentary review was based. Unfortunately one night in the dark after a few drinks I left guitar on a sofa and sat down heavily and heard a really loud crack. Main frame had a new groove and was totally unplayable. Think a wooden guitar would have been damaged but repairable but carbon fibre is different. A bit like a carbon fibre bike . Once it breaks it’s gone. So I ordered my third Lava 2 and was relieved to see that the green light lit up on arrival but there was no amplification or effects. So I sent back my third Lava 2 and ordered my fourth. Am glad to say that this is working very well with all expected effects.
I am a fairly basic guitarist and have had a number of different guitars. I absolutely adore the feel and the playability of this guitar. To be honest , I don’t use the amplification effects that much. Useful in certain songs and certain situations. It doesn’t need retuned that much and it’s great to have it sitting next to you on the sofa will be careful with darkness and alcohol now. If this electrical system breaks down I will still continue using it as my best guitar but if the amplification system is important for you then I am someone who has been sent two non working guitars out of four . Also , I can’t help but wonder at the longevity of the electrical system and that must apply to Lava 3 and Lava Pro. Suggest if you buy to get extended warranty . A great guitar but with problems.
Later edit on 28 August 2023. Still loving this guitar despite 50% of my 4 with no freeboost working . So raising from 2 to 4 starsSadly am now on my fifth as headstock came off when I banged it against a wall was quite a bang , am rather accident prone but a wooden guitar would not have disintegrated so although carbon fibre strong it’s structural integrity is precarious. be more sensible than me.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersI do a lot of outdoor guitar playing and every wood guitar I own has cracks. This guitar has great action and sounds great unplugged (as well as plugged in). Didn’t really need the fancy built-in electronics w/reverb & chorus. A pick-up and volume would’ve sufficed and been cheaper and lighter – it’s heavier than it should be. Depending on the weather and the strings, I have to check the intonation between songs. The gigbag is a bit much, too. Don’t like the handle or the stiff shoulder strap, or the lack of space inside for spare strings, a tuner or a capo. It’s too fitted. But I’m 90% happy with the guitar, the feel and the sound.

Great guitar. I’ve been playing guitar 37 years and have a Gibson Les Paul, Fender Strat, Gretsch, Jackson soloist and a couple of others and this fits in well with the above.
Reverb is superb. Delay not too overpowering and fades nicely. Chorus gives great feel to the sound. A great buy. Only negative for me is the look of the headstock. Gives the look of a child’s guitar which is a real shame. But put that aside, a very very good guitar. All internation is spot on. Louder than your normal acoustic but not much louder.

Golden Review Award: 3 From Our UsersWhat a fun guitar this is. The built in sound effect electronics work well without being over the top – just giving that nice edge to the quality of sound the guitar emits. It’s unusual enough to become a talking point in company and so I’m still quite delighted with the instrument several weeks after puchase. The quality of the build is excellent and the case is also a nice piece of kit. Thanks for reigniting my enthusiasm for playing!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersMy daughter loves her lava guitar. Sounds brilliant with or without the useful built-in effects. Being carbon fibre it is sturdy and not worried about changes in temperature or humidity. This is more useful than you may immediately think. Her existing tanglewood guitar (which as served her well) started to split and her teacher said it is because of our underfloor heating drying it out as she had been using a floor stand to prop it up when not in use. I did install a wall hook for it after that but it was a bit late…..anyway she should have no such problems with Lava. It also comes with really sturdy but light case you can wear on your back like a ruck sack. We did have a minor problem with a clip breaking but we contacted Amazon who helped us contact Lava Music and they sorted us out with a new case really quickly. Great support from both companies and friendly people. Lava kept in touch right until the replacement case arrived to make sure everything ok. Couldn’t be happier with it so far. Watch the review of the lava me 2 by Mary Spender on YouTube. She will tell you all you need to make a decision.

Bought this as a present for my husband – a bit of a risk as he has several great guitars already (Martin, Taylor, Yamaha) but it looked good for taking in our Motorhome when we go travelling. He is very impressed with it to the extent that he is currently playing it more than any of his other guitars. The electronics work really well too. Definitely one of his more successful presents!

Golden Review Award: 5 From Our UsersI really enjoyed the guitar in the couple of hours i just played with it already. The sound is balanced , the strings and action or what it’s called felt very easy to play , no strings buzzing .. It was simply a well configured guitar out of the box … Only tuning was required and you’re good to go… Tuning was accurate for the whole fretboard for what i saw .

I’m not a professional or anything , but my other expensive guitar is like 2000miles away , so i decided to try this one … I’m pleasantly surprised.

