I didn’t realize I had to buy another proprietary NEEWER part just to be able to get this work. It does work great though and then if you’re on a set you don’t have to worry about battery power. You just have to worry about the memory card because you will be able to record foreve

I just recently got a HDMI capture card, so wanted to use my Nikon Z50 as a webcam instead so that I can take advantage of the nicer lenses for a shallower depth of field. However, just running on batteries alone does drain it quite quickly, so I decided to try this ‘dummy battery’. Nice! It works! Now I don’t have to worry about the battery running out as I do my recordings (and video conferences). Using the camera definitely gets you better visual quality!

So I’ve been looking into using my Z50 as a webcam. Since the Z50 does not run continuously through usb, I had to find a different way to make it work without having to worry about the battery dying. This dummy battery is the perfect solution for me! Although I do have one issue. I don’t have any V-lock products so at the moment I am unable to get it to work. Will likely purchase a v-lock battery or wall adapter. Overall, the product quality is great and I trust Neewer to deliver a solid product. Would definitely recommend to anyone with a Z50, Z30, or ZFc!

Neewer has a well-earned reputation for making quality accessories for photographers and videographers, and the new D Tap to EN-EL25 Dummy Battery with Cable, for the Nikon Z30, Z50, and Zfc, is another valuable accessory for anyone looking for a continuous power supply for their camera.

With a D Tap cable connector, the dummy battery works with the Neewer PS099E, BP-95W, BP-150WS, BP-190WS, BP-V47 V mount batteries, and is also compatible with the SmallRig V mount battery series, and the Sony BP-U65, BP-U68, BP-U100, and BP-U90 V mount. This cable does not have a standard USB connection and will not connect to devices like a computer, laptop computer, or a standard USB power pack.

Providing stable continuous power is vital to content creators, and the Neewer dummy battery has an intelligent chip, which guarantees a constant and stable power supply for your creation to provide extended power for outdoor photography, live streaming, video conferencing, vlogging, and filmmaking. And, since it is fully decoded, you should not see any pop-up alerts when using for an extended period of time.

    Recommended!

A wise person once said ‘you can’t have too many cameras batteries on hand’. Actually, I said that. I love cameras and have a bunch of them. That requires a bunch of cameras batteries. Or an accessory like this. Put one end into a V-mount battery, the other end in the battery compartment of your Z-30 and you’re all set to shoot for as long as you want. NEEWER products are invariably excellent and this one is no different. Highly recommended!

My Z50 is more of a B or C cam vs. my bigger Z bodies, but I really wanted to power it externally; the EL25’s just don’t last long for 4K video. I wanted V-mount vs. USB or Sony F, but those have been pricey adapters. This Neewer adapter is a reasonable price, it powers right up with no errors (I’ve bought V-mount cables for Z6/etc that won’t actually power the camera), and the cable is reasonably long. Seems as sturdily built as any other v-mount dummy battery I own, and Neewer’s become a fairly respected brand.

Note that with the Z50, there’s a tiny little flap on the battery door, which can be flipped open to allow a cable to come through the door yet keep the door closed (other Z bodies may use a rubber plug on the camera body vs. the door). The Neewer dummy battery has “tracks” on the bottom to direct the cable in multiple directions, and they’re properly aligned so you can close the battery door on the Z50. My battery door closes firmly with the adapter installed, and the cable doesn’t seem pinched.

As far as run time goes, that will depend on your v-mount, but I’d expect 6-8 hours with a 98, more if you go bigger. All in all, a great value and great solution if you’re using v-mounts and don’t want to add another battery solution to your kit. Keep in mind you may need some sort of v-mount clamp or plate to hold the big batteries on a tripod or gimbal – Neewer sells one and there are many available.
