What more to say than it’s a classic Mario game. My son wanted it because of the Mario movie and now donkey king being his favourite. He likes it and he’s 9.
I’ve played this game, and it feels great to play as Mario, each level is a puzzle, to solve, on how to rescue the mini Mario’s, before fighting Donkey Kong.
I must confess to missing the original Mario v Donkey Kong on the GBA back in 2004 and it wasn’t until I completed this particular Switch release that I became aware that it was actually a remake.
Not that, had I been aware of that fact, I would have been any of the wiser. In terms of both presentation and gameplay it is as fresh and engaging as the vibrant red, yellow and blue palate that pervades every level.
As part of the game’s core puzzle mechanic, those assorted colours bring to mind a Rubik’s cube at first impression. In truth, however, the vast majority of levels rarely present much of a head scratcher. This isn’t so much a criticism as an acknowledgment of the target audience. Plus the post-game “expert” content presents a welcome challenge for the more hardcore platformer and puzzle connoisseur (if only there was just a smidgeon more of it).
Ultimately Mario v Donkey Kong is a delightful throwback to the original Donkey Kong arcade game and a throughly entertaining side adventure. If you are looking for a relaxing, low intensity gameplay session or something to enjoy with the kids then you can’t go wrong with this one.
I am old enough to remember the first NES version of Donkey Kong and loved it. This is for sure a great game and entertaining enough to keep me outa of trouble for a hour or so. Not overly hard but definitely fun.
As a lifelong fan of Nintendo classics, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Mario vs Donkey Kong for the Nintendo Switch, and it did not disappoint. This nostalgic gem brings back fond memories while introducing exciting new gameplay elements. The vibrant graphics and charming soundtrack immerse players in the timeless battle between Mario and Donkey Kong. With challenging puzzles, creative level design, and endless replay value, this game is a must-have for any Switch owner. Mario vs Donkey Kong is a delightful addition to the Nintendo Switch library, offering hours of fun for gamers of all ages.
My Mario daft 5 year old wasked for this for his birthday.
First and foremost it is great fun and looks fantastic. As you progress through the game the levels do become trickier and the wee fella got a little frustrated. It is a little different from other Mario games, being solely about problem solving.
Fortunately it is a 2 player so I can assist with the problem solving aspect.
Wow amazing game – I just finished the game and was going to write : only 8 worlds, it’s so quick to complete, need more levels BUT once you complete everything they give you the same again but different with added cuteness – I won’t spoil it but I was surprised in a good way – very enjoyable for young and older kids too Now I’m away to keep playing the extra + levels !