The effects are nice to have , however while unplugged , compared to youtube reviews the volume on effects is rather low , maybe TOO LOW…(EDIT: That was just me playing with my fingers, not even fingernails… Effects are pretty full of volume when picking) I can barely hear the reverb on its own , same with delay on its own.. Chorus + reverb does provide a substantial difference while unplugged so that’s something …
The volume knob also seems to not be perfectly parallel to the instrument so that when you rotate it it kind of wobbles a bit, although still firm , i don’t think it’s gonna fall off or anything …

OVERALL , the guitar build and sound seems excellent , i cannot test the effects plugged in , but unplugged it was just an ok experience . Lastly, the package provides a carry case that is decent, but no pockets on it. If you’re gonna stick a pick holder on the guitar you ll have to put it inside the soundhole because there is no space behind the head of the guitar at the tuners. It is very portable, just what i needed …

It did have some amount of dust , or what looked/felt like dust on the guitar body when i first handled it , but the packaging seemed robust and closed, maybe from the factory? It didn’t look like a repackaged product but i ll never know .

I would rate it 4.5 Stars , it shines on the important bits.

Golden Review Award: 8 From Our UsersIm a casual guitar player, the YouTube self-taught kind, haven’t been playing for long but wanted to upgrade from the cheap beginner guitar that I outgrew. First impressions, the guitar is really well built and looks amazing in white. It is a little on the heavier side given it’s suppose to be a travel guitar. The weight does give you some sense of reassurance as it feels premium whilst holding it.

The sound of the guitar without the effects already makes it worth buying. The effects are definitely a huge bonus.

Carrying case came with the guitar and I was pleasantly surprised how good the build quality of this case. Top marks for that.

In terms of durability/reliability, I’ve had no issues after a month. If there’s anything I’ll be sure to update.

All in all, really happy with the purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great guitar - looks good in white

Had my eye on this for a while. So glad I pushed the button. The sound from the small body is amazing warm yet punchy lows. And quite loud. The case is stunning semi hard case. And the freeboost pick up is just a revolution for acoustic playing. Does it replace a peddle board? No. Does it give you versatility on the fly hassle free. Yes! The ergonomic neck is great. I couldn’t be happier.

Golden Review Award: 13 From Our UsersThere are a lot of good aspects of this guitar. It has a nice, rich sound and I find it comfortable to play. As you would expect from a guitar of this calibre, it stays in tune and the 12th fret harmonics are precise. And precision is definitely the name of the game with this guitar.

I have owned this guitar for a month now and almost always play with the effects turned on. I’ve never really warmed to echo on any guitar but the reverb/chorus combination sounds great. The electronics seem to be very good. When I plug the guitar into an amp, it sounds very good as it does when played without the effects so you wouldn’t need to worry much if the battery went flat because it has good volume when played acoustically.

There are three silver dial controls on the guitar which are generally good although one is a bit stiff at about 50%. The volume control is also the on/off switch. I charged the guitar on the day I received it. It was partially charged but took a few more hours to get to full charge. Although I play this guitar every day I haven’t had to recharge it yet.

The guitar is very light. It has a nice look to it. My one dislike of its shape is that it slides off your lap very easily as you play. After a couple of emails to Lava Music they sent me a small grip to stick to the bottom of the guitar to stop it sliding. I don’t know why they don’t include one of these as standard in the case when you buy it.

Some may find the thin neck makes it a bit tricky to play although I have no complaints about it.

The Lava Me website is a bit limited and has only a few accessories for sale.

The case it comes with is nice but has no room in it for anything but the guitar. A bit more space for accessories would be helpful.

All in all this is well worth the money. It is very stylish with a nice build quality and a great sound.

I am glad I bought a Lava Me 2 guitar.

Golden Review Award: 20 From Our UsersHeard a lot of hype about this brand and have been considering a purchase for some time but wasn’t sure about spending the money having not played any carbon fibre guitars before. Having watched lots of online reviews and YouTube videos etc. by some reliable sources, then gone for it, I’m SO glad I did!

Delivery was really quick and the communication was great, the packaging is great too as you get lots of bits thrown in like a pick set and usb charging cable for the on board preamp so it’s like buying a new iPhone when it comes!

I’d definitely advise going for this model with the built in effects too even though it’s the most expensive.
The effects work great and it’s got a good tone for a travel sized guitar too! The delay, reverb and chorus do make a difference so I’m really impressed!
It’s bright but without losing the bottom end, which I was worried about and as a former touring guitarist, the sound was important to me. For this reason I’ve also spent ages playing around with the effects trying to get as many variations of sound as possible (i’m one of those!) and I’m loving how versatile it is!

It’s well made too which is great, very lightweight and easy to play so I’m confident I could take it on holiday with me if needed. Really happy with this guitar! I’d certainly class it as good value as you’d pay the same or more for something with far less to offer from another brand.

5.0 out of 5 stars LAVA ME 2 - Amazing tone and incredible built in effects!!
