I bought this for my son…. and now have gotten it for 4 of his friends for their birthdays since that is the only toy they want to play with while they are here. It has taken some abuse but still holding strong.
I cannot overstate the value of this toy. It was a very near thing, getting this a year ago, because mechanical parts mean weak points, and my kid can destroy a KONG toy in a week.
But dangit, it was just TOO cool not to get.
Let me be clear, that was no exaggeration. My child, now 8, can literally destroy an indestructible large-dog toy in 7 days or less. Minecraft is their special interest, and they lost their mind when they unwrapped this present for Christmas last year. We didn’t even get through the other presents; they were dressed and outside mining first the snow, then the ice, and then transforming it into a sword to murder snowmen. Er, snow golems. And – IT – HELD – UP.
They lost it in the snow two weeks later and we found it a month after that. It held up. They sword fought with sticks and steel poles, pretended to mine dirt (read this as actually kinda trying to but being mostly gentle so we wouldn’t know) and dug in the neighbor’s sand. It held up. It’s been thrown across the driveway, dropped into a bath, unquestionably chewed on, and it held up.
This toy is beat to hell. It has dozens of scratches per square inch, and the foam is cracked *JUST CRACKED!* where they whack with it the most. It takes a little more effort to lock into place, but it continues to transform fantastically, and it’s probably still their favorite toy. I think I bought this for about $30 last year, but knowing what I do now, I would recommend it at 50, because it’ll outlast anything else you get and it’ll bring a lot more enjoyment.
You should know however, that while this foam will help prevent a tooth getting knocked out, it’s a stiff foam, and it’ll still hurt of someone tries to take of a limb with it. The sword would hold fine in a battle against itself, but I’d hate to be the fingers holding it or the face catching it. Recommended for everything except direct sibling fights unless they’re pretty tough kids.
This pickaxe/sword is more durable and more valuable to my kid than the diamonds it’s fictitiously (unless??) made of.
I have not been paid to tell you about this thing, it’s simply my duty as a parent to see that other parents get this toy if their kid would want it, because it’s fantastic.
That said, if whatever company makes these wanted to, ahem, send my their thanks, I suspect this won’t make it a second year under the incredible duress my child puts it through.
…
Wink.
…
I’m winking at you, company.
I respect this sword. And pickaxe. Both. Both are good.
My 7 year old grandson had told me he wanted a transforming sword, so I automatically looked on Amazon, there it was! An Amazon exclusive and what an exclusive it is. It is a good sized sword, made of a durable plastic and quite a good looking sword/pickaxe. The way that it transforms is quite unique and very easy to operate. I had fun playing with it myself before I gave it to him. There were other features that I did not notice, but my grandson did and it was so cute to have him explain it to me. He showed me what it did to transform, then he pointed out something important for parents to know. The sword and pickaxe have protective foam on the impact areas, so when you hit something, the foam touches the surface and dulls the impact. This is a great feature, if the foam was not on impact areas, damage would most likely occur or injury. Because this sword is plastic and not all foam like the cheaper version that does not transform, I had a talk with my grandson about these two things; 1) We do NOT hit baby brother with it, no matter what he might be doing. 2) We do NOT hit furniture or walls. I told him he should not even be swinging it around inside, that is how accidents happen. His mother is notorious for taking his toys away for the least little infraction and he does not get all of them back. She goes through them and donates or sells on marketplace, so I told him if he wanted to keep his sword he needs to really pay attention to what he is doing with it. I told him the outdoors was where you could swing and do more fun things than inside. He is so thrilled with his sword that the 26.99 I paid for it was worth just the look on his face. Such joy and excitement. He took it in the living room to show his Dad, my son, and his Dad said, ‘Whoa, that’s a nice transforming sword, lil buddy. It looks just like the one on your Minecraft game’. It does. This sword is worth every penny of the 26.99. I would recommend without being asked. Once again, Amazon had exactly what I was looking for. They always have came through for me, and this time was no exception. As a last note, it was quite cold last night and dark. My grandson asked his mom if he could go outside so he could swing his sword around. He listened to me! Amazing for a 7 yr. old boy. Hopefully he will continue to remember the talk I had with him. If your child wants a transforming sword, this is the one to buy.
Super Spielzeug, war ein Geschenk zum 9. Geburtstag unseres Sohnes. Def. Kaufempfehlung!
My kids love it! Definitely worth the money.
Just stay out of the way when they start swinging because getting a whack on the head with it isn’t a fun experience, lol
Very sturdy and hard wearing. My son loves this toy it takes a bit of power to convert which has loosened up over time. Would deffo recomend for any minecraft fa
My 6 year old son and his friends have been very impressed with this toy. It changes from an axe to a sword very easily. It is well made and will not break in a hurry. It’s a bit heavy though that’s because it has a lot of plastic parts and very solidly built. I would recommend
Slightly on the expensive side for a simple toy but I have been informed that it is his favourite present for his 6th birthday and he’s been mining and fighting for 3 days straight since he got it. Proudly showing it to anybody who happens to be by.
My 9 year old son is still delighted with this toy and loves showing it to his friends who also love Minecraft. It’s good quality and hasn’t broken yet despite him being heavy handed with toys.
Mejor de lo que esperaba. Es de pasta dura, justo lo que quera ya que le va a durar ms que la de goma eva que he visto q se vende. Aunque considero que el precio es algo elevado
Still a favourite toy. Very durable and works well. I understand this is a bit of a collector’s item for Minecraft fans. Since I bought it, it has been brandished and played with quite a lot. The mechanism inside with converts it from axe to sword is quite durable.
mide unos 60-70 cm. es de plstico duro, y pesa. el sistema para pasar de pico a martillo est muy bien. a los nios les encant, pero hay que tener cuidado porque si golpean con l se pueden hacer dao.
